Rapier of Devastation is a Rare / Epic rapier-class melee weapon in Windrose. Plague wood winds its thin shoots around rough metal. The branches seem almost alive, waiting for a chance to sink into the enemy's flesh.
Rapiers are one-handed Pierce weapons that scale with Precision, making them the default melee pick for Precision-oriented builds. They pair naturally with an off-hand Pistol for a Precision dual-threat loadout.

Rare and Epic variants share a base effect. Ascending the Rare to Epic at the Weaponsmith Workshop preserves the Rare effect and stacks an additional bonus on top.
Tier | Effect |

Rare | Light Attacks apply up to 8 Plague marks. Heavy Attacks consume all accumulated marks, dealing bonus Damage for each. |
Epic (adds) | If a Heavy Attack consumes more than 5 marks, you restore 40% of your Maximum Health. |
Craft at the Weaponsmith Workshop (Level 1). Base recipe: Copper Ingot x7, Rough Hide x2, Ingot Arborum x5.
Ascending the Rare variant at the Weaponsmith Workshop converts it into the Epic variant and unlocks the Epic bonus line. Ingredients: Rapier of Devastation x1, Tumbaga Ingot x7. The ascension consumes the Rare weapon. See Tumbaga Ingot for sourcing notes and Upgrade System for the full ascension mechanic.
Dropped from Crypt and Gardenruin chests in plague-themed regions.
Ties into the Plague Halberd and Arboris Saber loot pool.

A combo-centric duelist rapier. Build 8 marks with a five-hit light combo, then land the heavy for a burst window that also returns 40% Max HP at Epic.
Thrust-first patterns punish over-commits more than sweeping slashes. Keep the distance short but not point-blank so light attacks can feed stacks or marks before committing to a heavy.
Precision-scaling weapons pull from the Marksman branch of the Talent System. Relevant picks include talents that boost Pierce damage, Critical Damage, Bleed damage, and Temporal Health conversion. Precision rapier builds also benefit from pistol-synergy talents, since the typical rapier loadout uses a Pistol off-hand.
See the Talent System article for the current list of unlockable talents and their exact bonus values. Respeccing talents costs an in-game currency, so early-game branch commitments tend to lock in weapon pairings for the rest of the playthrough.
Rapier of Devastation sits alongside 3 other rapiers on the current live index. Consider the alternatives:
Rapier: Uncommon, 205 Pierce, Precision (B). no special effect
Rapier of a Thousand Cuts: Rare / Epic, 125 Pierce, Precision (C at Rare, B at Epic). Dealing Damage applies Bleeding. Stacks up to 5 times. Each stack deals 25 Damage per second.
Sturdy Rapier: Rare / Epic, 215 Pierce, Precision (A at Rare, S at Epic). Increases the Perfect Block opportunity window.

The Rapier of Devastation's signature loop revolves around Plague Marks, a stacking debuff applied to enemies. Each connecting light attack pins one mark on the target up to a maximum of 8 stacks. A heavy attack then consumes every stack at once, and the rapier delivers a follow-up burst of bonus damage scaled to how many marks were spent. Eight is the ceiling for the burst, so the most efficient rotation is five to eight light hits into one committed heavy.
Two details separate this rapier from the heavier plague weapons. First, the bonus damage from consuming marks can critically strike, which is the opposite behavior of the two-handed Plague Halberd's special. Crit chance and crit damage modifiers therefore multiply directly into the burst, and stacking those stats produces vastly more output than raw weapon damage rolls would suggest. Second, when a heavy consumes 5 or more marks at once, the wielder restores 40% of maximum health on the same swing. The healing turns the weapon into its own sustain engine for boss fights and crowded boarding decks, removing the need to bandage between phases.
Double-stab tech: there is a hidden chain that doubles up the consumption. Stacking marks to capacity, then immediately tapping a heavy stab using the special-attack input (middle mouse button on the default keyboard layout, or the equivalent button on a controller) chains a second consumption hit back-to-back from the same stack. In practice, eight stacks consumed twice in a single window is enough to delete most non-boss elites, and on a boss it can phase the encounter in two combos. The technique is finicky on moving targets because the second hit needs perfect tracking, so it shines most against locked-down or telegraphing bosses.
One trade-off worth knowing before committing to this style: every burst hit relies on a clean line through the target. Open-world packs where enemies fan out around the player tend to waste swings, so this build feels strongest in single-target boss fights and tight ship boarding lanes rather than as a crowd-control answer.
The full boss-killer loadout fuses the rapier's crit-able burst with the gear, talents, and stats that all reinforce critical strike damage. Pair every piece below for an end-game build that targets the High Priestess and other late-game threats. Confirmed in-region testing in the Cursed Swamps and against the High Priestess puts a fully-buffed eight-stack consumption around the 8.5K crit range, which is enough to phase the fight in two combos.
Slot | Choice |
|---|---|
Main Hand | Rapier of Devastation (Epic ascended) |
Off Hand | Drake's Double-Barreled Pistol (Epic ascended) |
Armor Set | Full Privateer Set (5-piece, crit chance + scaling crit damage) |
Ring | Major Cutthroat Ring (+30% critical strike damage) |
Necklace | Necklace of Mastery (more crit chance via Mastery) |
Stat Distribution | 15 Precision + 5 Vitality + 5 Endurance, or 13 Precision + 7 Mastery for higher crit chance ceiling |
Talent: Precision Crit | Surgical Cuts (crit chance with one-handed melee) |
Talent: One-Handed Damage | |
Talent: Boss Damage | Duelist (single-target bonus, ideal for boss fights) |
Talent: Combo | Deadly Finale (consecutive-hit damage stacking) |
Food (Minor) | Tangy Nut Roll (+5 Precision) |
Food (Major) | Banana Muffin (+10 Precision) |
Elixir | Elixir of Critical Strike Damage |
Every choice on the table compounds the same axis. The Privateer Set provides flat crit chance plus a scaling crit damage bonus that climbs with each enemy in close range, capping at +30% additional crit damage. The Major Cutthroat Ring stacks another flat +30% crit damage on top of that. Slash-damage rings remain a viable swap for the ring slot because the consumption damage counts as true bonus damage rather than the rapier's base Pierce, but the crit damage roll is generally the better contribution when crit chance is already high.
On the talent side, Surgical Cuts raises one-handed crit chance to bring more bursts into the crit window, Quick Strikes boosts the one-handed damage backbone, Duelist applies the single-target bonus that boss encounters tend to satisfy, and Deadly Finale rewards the rapid five-to-eight light combos that feed marks. Stat priority leans Precision (for raw scaling) with a secondary investment in Mastery (for the crit chance ceiling); the 15 Precision distribution maximizes hit damage while the 13/7 split favors players already comfortable landing crits at full stacks.
Pair-up matters. Leading with Drake's Double-Barreled Pistol tags the boss with the +15% damage-taken debuff, and the consumption window then lands inside that vulnerability multiplier. Open with two pistol shots, swap to the rapier, build to eight marks across a light chain, then chain a heavy and the special-attack stab to fire the consumption twice. Top off Precision before the fight with Tangy Nut Roll and Banana Muffin, and drink an Elixir of Critical Strike Damage to push the crit damage line over the top.
