Tactical Notes
Close distance during the long reload window. Parry the pistol-whip if they swap to melee; Slash weapons (rapier, saber, cutlass) work well on unarmored crew.
Priority kill when paired with Sergeants. The ranged shot will punish melee commitment on the Sergeant if the Musketeer is left alive.
The 100%-chance Copper Bullet drop distinguishes Musketeers from other pirates and makes them the farm target for ranged ammunition.
Farming Musketeers
Musketeers are the most reliable on-foot source of firearm consumables in the early game. Every kill drops Homemade Gunpowder and Copper Bullet at a 100 percent rate, so a camp full of them doubles as an ammunition resupply run. Homemade Gunpowder is the universal reagent behind every firearm round, which means a Musketeer farm feeds both the Pistol and the Blunderbuss as well as the Musket they carry. If you are running a Precision build around the Pistol or Musket, clearing Foothills-tier camps keeps your Ammo reserves topped up without crafting.
They have no Armor (0) and only neutral defence, so any weapon works; Saber, Rapier, and Cutlass all cut them down quickly.
Their Nuts drop (70 percent) is a quiet bonus for cooking and early consumables, so do not ignore the food loot.
Insignia drops (Newhand Insignia at 90 percent or Deckhand Insignia at 10 percent) are mutually exclusive per kill and feed the crew-recruitment and reputation systems.
Notes
The named Musketeer quest variant Jim Godart (the Catastrophe's Aftermath boss for the People of Tortuga faction) uses the same base template and loot table as the standard Musketeer.
