Overview
Pistol is a Uncommon pistol-class ranged weapon in Windrose. What's better than one shot? Two shots! It fires gentle, with hardly any kick. Just make sure you reload in time.
Pistols are one-handed sidearm firearms that scale with Precision and occupy the off-hand slot alongside a melee weapon. See Pistols for ammunition capacity and the full class profile.

Crafting
Craft at the Weaponsmith Workshop (Level 1). Base recipe: Wood x10, Copper Ingot x5.
Upgrade Bands
Pistol uses the Pistol upgrade bands: 5 bands from Lvl 2 to Lvl 15 with Copper Ingot x5 at the base, scaling through Foothills Iron Ingot and Mire Metal Ingot; Master's Tools is required from Lvl 7 upward.
Item-level upgrades for Pistol are performed at the Weaponsmith Workshop and follow the same per-band pattern documented for every weapon. See Weapon Upgrade Bands for the full per-band material costs.
How to Obtain
Crafted at the Weaponsmith Workshop once the Plans: Pistol recipe unlocks.
Also drops from the same pirate and Old World chest pool as the Musket and Blunderbuss.

Tactical Usage
The Uncommon baseline sidearm. Replaces the Worn-Out Pistol starter. Pairs well with any one-handed melee weapon for hybrid Precision builds until a Rare Reliable Pistol or Drake's Double-Barreled Pistol is available.
Keep a one-handed melee weapon in the main-hand to double the ranged loadout's options. Pistols reward quick pre-combat volleys before the fight closes to melee range. Reload management matters: without Gunpowder stockpiled, pistol shots dry up fast. Stock at least 30 bullets before a boss engagement.
Talent Synergies
Precision-scaling weapons pull from the Marksman branch of the Talent System. Relevant picks include talents that boost Pierce damage, Critical Damage, stand-still bonuses that extend the Buccaneer's Friend spread perk, and gunpowder efficiency. Precision firearms reward investment in talents that increase rifle-style precision at range.
See the Talent System article for the current list of unlockable talents and their exact bonus values. Every firearm consumes Gunpowder, so stockpiling Sulfur and Charcoal for the Workbench conversion remains a background chore for any ranged build.
Comparison Within Class
Pistol sits alongside 4 other pistols on the current live index. Consider the alternatives:
Reliable Pistol: Rare / Epic, 380 Pierce, Precision (S). Can fire 3 shots without reloading.
Plague Pistol: Epic, 400 Pierce, Precision (B). Restores 40% of dealt Damage as Health.
Drake's Double-Barreled Pistol: Rare / Epic, 420 Pierce, Precision (B). Can fire two quick shots in succession.
Worn-Out Pistol: Common, 300 Pierce, Precision (C). no special effect

Hotbar Passive Reload
Pistols reload differently from muskets and blunderbusses, and the difference is often what decides a close fight. A pistol kept in the hotbar reloads passively even while you are slashing with a melee weapon; it does not need to be the currently-equipped item. Muskets and blunderbusses, by contrast, only reload passively while they are the weapon in hand. This is why a pistol and a one-handed melee weapon work so well together as a loadout: you fire, swap to the sword, keep attacking, and the pistol quietly refills a round or two in the background.
Active vs. passive reload. A manual reload key press triggers an active reload and puts the pistol back into a ready state as fast as the animation allows. Passive reload is the slower background refill that happens while the weapon sits in the hotbar. Most of the time, you never need to press reload actively because the passive timer completes before you want to fire again. The only reason to active-reload a pistol is when the fight pace demands a second shot before the passive timer is done.
Timing the swap. Because the passive timer is always ticking, it is possible to swap back to the pistol too early and find it still empty. The timer is visible on the weapon icon in the hotbar, so keep half an eye on the slot. A rapier or saber in the main hand makes the window easier to see because both have short swing cycles that leave frequent chances to glance at the icon between combos.
Why this matters for stat priority. Hotbar-passive reload is the core reason the Precision pistol plus Rapier or pistol plus Cutlass kit is so strong. The shared Precision scaling on pistol and rapier means one stat line powers both weapons, and the passive reload means the pistol acts as a free damage booster layered on top of melee swings rather than a gun that competes with them for time.
