Overview

The Red-Feathered Raptor is an exotic temporary mount in Crimson Desert. Classified as a Ground type mount, the Red-Feathered Raptor is a dinosaur-like predatory creature distinguished by its bright red plumage, sharp talons, and swift, aggressive movement style. Among the temporary mounts, raptors are widely considered the fastest ground-based option, making them highly sought after for hit-and-run traversal.
Raptors were prominently featured in pre-release trailers for Crimson Desert and remain one of the most visually striking creatures in the game. Like all Fleeting Companions, the Red-Feathered Raptor cannot be registered at a stable or summoned on demand. It must be obtained fresh each time the player wants to ride one.
Base Stats
At Level 1, the Red-Feathered Raptor has the following base stats:
Stat | Value |
|---|---|
400 | |
300 | |
Attack | 25 |
Evade | 50 |
1 | |
1 | |
Climb Speed Multiplier | 1 |
Swim Speed Multiplier | 1 |
Seats | 1 |
With 400 Health and 300 Stamina, the Red-Feathered Raptor has a solid endurance pool for a temporary mount. Its 25 Attack is modest, but the raptor compensates with raw speed and agility. The 50 Evade is the highest among comparable mounts. This reflects the raptor's nimble movement.
How to Obtain
Red-Feathered Raptors are found in the Crimson Desert region, particularly north and east of Tashkalp. They are not wild riderless creatures; instead, they are ridden by hostile NPCs. To claim one, the player must:
Locate an enemy rider mounted on a raptor in the desert badlands.
Defeat or dismount the hostile NPC. Ranged attacks or well-timed melee strikes can knock the rider off.
Quickly approach the now-riderless raptor and press the Ride button before it bolts. The raptor will attempt to flee once its rider falls, so speed is essential.
Unlike predator mounts such as bears or wolves, you do not need to beat the raptor into submission. The challenge lies entirely in dispatching the rider and mounting quickly enough.
Patch 1.06.00 Taming Walkthrough
With the Patch 1.06.00 special mounts overhaul, the Red-Feathered Raptor became one of the first new species players can register through the new special mounts tab. The taming method is straightforward, but the spawn window is narrow and easily lost.
Where to Find a Raptor
Confirmed sightings are clustered in the southern Crimson Desert around the Tashkalp badlands. The four outposts that anchor the spawn zone are the Crimson Mountains Fortress, the Watchtower, Dushar, and Dawnreach. Riderless raptors are not part of the ambient wildlife; every confirmed mount has been knocked off a hostile rider patrolling these outposts.
Step by Step
Step | Action |
|---|---|
1 | Stock up on meat. Any butchery sells lean, fine, tough, or marbled meat. Four pieces is more than enough; a single raptor reaches full trust in about three pieces of land meat. |
2 | Fast-travel to one of the four outposts in southern Tashkalp. Look for an enemy archer mounted on a red-feathered bipedal creature. |
3 | Knock the rider off. Repeated hits on either the raptor or the rider will dismount them. Killing the rider also works. |
4 | Chase the riderless raptor. It runs for a short distance before slowing to a walk. The bird is not as fast as the name suggests, so a sprinting Kliff catches up easily. |
5 | Press X (Xbox) or Square (PlayStation) when the prompt appears to mount. |
6 | Open the inventory while mounted, hold A / X on a meat item and select Feed. Trust rises by roughly 40 per piece of land meat; bird meat gives about 35. |
7 | At 100 trust, press Y (Xbox) or Triangle (PlayStation) to Take In. The raptor is now registered in the new Special Mounts tab and can be renamed and summoned from the mount wheel. |
Permanent Despawn Warning
This is the single most reported pitfall with the Red-Feathered Raptor. Once a player has liberated all four anchor outposts (Crimson Mountains Fortress, Watchtower, Dushar, Dawnreach), the rider patrols vanish. With no riders, no new raptors spawn here, and no alternate spawn zone has been confirmed elsewhere in Pywel. Players who finished the area before Patch 1.06.00 added the taming system often find they cannot obtain one at all on their main save.
The recommended workaround is Re-Blockading. Open the pause menu, go to Settings, then Gameplay, and set Re-Blockade Frequency to War. This repopulates previously cleared outposts with enemies over time. Spawning is random and can take several reloads, but it is currently the only confirmed way to get raptor riders back into Tashkalp. Patch 1.07.00 later noted that the world animal mount count was increased, but as of the current build no second raptor habitat has been documented.
Strongly recommended: create a manual save before clearing any of the four Tashkalp outposts if you do not yet have a raptor. The raptor cannot be re-obtained by reloading after the outpost is cleared without flipping the Re-Blockade Frequency setting.
Riding Behavior and Combat
The Red-Feathered Raptor is the fastest land combat mount in the game, ideal for hit-and-run tactics. When mounted, Kliff can attack while the raptor dashes in and out of engagement range. The raptor's agility allows it to weave through dense terrain and leap over obstacles that would stop larger mounts.
While on the raptor, the player retains access to their equipped weapon. The combination of the raptor's raw speed and the rider's offensive capabilities makes this mount excellent for striking enemy formations and retreating before reinforcements arrive.
The raptor has no independent attack commands of its own; unlike a bear mount (which can claw and bite on its own), the raptor serves purely as a fast platform for the rider's attacks.
Limitations
Temporary only: Like all Fleeting Companions, the raptor cannot be stabled, summoned, or saved. Once you dismount, the raptor is gone.
Despawn timer: Community testing suggests raptors despawn within roughly one minute of being mounted, even if you remain on them. This makes them short-duration rides.
No independent combat: The raptor itself does not attack enemies. All damage comes from the rider's weapons.
Cannot be permanently tamed: As of Patch 1.01.00, there is no method to permanently register a raptor at a stable. Community-extracted game data suggests raptor registration may be added in a future update.
Tips
Use ranged weapons like a bow to snipe the enemy rider off the raptor from a distance, giving you more time to mount before it runs.
The raptor excels at clearing distance quickly. If you need to escape a losing fight, mounting a raptor and sprinting away is one of the most reliable escape options in the game.
Pair the raptor's speed with hit-and-run tactics against larger groups of enemies. Dash in, land a few strikes, then sprint out of range before they can retaliate.

Faction Association
The Red-Feathered Raptor is closely associated with the Twilight Messenger faction. Members of this faction are recognizable by their distinctive gold-colored clothing and armor. They patrol the eastern side of the Tashelp area in the Crimson Desert region, riding raptors as their primary mounts. The Twilight Messengers are among the more visually striking enemy factions in the game, and their use of raptor mounts contributes to their identity as swift, mobile combatants.
To obtain a raptor, you need to knock a Twilight Messenger rider off their mount and quickly chase down the freed raptor before it runs away. The raptor itself does not need to be staggered or subdued; the challenge is entirely in dispatching the rider and mounting fast enough.
Jump Characteristics
While the Red-Feathered Raptor does not jump particularly high, it has surprisingly good horizontal jump distance. Each leap covers a generous amount of ground, making it useful for clearing gaps, streams, or broken terrain that would require detours on other mounts. This horizontal reach sets it apart from mounts like the Sandwalk Camel, which has minimal jump capability in any direction.
The raptor functions like a dinosaur mount in practice, with its movement and appearance evoking the feel of riding a prehistoric predator through the desert. It is not overly fast compared to the quickest mounts in the game, but its combination of decent speed and strong horizontal leaps makes it a capable all-around temporary mount for the Crimson Desert terrain.
