Overview
Bright Red Dye is a dye item in Crimson Desert that produces a vivid red color when applied to armor and clothing. It is a commonly used dye in Hernandian territory, associated with the bold red tones favored by the people of the region. Oliver the Dyer, a Greymane craftsman who joins your camp, is known for recreating this striking color.
Dyes in Crimson Desert are consumable items. When you use a dye from your inventory, it permanently unlocks all shades associated with that color at any Dyehouse. You can then visit a Dyer NPC to apply the unlocked color to individual pieces of equipment as many times as you like without spending additional materials.
Recipe
Bright Red Dye is crafted at a Cauldron, not a cooking pot. The recipe requires a specific combination of flowers and insects:
Ingredient | Quantity | Category | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
10 | Flower | Gathered from herb patches across Pywel | |
3 | Insect | Caught in grassy and forested areas | |
3 | Insect | Caught in grassy and forested areas |
The Peony is a pink medicinal herb that grows across the fields and hillsides of Pywel. It is one of several pink-toned flowers used in dye recipes, alongside Pink Rosemary and Begonia. For this recipe, only Peonies are required. Rhinoceros Beetles and Longhorn Beetles are common insects found by searching bushes and grass in forested areas.
Cauldron Location
A cauldron is located in Hernand, inside the building just north of the Rock, Paper, Scissors minigame area. Enter the building, interact with the cauldron, and select the Bright Red Dye recipe from the list. If you have not yet learned the recipe, you can use the "Improvise" option at the cauldron and experiment with the correct combination of Peonies, Rhinoceros Beetles, and Longhorn Beetles to discover it.
How to Use
After crafting the Bright Red Dye, it appears in your inventory as a consumable item. Open your inventory, select the dye, and choose "Use" to permanently learn the bright red color. Once learned, visit any Dyehouse and speak with a Dyer NPC. Select the piece of gear you want to recolor, choose the bright red shade from your unlocked palette, and confirm the change. The dye application itself is free after the initial unlock.
Oliver the Dyer
Oliver is a Greymane character who eventually joins your camp at Howling Hill as a dye merchant after you progress through the Greymane faction questline and upgrade the camp. He specializes in recreating dyes used throughout Hernandian territory, including the Bright Red Dye. Once Oliver has set up shop, you can purchase pre-made dyes from him directly, saving you the trouble of gathering ingredients yourself.
Related Dye Recipes
Several other red-hued dyes can be crafted at a cauldron using similar base ingredients. The primary difference between them is the ratio and type of beetle used alongside Peonies:
Dye | Ingredients |
|---|---|
Bright Red | 10 Peony, 3 Rhinoceros Beetle, 3 Longhorn Beetle |
10 Peony, 3 Rhinoceros Beetle, 3 Stag Beetle | |
10 Peony, 3 Rhinoceros Beetle, 1 Longhorn Beetle, 2 Stag Beetle | |
10 Peony, 3 Rhinoceros Beetle, 1 Longhorn Beetle, 1 Stag Beetle | |
10 Peony, 3 Rhinoceros Beetle, 2 Longhorn Beetle, 1 Stag Beetle |
All five red dyes require 10 Peonies and 3 Rhinoceros Beetles as a base. The remaining three insect slots determine the exact shade. Bright Red uses three Longhorn Beetles, while other variants substitute one or more with Stag Beetles to shift the tone.
Tips
Gather Peonies in bulk whenever you pass through herb-rich areas. Red dye recipes all require 10 per craft, so having a stockpile saves time.
Rhinoceros Beetles and Longhorn Beetles are both found in the same types of terrain (grassy fields and forest undergrowth), so you can farm both at once.
If you do not have the recipe memorized yet, experiment at the cauldron using the Improvise option. Try mixing 10 of any flower with different combinations of insects to discover new dyes.
Unlocking a dye is permanent. You only need to craft each color once; after that, you can apply it unlimited times at any Dyehouse.
Oliver the Dyer at Howling Hill sells pre-made dyes if you prefer to skip the gathering step. Check his inventory after upgrading the camp through the Greymane questline.
