There are five flavors in Pokemon Pokopia that determine how much a Pokemon enjoys a particular food. The five flavors are Sweet, Spicy, Dry, Bitter, and Sour. Every Pokemon has a favorite flavor listed in its Pokedex entry. Feeding a Pokemon its preferred flavor gives a larger boost to its Comfort Level compared to an unflavored or non-preferred food.
Flavor | Description | Commonly Preferred By |
|---|---|---|
Sweet | Sugary and pleasant taste | Cute and small Pokemon, Normal-types |
Spicy | Hot and bold taste | Fire-type and energetic Pokemon |
Dry | Mild and earthy taste | Rock-type and Ground-type Pokemon |
Bitter | Sharp and herbal taste | Grass-type and aquatic Pokemon |
Sour | Tangy and acidic taste | Poison-type and certain Water-type Pokemon |

Matching a Pokemon's preferred flavor when feeding it food gives a larger Comfort Level boost compared to feeding it unflavored food or food with a different flavor. Pokemon sometimes directly request a specific flavor when you talk to them. Fulfilling these flavor requests improves your relationship with that Pokemon and contributes to raising the area's Environment Level.
Each Pokemon's favorite flavor is displayed in its Pokedex entry. You can also talk to a Pokemon directly; they will occasionally mention what flavor they are craving. Keeping a stock of all five flavors ensures you can satisfy any Pokemon's request.
There are four types of food in Pokopia, each made at a different cooking station. Each food type has six variants with different flavors.

Feeding Mosslax once per day triggers a buff that lasts until 5:00 AM the next day. The buff depends on the flavor of the food you give it.
Flavor | Buff Effect |
|---|---|
Sweet | Boosts Ancient Artifact discovery rates |
Spicy | Increases Pokemon spawn rates in habitats |
Dry | Rainbow Feathers and Silver Feathers spawn more frequently |
Bitter | Increases rare item drop rates |
Sour | Improves shop inventory quality |
Neutral (no flavor) | Increases friendship rate with all Pokemon |
The strength of Mosslax's buff depends on whether you offer raw ingredients or cooked food. Cooked dishes provide noticeably stronger effects than raw berries or crops. There are two buff tiers: Moderate (from raw ingredients and simple dishes) and Strong (from advanced cooked recipes). To get the maximum benefit each day, always offer a cooked dish rather than a raw berry.
The following table lists the strongest cooked offering for each flavor. These recipes all produce the Strong tier buff when offered to Mosslax.
Flavor | Best Cooked Offering | Recipe Type | Buff (Strong Tier) |
|---|---|---|---|
Sweet | Bread (Bread Oven) | Greatly boosts Ancient Artifact discovery rates | |
Spicy | Salad (Chopping Board) | Greatly increases Pokemon spawn rates in habitats | |
Dry | Rainbow Feathers and Silver Feathers spawn much more frequently | ||
Bitter | Bread (Bread Oven) | Greatly increases rare item drop rates | |
Sour | Hamburger Steak (Frying Pan) | Greatly improves shop inventory quality | |
Neutral | Hamburger Steak (Frying Pan) | Moderately increases friendship rate with all Pokemon |
Mosslax is located in a cave in Bleak Beach, to the northeast of the area. Before you can interact with Mosslax, you need to complete the Bleak Beach main story quest and reach 100 bloom points by connecting Utility Poles between power sources and streetlamps. When Raikou appears at the top of town and releases a jolt of electricity, it wakes Mosslax and unlocks the feeding mechanic.
To feed Mosslax, place food on the Gourmet's Offering plate in front of it. The food's dominant flavor determines which buff you receive. You can only offer food to Mosslax once per in-game day. The buff lasts until 5:00 AM the next day, so plan your offering around whichever activity you want to focus on that session.
Since you can only feed Mosslax once per day, pick the buff that matches your current goals:
Strategy | Details |
|---|---|
Filling the Pokedex | Offer Spicy food to boost habitat spawn rates, then visit habitats with missing Pokemon. |
Offer Dry food so Rainbow Feathers and Silver Feathers appear more frequently across the map. | |
Treasure hunting | Offer Sweet food before visiting Dream Islands or exploring for Ancient Artifacts. |
Rare material farming | Offer Bitter food when gathering from Litter Pokemon or breaking Glowing Blocks. |
Shopping for rare items | Offer Sour food before checking Trade-specialty Pokemon shops for better inventory. |
Raising comfort levels | Offer Neutral food when focusing on befriending new Pokemon or raising Comfort Levels across habitats. |
Place food on a dish in a Pokemon's habitat or hand it to them directly. Unflavored food gives a small Comfort Level boost but is less effective than a flavor match. Berries and raw crops also carry flavor profiles before being cooked. Keep a stock of all five flavors to satisfy any Pokemon's request. Feed Mosslax dry food if you are farming feathers for Ho-Oh and Lugia, or spicy food if you are trying to fill your Pokedex.
