Crabs are level 1 to 3 hostile wildlife in Windrose, found on Coastal Jungle beaches and inside coastal caves. They are weak individually but often spawn in clusters, making them a moderate threat to underequipped early-game players. Crabs drop Crab Meat (a cooking ingredient for the Crab Soup and Seafood Skewer recipes) and Crab Shell (a crafting material).

Crab Shell Drop Notes
Only the small daytime beach crabs that scuttle along the shoreline drop Crab Shell, and they do so at roughly a 5% chance per kill, so collecting Crab Shell is a grind of clearing many ordinary crabs rather than a guaranteed reward. The larger crab-shaped creatures that appear at night still yield Crab Meat but do not drop Crab Shell, so plan shell-farming runs during the day. Crab Shell counts as a discovery item, meaning your first one also unlocks its related recipes.
Where to Find Crabs
Coastal Jungle beaches (most common; clusters of 2 to 4 crabs)
Coastal caves and copper mines (encounter while gathering resources)
Tidal pools and rocky shorelines on most Coastal Jungle islands
Inside Copper Caves and the Jungle Cave, where they ambush players who are gathering Copper Ore.
Hunting Strategy
Use AoE attacks (greatsword sweeps, halberd swings) to clear clusters efficiently
If overwhelmed, retreat to high ground; crabs cannot follow onto elevated terrain
Crabs respawn relatively quickly compared to Boars; coastal areas refill within an in-game day or two
Stockpile Crab Meat for the Crab Soup recipe; it is a useful early-game food buff source
Trophy Crab
Crab Shell and Crab Meat are the inputs for the Trophy Crab, a base decoration. The recipe takes 1 Crab Shell, 2 Crab Meat, and 5 Wood. Once placed, the trophy grants a Comfort bonus that extends the duration of your rested buff, which makes the otherwise modest Crab Shell drop worth banking.
Trophy | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|
1 Crab Shell, 2 Crab Meat, 5 Wood | Comfort bonus that lengthens the rested buff |
