Overview
Sealed Artifacts are extraordinary supernatural items in Lord of Mysteries that grant their user strange and powerful abilities, always at the cost of a significant drawback. In the fiction they are central to high-Sequence Beyonder operations and tightly controlled by the orthodox Churches.
In the live game they are also a full progression system. Artifacts unlock at character level 29, sit in typed slots, take socketed materials, and can be upgraded into higher quality tiers with a dedicated currency. This page covers both: the equipment system first, then the in-fiction classification that gives the artifacts their names.
Artifact names below are given in their Chinese forms with working English glosses. The game has no published English naming.
The Launch System
The system opens in stages across the published opening schedule:
Milestone | Gate | What opens |
|---|---|---|
Sealed artifact system | Character level 29 | The attack and defence artifact categories. Only these two are exposed on day one. |
Material socketing (非凡物质嵌入) | Level 42, day two | Gold-tier Beyonder materials carrying affixes can be socketed into artifacts. |
Material aggregation (非凡物质聚合) | Day three | Players can aggregate materials themselves, trying for better stats or more affixes before socketing. |
Gold-tier artifacts | Day four | The gold artifact tier becomes obtainable. |
Artifact upgrade (封印物升级) | Level 46 | Artifacts can be levelled and re-qualitied by spending the Echo of History. |
Specialisation artifacts (特化封印物) | Day seven | A slot whose attack and defence configuration can be reset freely. |
Slot Categories
Category | Chinese name | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Attack | 攻击封印物 | Open from day one. Takes attack-type materials. |
Defence | 防御封印物 | Open from day one. Takes defence-type materials. |
Specialisation | 特化封印物 | Opens later in the first week. Its attack and defence configuration is freely reconfigurable, which makes it the flexible slot in a loadout. |
Artifact Classes
Class | Chinese name | How it is obtained |
|---|---|---|
Normal | 普通封印物 | Behave like accessories, granting a passive or an active skill. Only some are unlocked at the start, with more opening up through deeper play. |
Special | 特殊封印物 | System-unlock items whose lore comes straight from the novel canon. They unlock automatically at fixed story milestones with nothing to farm. The published example is artifact 2-049, the Antigonus family puppet held by the Church of the Evernight Goddess. |
Beyonder Materials, Knowledge and Resonance
Beyonder materials (非凡物质) are the socketable layer. Only gold-tier materials that carry affixes are eligible, and they come in attack and defence types that must match the artifact they go into. From the third day of the schedule, players can aggregate materials themselves to chase better stats or a higher affix count before committing them.
Artifact rarity | Active material affixes once socketed |
|---|---|
Purple | Four |
Gold | Five |
Materials are a progression system in their own right, with a fusion layer, published star-up odds, and a rare mutated-affix tier. They are covered in full under Extraordinary Substances.
Two stats sit above the individual artifact. Beyonder Knowledge (非凡知识), raised through story progress and through proficiency rewards from material aggregation, lifts artifact skill attributes and Beyonder Resonance efficiency at the same time, across every equipped artifact rather than one at a time. Beyonder Resonance (非凡共鸣) is defined as the extra stat a multi-affix material yields once it is embedded, so Knowledge and Resonance compound.
Upgrading with the Echo of History
From character level 46, a sealed artifact can be levelled and pushed into a higher quality tier by consuming 【历史回响】, the Echo of History. It is mainly bought on the exchange with unbound soli. Published guidance is candid that for players who do not trade, the other acquisition routes are very limited and slow, and it deliberately holds back advice on which artifact to prioritise until the relevant progression points arrive.
The Echo of History is a currency. It is one character away from the Corridor of History (「历史回廊」), which is an artifact, and the two are routinely confused. They are covered separately below.
One-Click Assist
Sealed artifact one-click assist (封印物一键辅助) auto-casts an artifact's effect as soon as it comes available, but it is dependent rather than standalone: it only functions when base skill one-click assist is already enabled. In manual mode the toggle does nothing at all, even switched on. See Combat System.
Recommendations by Role
Published launch guidance maps day-one obtainable artifacts onto the game's role taxonomy:
Role | Attack artifacts | Defence artifacts |
|---|---|---|
Tank, PvE | 公证书 (Notarial Deed) | 正义钱包 (Justice's Wallet), 绿华 (Green Splendour) |
Damage, PvE | 公证书 (Notarial Deed), 蠕动的饥饿 (Creeping Hunger) | 绿华 (Green Splendour) |
Damage, PvP | 丧钟 (Death Knell) | 荣耀之证 (Proof of Glory), 月亮纸人 (Moon Paper Figure) |
Damage, club versus club | 黄昏面具 (Twilight Mask), 蠕动的饥饿 (Creeping Hunger) | 荣耀之证 (Proof of Glory), 安静的发丝 (Quiet Strand of Hair, melee), 月亮纸人 (Moon Paper Figure) |
Healer, PvE | 幸运草 (Lucky Clover) | 正义钱包 (Justice's Wallet), 绿华 (Green Splendour) |
Healer, PvP | 幸运草 (Lucky Clover) | 荣耀之证 (Proof of Glory), 月亮纸人 (Moon Paper Figure) |
The same guidance expects most players to have collected the whole set of currently previewable attack and defence artifacts by the second week after launch, so the matrix above is a priority order rather than a long-term scarcity problem.
Named Launch Artifacts
Artifact | What it does |
|---|---|
Misfortune Puppet | Named in an official preview of the launch artifact set. Each artifact in that set pairs a combat benefit with a cost: a curse, a health drain, a cooldown penalty or a stamina drain. |
Wishing Lamp | From the same official preview set. |
蠕动的饥饿 (Creeping Hunger) | From the same set, and one of the recommended attack artifacts for damage roles in dungeons and club warfare. |
丧钟 (Death Knell) | From the same set, and the recommended attack artifact for damage roles in player versus player. |
正义钱包 (Justice's Wallet) | Damage reduction and defence that rise as the wearer's health falls. Recommended on defence for tanks and healers. |
海之言 (Sea God's Word) | Reported from a pre-launch hands-on: a Sea God blessing whose basic attacks generate wind blades, raising movement speed and a defence-break bonus. The values shown at the time were flagged as non-final and no launch numbers have been published. |
The Corridor of History
「历史回廊」, the Corridor of History, is a named sealed artifact rather than a currency, and the distinction matters because it differs from the Echo of History by a single character. The Corridor lets a player borrow power from the historical figures in their Connections roster, granting skills beyond the limits of their own Pathway and Sequence. Published examples name Old Neil attacking by spending debt, Susie healing by eating a Backlund pet biscuit, and Frank Lee summoning a mushroom that detonates for damage. Players can also unlock a transformation into a Connection's appearance. See Connections System for the roster and how it is built.
Classification Grades
In the fiction, the Churches classify Sealed Artifacts into four grades by danger, power, and sealing requirements:
Grade | Meaning |
|---|---|
Grade 3 | Low tier with manageable drawbacks. Often loaned to mid-tier Beyonder operatives for specific operations. |
Grade 2 | Meaningful power with concerning drawbacks. Tightly controlled. |
Grade 1 | High power, severe drawbacks. Restricted to senior captains and above. |
Grade 0 | The most dangerous and unfathomable artifacts. Cannot be inquired about, disseminated, described, or spied upon outside the highest Church authorities, and are sealed in the deepest basement of the relevant Holy Cathedral. |
A Sealed Artifact's power corresponds to the Sequence level and Pathway of the Beyonder Characteristic used to form it. An artifact formed from a Sequence 1 Beyonder's residue holds power approximating Sequence 1 Pathway abilities, with side effects to match. Every artifact carries a drawback, which may be physical (it drains the user), mental (it corrupts the user's sanity), conceptual (it warps reality around the user) or contractual (it demands a price for each use). The Churches catalogue drawbacks alongside abilities and rate the artifacts accordingly.
Notable Grade 0 Artifacts
Source-material references identify several named Grade 0 artifacts that surface in the campaign through cinematic moments or story-locked encounters:
Artifact | Effect |
|---|---|
0-08 Alzuhod's Pen | Applies a law of words: stories written with the pen become reality. It features in the Tingen arc as a critical late-act element. |
0-17 Concealment Angel | A descendant of the Destruction Demon Wolf. People and items that approach it disappear and reappear in a small town on Mount Hornacis. |
0-05 Magic Wishing Lamp | Grants ten wishes. The third wish kills the holder. |
These are referenced through Mr. Fool visions and Church archive scenes. Whether the player can wield any of them is gated behind story progression.
Church Control
Each orthodox Church maintains its own Sealed Artifact archive, with the Saint Selena Cathedral in Backlund hosting one of the largest collections. Older Churches, the Church of the Evernight Goddess and the Church of the Lord of Storms, tend to hold larger archives than newer ones; the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery, a relatively recent foundation, has a smaller collection.
The Machinery Hivemind, Nighthawks and Red Gloves can borrow artifacts from their Church's archive through a procedural request. Mid-tier operatives may receive Grade 3 or Grade 2 artifacts for a specific assignment, while Grade 1 and Grade 0 stay reserved for senior captains and special-mission scenarios.
Artifacts in the Story
Alongside the equipment system, artifacts reach the player through the narrative in several shapes:
Route | How it works |
|---|---|
Story setpieces | Cinematic moments during major story beats. Grade 0 artifacts in particular feature in the campaign's apex moments. |
Loaned items | A Nighthawks reputation tier granting a Grade 3 artifact for a specific mission, with the artifact returning to Church custody afterward. |
Quest-locked rewards | Rare side quests granting a permanent Grade 3 or Grade 2 artifact, typically with a drawback that shapes how it can be used. |
Crafted items | High-Sequence characters participating in Church-sanctioned artifact crafting. This has not been published as a launch-build feature; neither beta surfaced it. |
Caveats
Sealed Artifacts are never handed over lightly. In the source material every one carries a drawback, and the live game models that directly: the named launch artifacts each pair a combat benefit with a cost, whether a curse, a health drain, a cooldown penalty or a stamina drain, and some uses will push Acting or sanity checks on activation. They are powerful but punishing tools.
Balance is a moving target. Values shown during the February 2026 Crimson Test and the Gray Fog Test were explicitly flagged as non-final at the time, and neither beta's numbers describe the live client. Expect the live game's iterative patches to keep moving them.
