Pickaxe

The pickaxe is an improvised melee weapon in Gothic 1 Remake. It is primarily a mining tool but it doubles as a bludgeoning weapon in a pinch. The Nyras Prologue demo lets the player pick one up and use it in combat, which makes it one of the earliest weapons any Gothic 1 Remake player has actually swung.

Use

The pickaxe fits the tone of the colony: the inhabitants are convicts sent to mine ore, and the first things that come to hand inside the Barrier are work tools rather than proper swords. It is not a long-term answer for a committed fighter, but it is a believable first weapon and it is viable against early threats like scavengers and molerats.
