Overview
There is no dedicated interior design career path in inZOI as of the current Early Access version. Unlike some life simulation games that include professional decorator or designer career tracks, inZOI does not offer a job where Zois are hired to design or furnish other Zois' homes. However, the game provides extensive home design and decoration tools through Build Mode, and several existing skills and careers overlap with interior design activities.
This article covers the design tools, skills, and careers that relate to interior decoration in inZOI, along with potential future additions from the 2026 Roadmap.
Build Mode as a Design Tool
Build Mode serves as the primary interior design system in inZOI. It provides a comprehensive set of tools for creating and decorating residential and commercial spaces.

Tool | Description |
|---|---|
Furniture Placement | Dozens of categories including living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, outdoor, hobby, and more. Each piece can be positioned freely with rotation and height adjustment. See Furniture for the full catalog. |
Wall Customization | Eight material types with customizable colors and pattern options. See Walls, Windows, and Doors for full details. |
Floor and Ceiling Materials | Multiple texture options per room, allowing different flooring in each space. |
Lighting | Ceiling lights, floor lamps, wall sconces, and decorative lighting with adjustable brightness and color temperature. |
On-device generative AI system that creates custom patterns for walls, floors, and furniture from text prompts. | |
Object Customization | Color picker and material editor for recoloring and retexturing individual furniture pieces. |
Custom Furniture | Players can assemble pieces from multiple parts, selecting and combining table legs, tabletops, and decorative elements to create unique designs. See Housework skill for crafting details. |
Converts user-input images into in-game 3D objects, allowing truly unique decorative pieces. |
Players can design both residential homes and commercial business properties. Business interiors require specific display items and functional furniture (counters, display cases, menu boards) depending on the business type. The layout and aesthetic choices in a business can influence customer satisfaction and revenue.
Custom Furniture Crafting
One of the most design-relevant features in inZOI is the ability to craft custom furniture. The Housework skill unlocks furniture crafting at a Furniture Workbench, which can be purchased from the Build Mode furniture catalog.
At the workbench, Zois can create four types of custom furniture: tables, chairs, computers, and light sources. Each piece is assembled from preset in-game models, but the combination of parts and materials makes each creation unique. Crafting furniture also raises the Housework skill level. Higher levels unlock access to more complex designs and higher-quality materials.
Custom furniture can be placed in the Zoi's home, gifted to other Zois, or sold through the Pocket Market. This creates a possible gameplay loop where a design-focused Zoi crafts decorative pieces and sells them for income, functioning as an informal interior design business even without a formal career track.
Related Skills
While no "Interior Design" skill exists, several skills connect to home design and decoration activities.
Skill | Relevance to Design |
|---|---|
Includes cleaning, repairing broken objects, refurbishing old furniture, and crafting furniture from scratch at a Furniture Workbench. High levels unlock the ability to craft more complex custom furniture items. | |
Painting on easels produces artwork that can be hung on walls as decoration. Higher Art levels unlock new painting styles and larger canvas sizes. | |
Growing plants and creating bonsai for interior and exterior decoration. Bonsai can be displayed in the home or sold through the Pocket Market. | |
Crafting decorative items and jewelry at crafting tables. Refined gems and crafted objects can serve as interior decorations. | |
While not directly related to design, a well-equipped kitchen with quality appliances is a key part of home interior planning. |
A Zoi focused on interior design would benefit most from leveling Housework (for furniture crafting and repair), Art (for wall decorations), and Gardening (for indoor plants and bonsai). Together, these three skills cover furniture, art, and greenery, which are the three pillars of home decoration.
Related Careers
The closest existing career to interior design is the Furniture Store Employee position at Mackenzie Furniture in Bliss Bay. This is an active (on-site) career where the Zoi works in a furniture retail environment.
Position | Daily Wage (Meow) | Schedule |
|---|---|---|
Cashier | 360 | Tue/Thu/Fri, 9 AM to 6 PM |
Manager | 918 | Tue/Thu/Fri, 9 AM to 6 PM |
While working at a furniture store is not the same as being an interior designer, it is the only career that directly involves furniture and home goods. The Mackenzie Furniture lot is located in the center of Bliss Bay.
Additionally, the business ownership system introduced in v0.5.0 allows players to design and furnish commercial spaces as part of running their own establishments. Building and decorating a cafe, restaurant, bakery, or bar involves significant interior design decision-making, from layout planning to aesthetic choices that influence customer satisfaction. This is the closest the current game comes to making interior design a core gameplay activity with income attached.
Community Lot Editing
Some community lots in inZOI are marked as editable, allowing players to redesign public spaces. When visiting an editable lot, a Build Mode option appears that lets players add, remove, and rearrange furniture and equipment. This effectively lets players act as interior designers for shared community spaces like parks, gyms, and gathering areas.

Not all lots are editable. Residential lots owned by the player can always be modified, while community lots vary. Editable lots display an indicator next to their name on the map. The City Edit Mode feature also allows broader changes to the city layout, though it focuses more on lot placement than interior decoration.
Modding and Custom Content
The modding community has expanded the available furniture and decorative items beyond what ships with the base game. The official ModKit, released in mid-2025, supports importing custom furniture assets created in external 3D software. Mods are shared through CurseForge and can add entirely new furniture categories, wall decorations, and architectural elements.
The ModKit's planned updates include support for editing architectural elements (September 2025 update) and outfit/interaction scripts (December 2025 update). These expansions will give modders even more control over interior decoration options, effectively allowing the community to create the design tools and content that the base game's career system does not yet provide.
Potential Future Additions
The 2026 Roadmap introduces several features that could eventually support interior design gameplay:
Feature | Timeline | Relevance |
|---|---|---|
Q2 2026 | New freelance career paths including writing, game development, photography, and blogging. If the freelance system expands, it could potentially include design or decoration services. | |
Interior and exterior wall decoration modules | Q4 2026 | New decoration systems for walls that will expand the creative options available in Build Mode. |
European-style architecture | Q1 2026 | New architectural styles with matching furnishings provide more design variety. |
Hanok-style architecture | Q1 2026 | Traditional Korean architectural elements and furniture sets. |
Curved wall support | 2026 | Support for curved walls, windows, and pools, enabling more creative room shapes. |
No formal interior design career has been announced or confirmed for any roadmap quarter. Players who enjoy home design are encouraged to explore Build Mode's extensive toolset, participate in the modding community where custom furniture and decor items are shared, use the AI Texture generation system to create unique custom designs, and consider the business ownership system as a way to combine interior design with income generation.
Tips for Design-Focused Players
Level Housework early to unlock furniture crafting at the workbench. Crafted furniture can be sold through the Pocket Market for extra income.
Use the AI Texture system to create custom patterns for walls, floors, and furniture. This is one of the most powerful design tools in the game.
The 3D Printer can convert any uploaded image into an in-game 3D object. Use this for custom decorative pieces that do not exist in the furniture catalog.
Invest in Art skill to paint custom artwork for wall decoration. Higher levels unlock more painting styles.
Open a business (cafe, restaurant, bar) if you want to design a space that also generates income. Business interiors directly affect customer experience.
Check CurseForge for community mods that add new furniture, wall decorations, and architectural elements beyond the base game catalog.
When designing rooms, pay attention to the needs system. A well-designed home with quality furniture, good lighting, and plants can help keep Zois' moods positive.
