Overview
Starsand Island's official feature list mentions the ability to "dye outfits using natural dyes" as part of character customization. In the current Early Access build, the primary way to get colored clothing is through colored fabric, which comes from breeding hued animals, processing their wool at a Loom, and crafting garments at a Sewing Table. A flower-based dye system has been hinted at in some item tooltips, but no guides or community posts have documented a working flower-to-dye recipe as of February 2026.
Colored wool from breeding
The main path to colored fabric starts with breeding colored sheep, rabbits, or alpacas. When two animals of the same species breed, their offspring's color is random. It may take several attempts to get the hue you want. One common method: buy white and black sheep from Pastelle's Green Pasture Ranch and breed them repeatedly until a colored lamb appears.

Seven colored wool types exist:
Red Wool
Blue Wool
Yellow Wool
Green Wool
Orange Wool
Cyan Wool
Black Wool
Collect colored wool the same way as regular wool: wait for the animal to mature, then shear or collect from it on its production cycle.
Bio Research stamp shortcut
There is a more reliable way to get specific colors without relying on random breeding. The Islandpedia's Bio Research stamp collection awards colored lambs at certain milestones. Collecting roughly 72 fish and bug specimens reaches the third stamp milestone, which rewards blue and orange sheep. These animals still need time to mature before producing wool, but you skip the breeding lottery entirely.
Processing at the Loom
The Loom crafting station processes raw wool into fabric. Colored wool produces the corresponding colored fabric. The Loom can output:
White Fabric, Black Fabric, Red Fabric, Blue Fabric, Yellow Fabric
Green Fabric, Orange Fabric, Cyan Fabric, Purple Fabric, Rainbow Fabric
Plus non-wool materials: Leather, Linen, and Velvet
The Loom also processes fiber into Hemp Rope, which is used in various crafting recipes.
Crafting clothing at the Sewing Table
Once you have colored fabric, bring it to the Sewing Table to craft clothing items. The Sewing Table uses fabric (colored or plain) along with other materials to produce wearable outfits. Over 200 clothing pieces exist in the game, covering Eastern and Western fantasy designs, traditional styles, and casual outfits from around the world.
Important: Intermediate Rancher quest
The Intermediate Rancher profession quest from Pastelle requires delivering seven colored wools, one of each hue, to her. Do not sell your colored wool until this quest is complete. Getting all seven colors takes time due to the random nature of breeding, so start early.

Other clothing sources
Colored fabric crafting is not the only way to get outfits. Other sources include:
Item | Description |
|---|---|
Ethereal Styles (Lunelle's shop) | sells ready-made clothing, with some limited-time pieces |
Bloom Atelier (Serena's shop) | hairstyle and facial makeup changes |
Quest rewards and NPC gifts | -- |
Seasonal events | limited-time outfits tied to in-game holidays |

Tips
Start breeding colored animals as soon as you unlock the Breeding Hut. The sooner you start, the sooner random chance delivers the hues you need.
Work on the Bio Research stamps in parallel. Catching fish and bugs for the Islandpedia gives you guaranteed colored sheep at milestones.
Save one of each colored wool for the Intermediate Rancher quest before selling or crafting with any.
Check flower tooltips for dye hints. While no working flower-based dye recipes have been documented yet, this may be added in a future Early Access update.
