Overview
Mind Games Challenges are a subset of the Minigame Challenges in Crimson Desert. These challenges track your participation and performance in the gambling minigames found across Pywel. The category focuses on the card-based (stick-based, technically) games of Duo and Five-Card, rewarding players who master the rules, learn to read opponents, and build up winnings.
Mind Games Challenges do not give direct rewards on their own. Instead, completing challenges in this category counts toward the True Gamer trophy and achievement, which requires finishing all Minigame sub-categories. The real payoff comes from the Silver you earn by winning matches.
How to Unlock
Mind Games Challenges are unlocked by participating in the gambling minigames for the first time. Visit any gambling den in Pywel and play a round to register the associated challenges in your challenge log. You need to find Sealed Abyss Artifacts to track specific challenge requirements, but the minigames themselves are available whenever you walk into a den.
Gambling Dens
Three gambling dens operate across Pywel, each offering a different game and stakes:
Location | Game | Buy-In | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
15 Silver | Beginner-friendly. First town you visit in the campaign. | ||
300 Silver | Northeast Pywel. Highest stakes Duo table. | ||
150 Silver | Northern Pywel. The only Five-Card location. |
The number of opponents varies randomly between one and three per session.
How Duo Works
In Duo, each player receives five numbered sticks in yellow or red. The game automatically selects three of your sticks that sum to 10, 20, or 30. The remaining two sticks form your "Duo" hand, and that is what determines the winner.
Hand rankings from strongest to weakest:
Hand | Description |
|---|---|
Ten Pair | Both remaining sticks are 10s. Automatic win. |
Pair | Both sticks match the same number (1-9). Higher pair beats lower pair. |
Perfect Nine | Two sticks totaling exactly 9. Strongest non-pair hand. |
Points | Single-digit sum of your two sticks (anything other than 9). Higher is better. |
Bust | No valid three-stick combination exists. Automatic loss. |
How Five-Card Works
Five-Card introduces color into the hand rankings. Red sticks are more valuable than yellow, and certain red combinations create unbeatable hands.
Hand rankings from strongest to weakest:
Hand | Description |
|---|---|
Prime Pair | A red 3 paired with a red 8. Guaranteed win, no exceptions. |
Superior Pair | Red 1 paired with a red 3 or red 8. |
Ten Pair | Both sticks are 10s, any color. |
Standard Pair | Any matching number pair. |
One-plus Combinations | A 1 paired with another number. Ranked by the second value. |
Cheating Mechanic
After playing enough rounds, you will occasionally notice an opponent with a blue outline. Observe this behavior three separate times and Kliff unlocks the ability to cheat. When it is your turn to deal, a "Hide Hand" prompt appears, letting you pick specific stick numbers and colors.
The best targets when cheating are Red 3 or Red 8 in Five-Card (to build toward a Prime Pair) and matching 10s in Duo for an automatic Ten Pair. You can also accuse other players of cheating if you spot the blue outline. A correct accusation removes them from the match, but a wrong accusation results in a two-day ban from that den.
Challenge List
Mind Games Challenges track milestones across your gambling career. Specific challenge names become visible after finding the associated Sealed Abyss Artifacts, but they generally follow this pattern:
Challenge | Requirement |
|---|---|
A Bloom of High Stakes | Win a specified number of gambling matches. |
Duo Novice | Win multiple Duo matches at the Hernand den. |
High Roller | Win Duo matches at the high-stakes Tomasso table. |
Five-Card Specialist | Win multiple Five-Card matches at Beighen. |
Completing all Mind Games Challenges, along with the other Minigame sub-categories (Test of Strength, Duels), unlocks the True Gamer trophy and achievement.
Strategy and Tips
Save before entering a den. Create a manual save outside each gambling den. If you lose a large bet, reload and try again. This is the fastest way to build Silver.
Go all-in early. The AI tends to call all-in bets during the first round or two. With a strong hand (5+ points in Duo or a 7+ pair in Five-Card), going all-in maximizes your winnings.
Start at Hernand. The 15 Silver buy-in is low risk and perfect for learning the rules before moving to Tomasso or Beighen.
Unlock cheating as soon as possible. Keep an eye out for the blue-outline opponents. Three observations unlock the cheat ability permanently.
Prime Pair wins everything. In Five-Card, a red 3 plus a red 8 cannot be beaten. If you have the cheat ability, aim for this hand whenever you deal.
