Crocodile Hide Piece is a mid-tier crafting material in Windrose, distinct from Rough Hide. It drops from Plague Crocodiles in the Cursed Swamps biome and is required for several weapon and backpack upgrade recipes.

Crocodile Hide Pieces appear in weapon recipes that combine Mire Metal Ingot with Undead Essence at the Weaponsmith Workshop. They are also a key mid-game Backpack Progression material: the Quartermaster Backpack upgrade uses 5 Crocodile Hide Pieces on top of the previous-tier backpack.
Crocodile Hide Pieces sit at the point where a player is transitioning from Foothills-tier crafting into Cursed Swamps content. Players who try to craft the upper mid-game weapons or push past the Bosun Backpack run straight into this gate. The practical response is to clear one or two Plague Crocodile encounters on each Cursed Swamps excursion and stockpile the pieces for later bench sessions rather than single-purpose farming.
Plague Crocodiles hit harder and apply stacking Plague effects. Bring Healing Potions and consider the Flibustier's Attire 2-piece stamina reduction for the fight
Drops appear to come in small batches, typically 1 to 3 hide pieces per kill. A 30-minute Cursed Swamps run usually covers a single backpack tier upgrade and one weapon recipe, not both
Store hide pieces in a dedicated chest next to the Weaponsmith Workshop; bench crafting moves faster when the hide pieces, Mire Metal Ingots, and Undead Essence are all co-located

Plague Crocodile, most consistent source
Cursed Swamps, the biome where Plague Crocodiles spawn
Quartermaster Backpack, backpack tier that requires 5 hide pieces
Rough Hide, the lower-tier hide alternative
Weaponsmith Workshop, where Crocodile Hide Piece recipes are crafted
Beyond the Quartermaster Backpack path, Crocodile Hide Piece also feeds into base-building and armor workshops. Stockpiling a moderate surplus means a single Cursed Swamps run can advance several crafts in parallel rather than a single bench at a time.

Access to the Cursed Swamps opens after completing the second biome's boss encounter, so Crocodile Hide Piece farming is not available from a fresh character. Within the swamps, crocodile spawns cluster in shallow water pockets and frequently appear in groups rather than singly. Pulling one at a time is unreliable in these zones, so most players plan around engaging packs rather than trying to isolate targets.
Ranged weapons are the preferred tool against crocodiles. Their melee attacks have a deceptively long reach, and trading hits at close range burns through healing supplies faster than chipping them down with bow or firearm fire from outside their engagement radius.
