Enemies in Romestead range from the roaming walking dead to powerful bosses that gate progression. The reanimated citizens of fallen Rome are the core threat: the dead walk at night and hunt players. Bosses are found at the end of biome progression and inside the world's locations.
After Rome fell, its citizens were reanimated into walking husks. They hunt players, with night being the most dangerous time. Defending a settlement against hordes is a recurring challenge, which is why building defenses and lighting torches matters. See Settlements and Buildings for defensive structures.
The Early Access build contains five bosses. Defeating a biome's boss unlocks the next crafting tier, making bosses the gate between stages of progression. The Volcanic biome added for Early Access is home to two legendary foes. A boss known as the Guardian of Minerva was featured during the game's demo. Beyond named bosses, dungeons hold their own tough enemies and challenges.
Encounter | Notes |
|---|---|
Walking dead | Reanimated citizens that hunt players, especially at night. |
Biome bosses | Five total in Early Access; each gates the next crafting tier. |

Raids are part of the game and were included in the Early Access balance pass alongside combat, bosses, and other systems. See Combat for combat styles useful against these threats and Crafting and Progression for how defeating bosses advances the player.
