Overview
Progression in Outbound is driven by Signal Towers and Download Coupons. Rather than a traditional skill tree, the game gates new recipes and building modules behind blueprints that players physically acquire from structures scattered across the biomes.
Signal Towers
Signal Towers are tall structures found throughout the open world. The Outdoors alone contains 23 of them. Activating a tower costs Download Coupons and presents the player with a selection of blueprints to choose from. Once a blueprint is downloaded, the corresponding recipe or module becomes permanently available in the crafting system or building system. Signal Towers refresh their signals over time, so players can return later for additional blueprints.
Download Coupons
Download Coupons are the currency for activating Signal Towers. They are produced by the Recycler workstation, which converts Litter into coupons. Litter is scattered throughout the landscape, making exploration and cleanup a natural part of progression. Picking up Litter while walking between locations and recycling it at the van creates a steady supply of coupons.
Points of Interest
Blueprints are also found at landmarks, watchtowers, and computer stations. These Points of Interest reward exploration with recipes not available at Signal Towers, giving thorough explorers access to unique options.
Progression branches
The blueprints available span several categories:
New workstations and crafting recipes for tools, meals, and refined materials
Structural and decorative building modules for the van
Energy upgrades: improved solar panels, wind turbines, water generators, and battery capacity
Automation components for linking workstations into production chains
Advanced farming equipment and new crop types
