Kuku Flame Spear

Added Database Stats section with refinement table and material costs

The Kuku Flame Spear is a reinforced two-handed weapon in Crimson Desert that causes fire explosions on every single hit. It is crafted at the Kilnden Workshop by reinforcing a Flame Spear with the Kuku Iron Pot. Unlike its base version, the Kuku Flame Spear will never break and can be further upgraded through the Refining System. It does not have any Abyss Gear sockets, so no additional elemental effects can be applied.
The fire explosion effect triggers on all 10 attack types, including light attacks, heavy attacks, and spinning slashes. Each explosion hits in a large radius around Kliffdamaging enemies to the sides and even slightly behind. This makes it one of the strongest crowd-control weapons in the game for area damage output.

Crafting the Kuku Flame Spear requires unlocking the blueprintgathering the base weapon, and collecting crafting materials. The process has several steps.
Complete the Sanctum of Exaltation in Pailune. Clearing this sanctum rewards the Kuku Flame Spear blueprint at Grimnir's Kuku Shop. The Sanctum of Exaltation is part of the witch quest line, which opens up as you progress through the main story.
The base Flame Spear is found at the Ash Clock Keep in Pailune. This location becomes available after a story encounter around Chapter 6 or 7. Once the story mission is completereturn to the main courtyard and look for an upper terrace where the spear can be collected.
Warning: Do not use the Flame Spear in its unreinforced state. It will break after roughly five hits and be lost permanently unless you reload a save file. Keep it in your inventory until you bring it to the workshop.
In addition to the Flame Spear, you need a standard Kuku Spear (craftable at the shop)lubricantand batteries. These materials drop from robotic enemies in Delesyia
Power CellsDropped by the larger robot enemies along the road from the Abyss Core impact site in Delesyia.
LubricantDropped by smaller, easier robotic enemies found north of the area, closer to Marni's Outpost.
Small BatteriesDropped by various robotic enemies throughout Delesyia.
Bring all materials to Grimnir at the Kilnden Workshop west of Hernand. Craft the Kuku Spear first if you have not already, then combine all components to produce the Kuku Flame Spear.

The fire explosion effect is what sets this weapon apart from every other spear. Every hit triggers an AoE fire explosion in a large radius around Kliff. This is not limited to frontal attacks; enemies to the side or slightly behind are also hit. The explosion triggers on:
Light attacks
Heavy attacks
All other spear attack types (10 total imbued hits)
Because every attack triggers the explosion, the Kuku Flame Spear has exceptional sustained AoE damage. It excels in encounters with multiple enemies clustered together, making it one of the best weapons for clearing groups of trash mobs.
Never use the base Flame Spear before reinforcing it. It will shatter after a few hits.
The Kuku Flame Spear can be refined to increase its damage further, even though it lacks Abyss Gear sockets.
Pair this weapon with fire-resistant armor to offset any fire-based environmental hazards while fighting in close quarters.
For single-target boss damage, consider the Kuku Bismuth Spear instead, which provides both a slow effect and a significant damage bonus against slowed targets.
Patch 1.06.00 expanded every spear in the Kuku Spear family to four Abyssal slots, including the Kuku Flame Spear. Older guides describing the spear as having zero sockets pre-date this change. With the slot expansion the Kuku Flame Spear now runs the same endgame loadout as the rest of the Kuku family: stack Crit Rate III gears in the open slots and finish with one Hound's Claws for the spinning slash AoE.
The Kuku Flame Spear is a special case among the Kuku family because of its base statline. It carries the ideal Kuku archetype of two crit, one attack speed, and 35 base attack damage. Because the base crit is already strong, the spear hits the practical crit ceiling with only two Crit Rate III gears instead of three, leaving the fourth slot open for an attack gear or another utility option. In published benchmark runs the spear has been shown to perform well with three abyss gears (two Crit III plus Hound's Claws), and the fourth socket can be used to push the spear's damage ceiling further with an Attack III gear without losing crit consistency.
Against the Ogre benchmark, the Kuku Flame Spear posts clear times of approximately 30 seconds with only three abyss gears slotted. With a full four-slot loadout the spear is expected to push closer to the Kuku Laser Cannon Spear for top-end damage, though it lacks the laser cannon's ranged utility. Times vary by run, character level, and Refining tier, so figures should be read as relative benchmarks rather than guaranteed clears.
The fire affinity remains one of the more consistent elemental setups in the game at the time of writing, alongside Lightning. The fire explosion triggers on every attack type (light, heavy, and spinning slash variants), and because each detonation hits in an area, the spear works as both a single-target damage tool and an AoE clear weapon without changing the rotation. The Hound's Claws sweep then layers on top, producing overlapping circles of damage that catch anything in melee range.
Slot | Recommended Gear | Reason |
|---|---|---|
Slot 1 | Crit Rate III | Stacks on top of the base two crit so the spear's higher base attack lands more crits per swing. |
Slot 2 | Crit Rate III | Second crit stack to finish the crit curve; the base statline lets you stop at two crits and add utility in slot 3 if desired. |
Slot 3 | Attack III | Optional. The two-crit base statline means the third crit is less impactful; an attack gear extracts more damage per swing. |
Slot 4 | Adds an AoE claw sweep on every spinning slash, stacking with the fire explosion that already triggers per hit. |
Players who already have three Crit Rate III gears stockpiled can substitute the third into slot 3 instead of an Attack III. The performance gap is small and either option is reasonable; the Attack III pick is recommended only because the Flame Spear's base crit makes the third crit stack less marginal.
On the post-1.06 Kuku ranking the Kuku Flame Spear sits in fourth place, with the gap to the third-place Kuku Bismuth Spear coming down to consistency rather than peak damage. Reviewers note that the Flame Spear takes more attempts to reach its best clear time than the Bismuth, but its raw power ceiling is essentially equal. The full ranking is on the Weapon Tier List.
If you only had access to one Kuku spear and removed every other option, the Kuku Flame Spear would still be the strongest weapon in the game by a comfortable margin. Its fourth-place ranking is a statement about how strong the rest of the family is, not a knock on the spear itself.
