Zapdos is an Electric/Flying-type Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Pokopia, classified as the Electric Pokemon (Dex #295). It is one of the three Legendary Birds from the Kanto region, alongside Articuno and Moltres. Zapdos has the Fly specialty, allowing it to carry you directly to any Pokemon you are searching for in the Pokedex.
To befriend Zapdos, players must build the Abandoned Power Plant structure in Palette Town. This is often considered the easiest of the three Legendary Bird builds because the required materials come from well-known sources.
Zapdos cannot be encountered through standard habitats. Instead, you must build the Abandoned Power Plant, a large-scale construction project in Palette Town.
The Abandoned Power Plant Kit is located on the southern island of Palette Town, at the very top of the large mountain in the center of the island. You need to climb or use a Fly-specialty Pokemon to reach it.
Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
50 | Smelt Copper Ore from Rocky Ridges or Clefairy Doll | |
50 | Smelt Iron Ore from Rocky Ridges or Arcanine Doll | |
Sea Glass Fragment | 50 | Coastal areas and beaches |
50 | Crafted from clay | |
10 | Advanced crafting material |
The Abandoned Power Plant requires the most material types of the three bird structures (five different materials), but all of them can be sourced from well-established locations. Copper and Iron Ingots are smelted from ores gathered at Rocky Ridges. Sea Glass Fragments are collected along coastal areas, and Bricks are crafted from clay.
Specialty | Count | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Build | 1 | Required for construction |
Fly | 1 | Required for aerial components |
Crush | 1 | Required for metalwork |
Generate | 1 | Required for electrical systems |
Any | 11 | Fill remaining slots with any Pokemon |
You need 15 Pokemon total assigned to the construction project. Four must have specific specialties (Build, Fly, Crush, and Generate), while the remaining 11 can be any Pokemon. Construction takes until the next in-game day to complete.
Zapdos has the Fly specialty. If you speak to a Pokemon with the Fly specialty while using the Pokedex to search for another Pokemon, the Fly Pokemon can take you directly to that Pokemon's location. All three Legendary Birds share the Fly specialty, giving you multiple options for fast aerial travel.

Zapdos is one of the three Kanto Legendary Birds. Each bird requires building a unique structure in Palette Town:
Pokemon | Structure | Key Materials |
|---|---|---|
Freezing Chambers | ||
Abandoned Power Plant | Copper Ingot, Iron Ingot, Sea Glass Fragment, Brick, Pokemetal | |
Altar of Flame |
Building all three Legendary Bird structures unlocks the recipe for the Tidal Bell, which requires 5 Rare Pokemetal and 5 Silver Feathers to craft. The Tidal Bell is used to summon another Legendary Pokemon. For more information, see the Legendary Pokemon Guide.
Zapdos is often considered the easiest Legendary Bird to build because all five material types come from established sources. If you have been mining and crafting regularly, you may already have most of what you need.
The Generate specialty is needed for the construction crew. Make sure you have a Pokemon with Generate before starting the build.
The Abandoned Power Plant structure recreates an old electrical facility. Place it near other industrial-themed buildings for a cohesive aesthetic.
Zapdos likes electronics, so placing electronic furniture and gadgets near the Power Plant will keep its Comfort Level high.
You can only build one Legendary Bird structure per day. If you are planning to build all three, start with the one whose materials you already have.
