Bird Hunt is a Bonfire combat challenge that rewards the Dodo Trophy decoration. It is one of the more constrained launch-build hunts because only one bird variant counts toward the kill total: the Azure Dodo. Other birds and dodo variants on the starting island and in the Coastal Jungle do not progress the challenge, so a player who is not specifically targeting Azure Dodos may finish the related Buccaneer-in-Training boar challenge before meaningfully advancing Bird Hunt.

Where Azure Dodos Spawn
Azure Dodos are concentrated on the starting island coast and along the inner Coastal Jungle beachfront. Spawn density is lower than for boars, and the birds are skittish, which is why most players who clear this challenge end up doing dedicated runs along the beachline rather than relying on ambient combat. Sprint speed and a wide-arc weapon make the difference between a 20-minute run and an hour of frustration. The Saber is the consensus pick because it can clear two to three dodos per swing in dense flocks.
Recommended Approach
Hunt at dawn or after a fast travel reset. Spawn density resets after fast travel, so chaining Fast Travel jumps along the coast forces a fresh wave of Azure Dodos each loop.
Bring stamina food. Dodos move quickly between hits, so the limiting factor is sprint stamina, not damage. A Coffee or other Endurance-buff food extends the chase distance per stamina bar.
Skip non-Azure birds. Other dodo variants on the starting island and Coastal Jungle do not progress the challenge. A common new-player mistake is to grind 30 mixed-bird kills and not see the counter advance.
Save the heads. The Dodo Head trophy material drops from Azure Dodos at the same rate, so by the time the kill counter hits 20, players usually already have the trophy material in inventory.
Why Azure Only
The challenge is named Bird Hunt rather than Dodo Hunt, which causes confusion because there are multiple bird species on the starting island. The challenge tracker only counts Azure Dodo kills toward the 20-bird target. The reasoning, based on community testing, is that Azure Dodos are the threat-tier bird variant; other birds are passive ambient creatures and do not register as a hunt target. The Trophy crafting requires the Dodo Head specifically, which only Azure Dodos drop, so the constraint is internally consistent even if the challenge name is broader than the eligible enemy list.
