Pyzifax is one of the two bosses available in the Desert biome and the second confirmed boss in the standard progression of Romestead. The fight is themed around a banner-bearing warrior; Pyzifax drops the Cape of Pyzifax Banner and is the source of several Scroll of Vulcan rolls.

Pyzifax sits in a dedicated arena in the desert. Two important balance notes from the late-playtest patches:
Players outside the arena can no longer damage Pyzifax (patch 0.23.3_3). Cheese strategies that hit through walls are blocked.
Cursed Bone drops were removed from the fight in patch 0.23.3_2 to clean up his loot table.
Pyzifax arena appearance was updated for clarity in patch 0.23.3_0.
Pyzifax's 500 HP rewards sustained DPS more than burst. Bring a Bronze or Iron Gladius/Hasta and a fast bow.
Stock up on Major Health Potion and Antidote before triggering the fight.
Cook a Bakery buff dish (Bread, Libum, or Phoenix Stew once unlocked) immediately before entering.
The Mars Blessing (+10% Melee) and the Ceres Blessing (+25% Health) both shine here; pick whichever you have higher.

Pyzifax is one of two desert bosses; defeating him gates further desert progression. The Scroll of Vulcan drop ties his loot table back to the Vulcan worship route. Repeating the fight is the canonical way to roll the random drops you missed.
