Fertilizer is a farming aid. Applying compost to crops planted in a Seedbed for Plants speeds their growth, so a steady supply of Basic Composter keeps a settlement's Farming and Fishing operation turning over faster. Because the bin turns low-value foraged plants into something useful, it is an easy way to clear inventory clutter while supporting your farm.

How to Obtain

Basic Composter is a crafted Fertilizer. It is produced from organic matter at a compost bin, not gathered in the wild. Drop spare crops or foraged plants into the bin together with Plant Fiber and it breaks them down into a nutrient-rich compost. Each of the three recipe variants below uses a different organic input, so you can craft it from whatever surplus you happen to have on hand.

Recipe Inputs

All three variants share the same Plant Fiber cost and the same 90 second craft time. They differ only in the crop you feed the bin, so use whichever input you have the most of:

Tips

• Weight 0.5 per unit; factor it into inventory capacity when gathering.

• Grow your own input cheaply: a Shrub grove supplies renewable Plant Fiber, while crop saplings supply the Corn or peppers, so the whole recipe can be farmed on site.

• Craft in batches before a planting session so the compost is ready when your seedbeds are, rather than waiting on the 90 second timer mid-task.
