Homework and School Life
April 10, 2026 at 10:43 AM
Major expansion from ~1,281 to ~2,400 words with deeper coverage of enrollment steps, homework strategies per task type, academic level mechanics, home furniture setup, random event outcomes, time management tips, and common mistakes
School is a core part of life for younger Zois in inZOI. Children, Adolescents, and Teenagers attend school daily, where they develop Skills, form Relationships, and prepare for adulthood. The education system spans three school levels tied to specific Life Stages, followed by an optional University track for Young Adults.
Schools currently operate as rabbit holes, meaning Zois disappear into the school building during school hours and return home afterward. Players cannot follow their Zois inside or directly control their actions in the building, but they can influence what their Zois focus on by clicking the portrait in the sidebar while school is in session. After school, students receive homework assignments that must be completed at home before the next school day.
Enrollment for elementary, middle, and high school is automatic. When a Zoi ages into the appropriate life stage, they are placed into the corresponding school level without any action from the player. There are no admission requirements, fees, or application steps for pre-university education.
Players can verify enrollment status and monitor school information through the Smartphone (press P) by navigating to the School tab. This tab displays the current school level, attendance record, absence count, schedule, and academic level. Players can also use this tab to voluntarily drop out of school or, for Young Adults, apply to university.
inZOI features three school levels tied to specific life stages. One in-game day equals 48 real-world minutes by default (changed from 96 minutes in the v0.4.0 update), though this can be adjusted in settings.
School Level | Life Stage | Duration (In-Game Days) |
|---|---|---|
Elementary School | Child (days 4-10) | ~7 days |
Middle School | Adolescent (days 11-15) | ~5 days |
High School | Teenager (days 16-20) | ~5 days |
The Adolescent life stage was specifically created by the developers because they "wanted a middle school in the game" and to stretch the early years out to give each Zoi's personality time to form. Each school level builds on the previous one, and the homework tasks become progressively more varied as the Zoi moves through the stages.
After completing High School, Zois age up to Young Adult automatically. At that point they can optionally attend University. Characters age up on their own without any player prompting.
School follows a structured daily schedule. Zois automatically travel to school at the designated time each morning and return home when the school day ends. Players receive a notification when it is time for the Zoi to leave, and as long as the Zoi's Needs are in reasonable shape, they will head out on their own.
During school hours, players can click the Zoi's portrait in the sidebar to choose between activities like studying, socializing with classmates, or eating in the cafeteria. While the options are limited compared to direct control, they provide some influence over which skills and relationships develop during the rabbit hole period. Choosing "Study" tends to support academic level progress, while "Socialize" builds the Social child skill and can improve friendships with classmates.
While at school, random events (sometimes called "chance cards" by the community) may pop up, presenting scenarios with multiple response choices. The game pauses when a random event appears, giving players time to read the scenario and consider their options before making a decision.
These events cover a range of school situations. A student might face a conflict with a classmate, get invited to join a study group, be asked to help another student with an assignment, or encounter a decision about participating in a school activity. Each choice has consequences that affect the Zoi's mood, relationships with classmates, and skill progress.
Event outcomes are often tied to the four child-specific skills. Choosing to help a classmate typically builds the Social skill, while handling a conflict assertively may develop Responsibility. Creative or performance-related choices can boost Creativity. Paying attention to which skills your Zoi needs most can help guide your decisions during these events.
The game tracks attendance and absences through the School tab on the Smartphone. Three unexcused absences will result in expulsion from school. Once expelled, the Zoi loses all academic progress and must re-enroll to start over.
Players can also voluntarily drop out of school via the School tab, but this causes all academic progress to reset. Dropped-out Zois can re-enroll later, though they will begin from the beginning of their current school level.
To avoid unintentional absences, make sure your Zoi's basic needs (hunger, energy, hygiene) are met before the school notification arrives. A Zoi who is too hungry, exhausted, or uncomfortable may refuse to leave for school, which counts as an unexcused absence. Setting an early wake-up routine and keeping meals and showers on schedule helps ensure reliable attendance.
After each school day, young Zois receive homework assignments that appear as a task list on the left side of the screen. These tasks must be completed within a tight window of approximately 5 to 6 hours after school ends. If the deadline passes before all tasks are finished, any incomplete assignments count as missed and the Zoi's academic level drops.
Task Type | How to Complete | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Reading Assignments | Find the correct book on a bookshelf and study it | Must study to completion, not just finish the reading bar; books are on bookshelves, not in inventory |
Computer Research | Use the Homework tab on a computer | Select the correct homework option from available choices |
Coding Tasks | Complete programming assignments via computer | Access through the computer's Homework interface |
Fitness Assessments | Complete exercises on a treadmill | Physical education assignments; requires a treadmill at home or access to a gym |
Music Assignments | Compose or practice musical pieces | May require composing harmonies for choral performance assessment |
Essay Writing | Write essays via computer | Has strict time constraints; access through the Homework tab |
Reading assignments are the most common source of confusion for new players. When the homework says to read a specific book, you must find the exact correct title on the bookshelf. Pay close attention to the required level of the book. For example, the homework might ask for an "advanced" version of a topic rather than the "beginner" one, and books with similar titles can easily be mixed up. Simply filling the reading progress circle is not enough; the Zoi must continue studying the book until the homework task is explicitly marked as complete on the task list.
If you do not own the required book at home, visit a public library. The AR Library in Dowon and the public library in Bliss Bay both have a wide selection. Open the map, select the library, and choose "Go Here" or "Drive Here" to travel there. The Zoi can read and study the book on-site to complete the assignment.
Computer-based tasks (research, coding, and essay writing) are generally straightforward. Interact with any computer and open the Homework tab. The available assignments will be listed, and you select the one that matches your current task. Make sure to start computer assignments early in the homework window since essay writing in particular can take a significant chunk of time.
Fitness assessments require a treadmill. If you do not have one at home, you will need to visit a community lot with gym equipment. Queue the treadmill exercise as soon as the homework appears to leave time for other assignments afterward.
inZOI tracks academic performance through an "Academic Level" metric rather than a traditional GPA or letter grade system. There is no formal grading scale, honor roll, or report card. The Academic Level is displayed as a progress bar on the School tab of the Smartphone, along with attendance, absence count, and the current school schedule.
Completing homework on time and attending school regularly both increase the Academic Level. Missing homework deadlines, skipping school days, or accumulating absences cause it to decline. Positive random event outcomes at school can also give small boosts. The Academic Level carries over between school levels, so a child who maintains a high academic level in elementary school enters middle school with a head start.
While there are currently no direct gameplay rewards tied to a high academic level (such as career bonuses or scholarship offers), maintaining it ensures your Zoi stays enrolled and avoids the penalties of dropping out. Future updates may expand the role of academic performance in career advancement and other systems.
Young Zois have access to four exclusive child skills, each capped at level 5. When a Zoi ages up to Teenager, the associated adult skills automatically start at level 5 through what the game calls an "Aptitude" unlock. This makes childhood skill development particularly valuable for long-term character progression.
Child Skill | Activities to Develop | Adult Skills Unlocked at Level 5 |
|---|---|---|
Playing instruments (piano, synthesizer, drums), doodling, painting on an easel, playing video games | ||
Treadmill (fastest), yoga mat, playing with basketballs or soccer balls, riding a rocking horse | ||
Talking to other kids at school (best method), conversing with family, interacting with other Zois | ||
Cleaning, writing a journal, completing self-directed tasks, organizing | Housework (other conversions unconfirmed) |
Creativity is the most versatile child skill because it converts to four different adult skills. Children who max Creativity before aging up will start with level 5 in Performance, Media Production, Art, and Instrument simultaneously. For players focused on long-term optimization, prioritizing Creativity during childhood offers the biggest return.
Outside of school hours and homework time, young Zois can participate in various activities to develop their skills. There are no formal clubs or extracurricular programs in the current version, but children have many home-based and neighborhood options for growth.
Instruments: Practice piano, synthesizer, or drums for Creativity development
Art: Paint on an easel or doodle at a table for Creativity and future Art skill
Exercise: Use a treadmill or yoga mat for Motor Development and future Fitness
Outdoor play: Play with basketballs and soccer balls for Motor Development
Socializing: Talk to friends and family for Social skill growth
Chores: Clean the house and write in a journal for Responsibility
Video games: Play on a computer for Creativity development
Library visits: Visit public locations for reading and socialization opportunities
Balancing these activities around homework is important. Complete all homework assignments first, then use the remaining evening and weekend time for skill-building. Weekends are especially valuable since there is no school or homework, leaving the entire day open for focused skill training.
Having the right furniture at home makes a significant difference in your Zoi's ability to complete homework and develop skills efficiently. Without certain items, your Zoi will need to travel to public locations for basic assignments, eating into the limited homework time window.
Furniture | Purpose |
|---|---|
Bookshelf | Required for reading homework assignments; stores books for study |
Computer/Desktop | Required for research, coding, and essay homework; also used for video games (Creativity) |
Treadmill | Required for fitness assessment homework; also builds Motor Development |
Piano, Synthesizer, or Drums | Required for music homework; also builds Creativity |
Easel | Not homework-required but builds Creativity and future Art skill |
Yoga Mat | Not homework-required but builds Motor Development |
At minimum, every household with a school-age Zoi should have a bookshelf and a computer. These two items cover the majority of homework task types. Add a treadmill and an instrument if you want to handle fitness and music assignments at home rather than traveling to community lots.
After completing High School, Young Adults can optionally attend university. Enrollment is done through the Smartphone's School tab by selecting a degree program and clicking Apply. There are no fees, admission requirements, or GPA minimums. Admission is instant, and the Zoi receives an SMS confirmation with their updated schedule.
Major | Skills Boosted |
|---|---|
Multimedia Arts | |
Business Administration | Not fully confirmed |
Computer Science | Likely Programming and Critical Thinking |
Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
Schedule | Classes run 3 days per week, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM |
Homework | University students receive 2 tasks per school day with tight deadlines of only a few hours |
Graduation | Requires attending university at least 6 times, taking approximately 8 to 10 in-game days; Zois also automatically graduate when aging up from Young Adult to Adult |
Diploma | A university diploma appears on the Zoi's profile after graduation |
Career Impact | Currently limited; no career requires a degree, but attending provides significant skill advancement in the chosen major |
Work Restriction | Zois cannot hold full-time or part-time jobs while enrolled; starting a job automatically removes them from university |
University locations include Youngsung School in Dowon and Bliss Bay Public School in Bliss Bay. Both offer all three degree programs. Players can switch majors at any time, but doing so resets all progress from the previous degree. Since the game is in early access, university benefits may be expanded in future updates.
Start homework immediately. The 5-to-6-hour deadline is tighter than it seems, especially when multiple tasks need different furniture. Queue the first assignment as soon as your Zoi gets home.
Match the exact book title. Reading homework specifies a particular book, sometimes at a particular difficulty level. Double-check that the title matches before your Zoi starts reading. Reading the wrong book wastes time and does not count toward the assignment.
Study, do not just read. Filling the reading progress circle is not the same as completing the homework. The Zoi must study the book to completion; the task is only marked done when the left-side checklist updates.
Keep needs topped off before school. A Zoi who is starving or exhausted may refuse to leave for school, costing an unexcused absence. Feed them and let them sleep early the night before.
Use weekends for skill grinding. No school or homework on weekends means the full day is available for Creativity, Motor Development, Social, and Responsibility training.
Prioritize Creativity early. It unlocks four adult skills at level 5, more than any other child skill. Focus on instruments, painting, and video games during free time.
Buy a bookshelf and computer first. These two pieces of furniture cover most homework types and save travel time to public libraries.
Do not ignore random events. School chance cards can boost skills and relationships. Read the options carefully and choose based on which skill your Zoi needs most.
The 2026 Roadmap includes several school-related improvements that will expand the education system:
Fundamentals First: Students will automatically equip their backpack when leaving home during school commute time. School bus support for children's commutes depending on the city. School events such as entrance and graduation ceremonies.
Q1 2026: High school campus properties as playable, explorable locations.
Q3 2026: Part-time jobs available for teenagers, expanding the Career system to younger life stages.
The development team has stated they aim to "create a real school, not a rabbit hole," and are considering teacher interactions, clubs, and after-school programs for future updates. These changes would transform schools from background systems into fully interactive locations where players can follow their Zois through the school day.
