Overview
Starsand Island's official feature list mentions the ability to "dye outfits using natural dyes" as part of Character Customization. In the current Early Access build, the primary way to get colored clothing is through colored fabric, which comes from breeding hued animals, processing their wool at a Loom, and crafting garments at a Sewing Table. No flower-based dye mechanic exists in the game as of March 2026. Some flower item tooltips hint at dye uses, but no working flower-to-dye recipe has been documented by any guide or community source.
The Textile Chain
Producing colored clothing follows a three-station pipeline:

Step | Station | Input | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
1 | Raw fiber, wool | Thread, yarn, rope | |
2 | Colored wool, fiber, fur | Colored fabric, leather, linen, velvet | |
3 | Colored fabric + other materials | Wearable clothing items |
All three station blueprints are available at the Starter tier from Zerine's General Store.
Colored Sheep Varieties
The main path to colored fabric starts with breeding colored sheep. Starsand Island has 12 sheep varieties, each producing a different wool color:
Variety | Wool Color | How to Obtain | Rarity |
|---|---|---|---|
White Wool | Common | ||
White Wool | Breeding | Subspecies | |
Black Wool | Common | ||
Black Wool | Breeding | Subspecies | |
Red Sheep | Red Wool | Breeding | Rare |
Orange Wool | Breeding or Bio Research | Rare | |
Yellow Sheep | Yellow Wool | Breeding | Rare |
Green Sheep | Green Wool | Breeding | Rare |
Cyan Sheep | Cyan Wool | Breeding | Rare |
Blue Sheep | Blue Wool | Breeding or Bio Research | Rare |
Purple Sheep | Purple Wool | Breeding | Rare |
Cloud Sheep | Unknown | Breeding | Super Rare |
Only Snowool and Ebowool can be purchased directly from Pastelle's Green Pasture Ranch. All other varieties must be bred. All sheep are rideable.
Breeding for Color
When two sheep of the same species breed, the offspring's color is random. It may take several attempts to get the hue you want. A common starting method: buy a male and female Snowool (white) and Ebowool (black) from the Ranch and breed them repeatedly. First-generation offspring can include Fluffwool, Duswool, or Blue Sheep. Further cross-breeding of colored offspring gradually expands your available palette.
Place one male and one female adult sheep in a breeding enclosure with at least one empty slot. Animals breed overnight when they are fed, clean, and happy. The Selective Breeding House (an advanced structure) increases the odds of inheriting desired traits, though color remains random.
Bio Research Stamp Shortcut
The Islandpedia's Bio Research stamp collection offers a more reliable way to get specific colors without relying on random breeding. Collecting approximately 72 fish and bug specimens reaches the third stamp milestone, which awards 3 Orange Sheep and 3 Blue Sheep delivered directly to your farm. These animals still need time to mature before producing wool, but you skip the breeding lottery entirely.
Earlier Bio Research stamp milestones also reward special animal breeds: the Dango Rabbit at the first stamp tier and the Luna Rabbit at the second.
Loom Products
The Loom processes raw wool and other materials into fabric. It produces 13 fabric types:
Fabric | Source Material |
|---|---|
White Fabric | White Wool |
Black Fabric | Black Wool |
Red Fabric | Red Wool |
Blue Fabric | Blue Wool |
Yellow Fabric | Yellow Wool |
Green Fabric | Green Wool |
Orange Fabric | Orange Wool |
Cyan Fabric | Cyan Wool |
Purple Fabric | Purple Wool |
Rainbow Fabric | Unknown (possibly Cloud Sheep wool) |
Leather | Fur (from large animals such as cows and horses) |
Fiber (gathered from the ground surface) | |
Premium Wool (from happy adult animals) |
Linen is the earliest fabric available since fiber can be gathered from the ground without any animals. The Loom also processes fiber into Hemp Rope, used in various crafting recipes.
Crafting Clothing at the Sewing Table
The Sewing Table uses fabric (colored or plain) along with other materials to produce wearable outfits. Over 200 clothing pieces exist in the game, covering Eastern and Western fantasy designs, traditional styles, and casual outfits from around the world. Clothing schematics at the Sewing Table are called "patterns," and new patterns are unlocked progressively through gameplay.
Profession Quest: Colored Wool Delivery
One of the Rancher profession quests from Pastelle requires delivering seven colored wools, one of each hue. Do not sell your colored wool until this quest is complete. Getting all seven colors takes time due to the random nature of breeding, so start building your flock early.

Tips
Start breeding colored animals as soon as you unlock the Breeding Hut. The sooner you start, the sooner random chance delivers the hues you need.
Work on the Bio Research stamps in parallel. Catching fish and bugs for the Islandpedia gives you guaranteed colored sheep at milestones.
Save one of each colored wool for the Rancher profession quest before selling or crafting with any.
Linen from gathered fiber is your first available fabric and does not require any animals at all.
Check Ethereal Styles regularly. The shop's inventory refreshes after sleeping, and it expands as your purchase history grows.
