Standardized "Base Attack" → "Attack Power" in stat table

The Shackle of Might is a One-Handed Weapon (Sword) in Crimson Desert obtained by defeating Fortain, the Cursed Knight. With ATK 19, Critical Rate Lv.2, and three core slots, it is one of the strongest one-handed swords available in the mid-to-late game. One-handed weapons are characterized by their light weight and quick strikes, allowing Kliff to equip a Shield in the off-hand for a balanced offense-defense setup.

The Shackle of Might comes with three pre-assigned Abyss Core slots, which can be filled to further enhance the weapon's performance:
Slot | Core Type |
|---|---|
1 | Spirit's Judgment |
2 | Attack 1 |
3 |
The combination of Spirit's Judgment, Attack 1, and Critical Rate 1 slots makes this sword particularly well-suited for aggressive, damage-focused builds. Players can visit a witch to embed Abyss Cores into these slots or swap them freely from the inventory screen at no cost.
The Shackle of Might is dropped by Fortain, the Cursed Knight, a mandatory boss encountered during The Cursed Knight main quest (Mission 115) in Chapter 8: Blood Coronation, under the "To Demeniss" sub-chapter. Fortain is located at Thornbriar Fortress in the Hernand region. The quest becomes available after completing "Rebel Suppression."
Defeating Fortain also awards an Abyss Artifact. The Shackle of Might cannot be purchased from any merchant and cannot be crafted at a blacksmith; it is exclusively a boss drop.
Fortain is a challenging boss encounter. He is a gigantic warrior empowered by cursed warrior spirits, wielding a massive shield that reduces incoming damage until staggered. The arena also contains musket-wielding soldiers who fire large projectiles that stagger on hit.
Attack | Description | |
|---|---|---|
Frontal shield strike with knockdown chance | Dodge roll to the side | |
Spirit Slam | Spectral companion performs a ground slam (unblockable, high damage) | Dodge to the side; cannot be blocked |
Spirit Strafe | Spectral archer fires arrow volleys (unblockable) | Keep moving laterally to avoid projectiles |
Shield Charge | Forward rush with knockdown potential | Dodge perpendicular to his charge direction |
Three Slash Combo | Blockable sword combination | Parry the final hit for a counter window |
Aerial Strike | Boss leaps overhead and strikes from the sky | Take cover behind pillars in the arena |
Summon Warrior Spirits | Five-second summoning sequence creating two spectral beings | Use this window to deal heavy damage before spirits activate |
Use Force Palm to stagger Fortain and break through his shield defense, then follow up with heavy attack chains to maximize damage during the stagger window. Combining Force Palm with Skills like Nature's Echo (which duplicates heavy attacks) can significantly increase damage output.
The summoned spectral beings (one with an axe, one with a crossbow) cannot be killed. After each spirit performs 2 to 3 attacks, they temporarily dissipate. Focus on dodging their attacks rather than trying to engage them.
Consider clearing the musket soldiers at the edges of the arena first if possible, as their staggering shots can interrupt your combos and leave you vulnerable to Fortain's follow-up attacks.
Equip at least Tier 4 or 5 gear before attempting this fight.
Bring plenty of Recovery Items, particularly food-based healing like Chewy Rice Cakes and meat-based meals.
Carry a Palmar Pill for emergency revival if health drops to zero.
Visit an anvil and grindstone before the fight for temporary weapon and armor buffs that help offset Fortain's high damage output.
At ATK 19 with Critical Rate Lv.2, the Shackle of Might delivers strong sustained damage. The critical rate bonus increases the frequency of critical hits, which is especially powerful when combined with skills that scale off critical damage or trigger additional effects on crits.
The three core slots provide significantly more build flexibility than Weapons with only one or two slots. This allows players to stack offensive bonuses or mix in defensive/utility Abyss Cores depending on the encounter.
As a one-handed weapon, the Shackle of Might allows Kliff to equip a shield in the off-hand. This pairs well with mobility shields like the Rattan Shield or the Sydmon Kite Shield for an agile combat style that capitalizes on quick strikes and repositioning.
The sell price of 12.99 Silver Coins reflects the weapon's high value, but given the effort required to defeat Fortain, selling it is not recommended unless a clearly superior weapon is already equipped. Players should invest in Refinement to push its attack even higher, as each refinement level adds approximately 2 to 3 ATK points.
