Brethren of the Coast (Quest)

Overview

Brethren of the Coast (Quest) is a faction quest in Windrose.

Edward Teach nearly destroyed the Brethren of the Coast during his assault on Tortuga. Their forces are scattered, and Stede Bonnet's ships, another of Blackbeard's lieutenants, are hunting down the survivors.

This is one of the four faction questlines in Windrose, run for the Brethren of the Coast. Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, shattered the faction during his raid on Tortuga, and his lieutenant Stede Bonnet now hunts the few ships that escaped. Working the chain to its end repairs Captain Hornigold's flagship, the Ranger, breaks Bonnet's blockade, and unlocks the captain's account of the governor's artifact that feeds into the wider story.

Stages

The numbered flow below mirrors the objective list in the quest log. Each entry shows the in-game objective title, the journal description the player sees when the stage becomes active, and any stage-bound Required Items or Rewards.

Stage 1: Find the Survivors

After the pirate attack, the Brethren of the Coast lost many ships and men. Benjamin Hornigold asked me to track down his friends. In return, he promised information about the governor's artifact. The first wreck sits at an abandoned ship near Blackwater; a second group of survivors is found at a wrecked ship on a small island to the southwest. Sail to both markers to clear this stage.

Stage 2: Tell Captain Hornigold of His Friends' Demise

The ships lie aground, their masts shattered, their decks drenched in blood. Pirates and drowned left no survivors. Captain Hornigold is in for some bad news.

Stage 3: Destroy Two Pirate Patrols

I have to set sail and sink pirate ships that patrol the area. Two patrol zones sit north of Brethren Waters. Every ship in each zone must be sunk before the objective ticks over, so commit to a full sweep rather than picking off single targets.

Stage 4: Return to Captain Hornigold

I managed to deal with the patrols. It's time to inform Captain Hornigold.

Stage 5: Gather the Resources to Repair the Ranger and Deliver Them to Captain Hornigold.

To fight back against Blackbeard, Brethren need to restore their ships. This will require 50 planks, 50 timber, and 50 foothills iron ingots. Once the resources are gathered, deliver them to Captain Hornigold.

Stage 6: Return to Captain Hornigold.

The resources have been delivered to the Brethren. It's time to find out whether Captain Hornigold has managed to repair his ship.

Stage 7: Defeat Stede Bonnet's Fleet

The Ranger has been launched, and the Brethren of the Coast are ready to move against Stede Bonnet, one of Blackbeard's lieutenants, who has kept the archipelago under siege. It's time to begin the counterattack. Bonnet sails the Royal James as his flagship, escorted by heavier pirate warships, a freighter, and several raiders. The Ranger fights alongside you and must survive: if the Ranger is sunk, the encounter fails and has to be restarted, so keep enemy fire split and shield the friendly hull.

Stage 8: Return to Captain Hornigold

Stede Bonnet's fleet has finally been dealt with. I need to return to Benjamin Hornigold, he promised to tell me everything he knows about the artifact in return for my help.

Strategy

The chain mixes land tracking with three separate naval fights, so a hull rated for the recommended gear level pays off. Stock Combat Repair Kits before the patrol stages and the final battle; mid-fight repairs are the difference between holding the line and losing the Ranger.

Gather the Stage 5 materials early. The repair order asks for 50 Wooden Planks, 50 Timber, and 50 Foothills Iron Ingots, all of which can be stockpiled long before you reach that objective, letting you hand them in the moment Hornigold asks.

The reward Letters of Favor feed faction standing, and finishing the quest opens better stock at the Brethren of the Coast Provisioner. The four ship-miniature decorations are cosmetic placeables for your base.
