Savage Boars are dangerous boar variants in Windrose with a more aggressive moveset than basic boars. They combine a charge attack, a 4-hit combo chain, and a jump-and-trample move to punish both distance-keeping and defensive play.
Attack Patterns
Attack | Counter |
|---|---|
Charge (red glow, unblockable) | Dodge laterally; attack exposed side after overshoot |
4-attack combo chain | Dodge each hit in sequence; wait for combo to end before counterattacking |
Jump-and-trample (unblockable) | Dodge backward (not laterally); resume position after landing |
Combat Strategy
The Savage Boar rewards patience. Its 4-hit combo punishes players who try to trade blows: attacking during the combo leaves you open to subsequent hits. Instead, focus on clean dodges for the full combo sequence and counterattack in the recovery window. The combo is long enough that sloppy stamina management puts you in Winded state mid-chain, which is usually fatal.
Recommended Gear
Mid-tier melee weapon (Saber or Rapier for fast attacks during recovery)
180+ total armor defense
Stamina-focused food buff (coconut, Coconut Milk with Bananas for early; Hearty Egg Broth for +10 Agility)
Marathon Runner talent from the Toughguy branch (+20-50 max stamina)
Lock-on enabled (T key)
Rewards
Savage Boars drop Rough Hide and meat, useful for mid-tier armor crafting and cooking recipes. They are a reliable source of combat practice for mastering Windrose's dodge timing because their attack telegraphs are consistent and the fight is tuned to reward clean play.

Where to Find
Savage Boars roam the Foothills biome, the mid-game zone past the starting island. They turn up most often in the inland stretches of the Foothills rather than along the coast, and they like to wander near ore nodes and cave mouths, so a resource run through the hills often draws one out. They share the biome with the Alpha Wolf pack and roaming Wolves, so clear the area before you commit to a long fight.
They are a step up from the common Boar and the smaller Sow: the same animal family, but with far more health, a wider moveset, and better loot. Treat any boar with a noticeably larger frame as a Savage Boar and expect the charge and trample mix below.
Drop Uses
Every Savage Boar kill is guaranteed Rough Hide and Meat, which makes the fight a steady source of leather-tier crafting stock and cooking ingredients. The rarer Boar Head is the trophy drop worth holding onto.
Drop | Main Use |
|---|---|
Tanned into leather for mid-tier armor crafting at the Tanning Rack. | |
Cooked into stamina and health dishes through cooking recipes. | |
Rendered for cooking and as a crafting reagent. | |
Crafting and trade material from tusked animals. | |
Trophy and decoration drop; the rarest item on the table at thirty percent. |
