Ashen Steps is a main quest sub-chapter in Chapter 8: Blood Coronation of Crimson Desert. This multi-part quest sends Kliff on a journey that begins with meeting Torstein and progresses through summoning a witch, collecting ritual components at a shipwreck, and infiltrating Fort Ironclad to rescue Woosa. The quest culminates in a boss fight against Gregor the Halberd of Carnage.
Meet Torstein by the gate and follow him to the river. Along the walk, the two discuss the state of affairs and next steps for the resistance. This is a story-driven sequence with no combat.
Read White Crow's letter, which indicates a location to visit. Travel to the Bamboo Forest Seonangdang and light up the stone lanterns around the shrine. Once all lanterns are lit, Maegu the Witch appears and offers her assistance.
Return to the altar and complete the ritual with the items you collected. Afterward, head northeast to Fort Ironclad. Infiltrate the fortress, locate Woosa inside, and prepare for the boss encounter.
Gregor the Halberd of Carnage wields a massive halberd but has surprisingly slow attack speed. This telegraphed moveset makes him vulnerable to perfect parries. Wait for his wind-up animations, parry at the right moment, then punish with counterattacks. Keep in mind that his swings have wide arcs, so dodge sideways rather than backward if you miss the parry window.
After defeating Gregor, escort Woosa safely back to the forest to complete the Ashen Steps sub-chapter.
Tips
Nature's Grasp is required to retrieve the Censer from beneath the shipwreck. Make sure you have this skill before heading to Shipwreck Shore.
Gregor's slow attack speed is his biggest weakness. Focus on learning his timing rather than trying to rush damage.
The Golden Vanguard Halberd reward is a powerful weapon worth testing against upcoming encounters.
Light all lanterns at the Bamboo Forest Seonangdang before interacting with the shrine. Missing a lantern prevents Maegu from appearing.
