Overview
The Church of the Evernight Goddess is one of the orthodox Churches in Lord of Mysteries and the patron Church of the Nighthawks. The Church controls the Darkness Pathway and is one of the most prominent religious institutions in the Loen Kingdom.
Deity
The Evernight Goddess is one of the major deities of the world. The source material identifies her as one of the gods who awoke at the end of the Second Epoch and helped humanity survive the Cataclysm during the Third Epoch alongside the Eternal Blazing Sun, the Lord of Storms, the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, the God of Combat, and the Earth Mother. The Church was officially founded after the Cataclysm in the Third Epoch.
Domain and authority
The Evernight Goddess's domain centres on night, secrecy, and the protection of the faithful from supernatural harm. The Church's iconography and ritual imagery use indigo and silver as the dominant colours, the rose window pattern, and night-sky motifs. Worship services are held at night and on dates aligned with the lunar calendar.
The Church is in control of the Darkness Pathway. Beyonders of this Pathway (and certain adjacent Pathways) operate under the Church's authority, with the most prominent operative organisation being the Nighthawks.
Operations
The Church runs both a public-facing religious mission and a private Beyonder operations branch. Public services are held in cathedrals across the Loen Kingdom (including the Hill of the Sun cathedral in Tingen and Saint Selena Cathedral in Backlund). The private Beyonder branch runs the Nighthawks and the elite Red Gloves cross-jurisdictional unit.
Influence in Loen
Along with the Church of the Lord of Storms and the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery, the Church of the Evernight Goddess is one of the three Churches with the strongest influence throughout the Loen Kingdom. Loen royalty, aristocracy, and middle classes all draw a significant share of their religious participation from this Church.
Player relationship
The Church of the Evernight Goddess is the player's primary faction contact during the introductory campaign in Tingen. Joining the Nighthawks gives the player Church-aligned reputation and access to the Church's brewing-chamber resources, archive, and ritual support. The Church's Saint Selena Cathedral is a major Backlund-arc venue and a hub for Sequence advancement ceremonies above Sequence 6 for affiliated Pathways.
Players can develop reputation with multiple Churches; the system is balanced so allegiance to the Church of the Evernight Goddess does not lock the player out of other Churches' content.
