The Guardian of Minerva is the first major boss in Romestead. An owl-shaped creature nesting in the Plains biome, it gates the first crafting tier upgrade and drops the Feathered armor set. The fight is the headline of the Minerva quest chain and a rite of passage for any new settlement.

The owl nests in a specific spot in the Plains, but you have to find it. The game leaves trails:
Watch for the "You feel a presence in the skies above" chat message; this confirms the boss is nearby in your world.
Spot the owl's shadow circling overhead at certain Plains landmarks.
Find the pointing statues scattered through the Plains; once you light the campfires next to them, the statues point toward the nest.
Approach the nest and break the egg to start the encounter.
Dive Bomb: the owl swoops down from above. Dodge perpendicular to its path.
Charged Jump: a vertical leap that lands as a heavy slam.
Shockwave: a ground pulse on landing.
Lightning: ranged magical attack.
Since patch 0.20.2_5 the Owl of Minerva is susceptible to status effects, so poison arrows and DoT effects work on it.
Pre-fight: cook a Bakery dish for the buff; carry a Minor or Major Health Potion.
Bring a Wooden Bow or Copper Arcuballista for ranged windows when the owl is airborne.
Keep a Wooden Shield ready to block the Shockwave on a missed dodge.
Poisoned Arrows stack DoT; the owl's 225 HP melts under sustained poison.
In co-op, one player should kite the Dive Bomb while the others land hits between attacks.

Repeating the fight is the canonical way to complete the full Feathered set. Each kill yields one piece, randomly chosen.
Defeating the Guardian unlocks the next crafting tier through the Altar quest reward; it also gates the player into the Forest and Desert biomes. Boss music plays during the fight starting in patch 0.23.3_0, and a quest progression milestone is recorded.
