Experience and Skills
Gothic 1 Remake retains a progression system very close to the original Gothic. The Nameless Hero accumulates experience through fighting and quest-giving, and uses that experience to buy training from NPCs.
Experience and Levels
Experience is gained by killing monsters, finishing quests, and completing story beats. Whenever the Hero levels up, he receives learning points that he can spend to improve his attributes and combat skills.
Stats Only Go Up at Trainers
Stats cannot be raised simply by using them. The Hero has to find a teacher willing to train him, pay for the lesson, and then use his learning points to gain the improvement. This means that the Hero's build is gated by exploration and faction access as much as by combat experience. See Trainers for a running list.
