Enemies in Romestead range from the roaming walking dead to powerful bosses that gate progression. The reanimated citizens of fallen Rome are the core threat: the dead walk at night and hunt players. Bosses are found at the end of biome progression and inside the world's named locations.

After Rome fell, its citizens were reanimated into walking husks. They hunt players, with night being the most dangerous time. Defending a settlement against hordes is a recurring challenge, which is why building defenses and lighting torches matters. See Settlements and Buildings for defensive structures.
Fallen: standard reanimated citizens; basic melee.
Burning Fallen: fiery variant; appears in raids and around volcanic spawners.
Fallen Crawler: low-profile variant.
The Early Access build contains five bosses. Defeating a biome's boss unlocks the next crafting tier, making bosses the gate between stages of progression.
Boss | Biome | Approx HP | Notable drops |
|---|---|---|---|
225 | Feathered armor set, Guardian's Eye, Talon, Feather, Coal, Copper Bar, Poisoned Arrow. | ||
500 | Cape of Pyzifax Banner, Sapphire, Tin Bar, plus a random pool (Assassin's Scroll, Fools' Gold, Gardener's Gloves, Locusta Legatus, Physician's Cloak, Scroll of Vulcan). | ||
Desert (The Eye dungeon) | 10,000 | Granite Tooth, Nail of the Cyclops, Cyclops Shard, Bonesplint, Linen, Bronze Bar, one of the Tectonic Helmet / Armor / Boots, Signet of Demo Completion. | |

Volcanic legendary (2) | TBD | Volcanic boss drops; full details unfolding in launch updates. |
A boss known as Talos is referenced in patch notes and exists as a pre-dungeon setup, but is not made available in the live build at launch.

Raids are part of the game and were included in the Early Access balance pass alongside combat, bosses, and other systems. Factions can declare war on the player via dedicated items (Desert Satyrs, Gray Satyrs, Potmen, Rats, Pyzifax). Raid objectives now only count raids started by players, not ambient horde spawns. The Burning Fallen Horde is a launch-window raid that was hotfixed to stop appearing after the first boss.
See Raids for the full raid system, Combat for combat styles useful against these threats, and Crafting and Progression for how defeating bosses advances the player.
