The Swamp is an in-development biome of Romestead. It exists in the live Early Access build but is explicitly flagged as an unfinished biome on the official wiki, and Beartwigs has not yet positioned it within the standard progression chain.

The Swamp is divided by a river system.
It has a high spawn rate of Wraiths; the Wraith enemy was given combat fixes in patch 0.23.3_0.
Resources, materials, and points of interest currently mirror those found in other biomes; Swamp-unique drops are not yet documented.
Wild gravesites stop spawning entities after the Owl is defeated (patch 0.23.1_8), a behavior that ties Swamp atmospherics into the broader progression.
Because the Swamp is unfinished, it is currently a curiosity rather than a progression destination. Players exploring the entire map will pass through it; otherwise the standard route is Plains, then Forest, then Desert, then Volcano.
Beartwigs has mentioned internal plans for future progression biomes, building tiers, and bosses; the Swamp is the closest of those plans to live content because it already exists in some form.
