Swampsharks are large, predatory reptiles native to the swamps on the edges of the Valley of Mines. Alkimia Interactive revealed a concept-art sneak peek for the remake's Swampshark, confirming their return among the Colony's threat list.
Combat
Heavy biters. Swampsharks open engagements with hard charge attacks that punish committed animations.
Swamp-locked. They tend to stay near standing water and dense swamp terrain, which is usually the Swamp Camp's side of the Colony.
Mid-to-late tier. They are a serious fight until the Hero has at least Trained-tier weapon skill and room to kite.
Underwater
The remake adds underwater diving as a new traversal system (see Traversal). Swampshark encounters that take place in or around water bodies interact with that system in ways the original could not express.
Combat Profile
Trait | Detail |
|---|---|
Tier | Mid to late. A serious fight until the Hero has at least Trained weapon skill and room to kite. |
Behaviour | Heavy biter. Swampsharks open engagements with hard charge attacks that punish committed animations. |
Terrain | Swamp-locked. They stay near standing water and dense swamp ground, especially around the Swamp Camp's side of the Colony. |
Encounter Size | Usually solitary or in pairs along a shared stretch of water. |
Underwater Interaction
The remake adds underwater diving as a new traversal system that the original could not express. See Traversal for the full system. Swampshark encounters that take place in or around water bodies interact with that system: the Hero can dive to break line of sight, but Swampsharks are at home in the water and do not lose track of the Hero by depth alone.
Where They Live
Swampsharks haunt the wetland approaches around the Swamp Camp and the southern lowlands of the Valley of Mines. They do not stray far from water and are not encountered on the ridges or in the high passes.
Tactics
Swampsharks reward patient combat. Letting the charge attack commit, then parrying the follow-up bite, opens a window for a heavy riposte. A bow is also useful for opening damage from the bank of a swamp pool. Charging in melee without acclimating to their reach is a common early-game mistake. See Combat System for the full remake combat loop.
