Baby Hedgehog
Small wild creature in Crimson Desert that can drop a Golden Apple. Patch 1.04.00 changed the interaction so the Golden Apple drop is now ordinary loot rather than a stealth-required steal: no mask, no bounty, and threatening with a drawn weapon causes the drop without needing to kill the hedgehog.

Overview

Baby Hedgehog is a small wildlife creature found in the world of Crimson Desert. Hedgehog Hedgehogs are nocturnal creatures with a voracious appetite, capable of eating a third of their body weight in one night. While omnivorous, they mainly consume insects and larvae. According to a legend, some hedgehogs in a town carry a golden apple on their back.

Drop Behavior (Patch 1.04)
Following Patch 1.04, baby hedgehogs and their adult counterparts now drop Golden Apples as ordinary loot when threatened or killed. The stealth-steal interaction that the game used to require for harvesting an apple from a living hedgehog's back has been replaced: the apple now spills onto the ground as a normal world item and can be picked up without any special conditions.
Drawing a sword and lightly threatening the hedgehog causes it to drop its apple without dying. This lets the player repeat the farm at the same spawn point, since the hedgehog survives the interaction and remains in the area for future spawn cycles. Killing the hedgehog also drops the apple, but is no longer necessary for the farm to work.
What Changed
Loot, not stealing. Before the patch, taking the apple counted as theft. That behavior is gone. The apple now behaves like any other dropped item and can be collected freely.
No mask required. Equipping a disguise is no longer part of the process. Players can approach the hedgehog without any stealth gear and still walk away with the apple.
No authority response. Picking up the apple no longer triggers a bounty or an NPC alert, so the farm can be run openly near settlements, guards, and fast-travel points.
Non-lethal option. A drawn sword and a light threat is enough to shake the apple loose. The hedgehog stays alive and the same spawn can be checked again later.
For the full farming procedure, preferred spawn circuits, and post-pickup uses (including gold bar conversion at a witch vendor), see the Golden Apple article. Broader hedgehog spawn areas are listed in Best Farming Locations.

Why it Matters
The Patch 1.04.00 rework removes the bounty risk that previously made repeated Golden Apple farming awkward, and the non-violent threat option keeps Life Challenges progression clean for players targeting trophies that count animal kills. Combined with the existing Golden Apple recipe usage, the post-patch loop is one of the cleanest sources of Golden Apples in the early-to-mid game.
