Overview

Tingen (廷根) is the starting city in Lord of Mysteries and the cultural-economic hub of the East Balam region in the Kingdom of Loen. It is a mid-tier industrial city of gas-lit cobble streets, Victorian brick tenements, neo-Gothic cathedral spires, smog-stained workshops, and back-alley occult dealers. In the source material, Tingen is where Klein Moretti, the canonical Sequence 0 Fool, begins his Beyonder journey; the game preserves the city as the introductory setting for the player's own Beyonder.
Tingen is the game's opening ground and the only city that is fully playable in the launch build. The early campaign, side quests, dungeons, faction reputation, and vendor commerce all sit inside the city and the countryside around it. The player's own story begins at the Blackthorn Security Company office, and community write-ups of the shipped build describe the building itself, 佐特兰街36号, as modelled closely on its description in the source material: an unremarkable two-storey commercial front, a reception that is deliberate camouflage, and the real work happening in the basement.
Backlund is not part of the launch build. Official copy frames it as the next stage of the story rather than a place players can reach today: as the campaign develops, players are to travel there the way Klein does. See the roadmap section on that page.
The Launch World Map
The shipped world map is built from eight named regions. Tingen Impressions is the city itself, Saint Selena Cathedral stands inside it, and the remaining six are outdoor destinations reached from the city. The English names below are working renderings; the studio has published these regions under their Chinese names only.
Region | Chinese name | What it is |
|---|---|---|
Tingen Impressions | 廷根印象 | The city region and the launch hub, laid out around Iron Cross Street and Daffodil Street |
圣赛琳娜教堂 | The Church of the Evernight Goddess seat in the city, standing on Red Moon Street | |
Hornacis Mountains | 霍纳奇斯山脉 | Snow-covered range on the kingdom's western frontier, tied to old legends of the nation of night. An official scenery piece puts it at 6,000 metres, the only scale figure the studio has published for any region |
May Manor | 五月庄园 | A rain-soaked manor behind broken stone walls. Its garden holds a twelve-player raid |
Golden Autumn Lake | 金秋湖 | A lake ringed by forest that keeps its gold colour year round. Map copy warns travelling Beyonders about mutated baboons in the area |
Water Lily Town | 睡莲小镇 | A small town whose lilies open across the water every summer |
Wisteria Corridor | 紫藤花廊 | A seasonal wisteria walk that flowers into a long purple canopy |
Ramd Castle | 拉姆德古堡 | A castle left by a lord at the end of the Fourth Epoch, now a vine-covered ruin with a reputation for the restless dead |
Day and Night
Tingen runs on a day-and-night cycle that visibly changes the city, and the studio presents this as a core exploration hook: the daytime bustle of shops, markets, and civilian crowds gives way after dark to gas-lit streets where supernatural activity and anomaly density rise. Some vendors, encounters, and investigation beats are tied to the time of day, so the same district rewards revisiting at a different hour.
Districts
Tingen's districts follow the layout established in the source material, each with its own visual identity, NPC population, and supernatural-density profile.

District | Character | What is there |
|---|---|---|
Golden Indus Borough | Affluent professional | Gentlemen's clubs, banking houses, opera halls, and the offices of senior Nighthawk operatives. Low surface anomaly density, high-tier crime when anomalies do break |
North Borough | Industrial | Foundries, the railway terminus, dock and canal access, and the Iron Cross Street Market. The most varied vendor selection in the city |
West Borough | Residential, mid-tier | Homes of clerks, shopkeepers, and most quest-giver civilians. The player's introductory residence sits here |
East Borough | Poor and crowded | Workhouses, tenements, and the seedier occult bookshops. Higher anomaly density and more frequent dynamic supernatural events |
Central Tingen | Political and religious heart | The Hill of the Sun cathedral district, city hall, the Church of the Evernight Goddess Tingen branch, and several Sequence 9 advancement chapels |
Outskirts | Rural field zones | Forested foothills and small farming villages used as field-investigation zones. Several tutorial side quests open here before the player reaches the central districts |
Community write-ups of the shipped city group it differently, naming a university quarter, Iron Cross Street, the market, a factory quarter and a church quarter, with the factory quarter rendered as a rainy, dim-lit set piece whose events centre on working life. The studio has not published a district list of its own, so the two groupings should be read as different ways of describing the same streets.
Official material also names the Tingen municipal workhouse (廷根市济贫院). It takes in the poor for stays of up to five days and puts them to work breaking stones and picking rope fibre for the duration, which is one of the clearest pieces of period texture the studio has written for the city.
Sinful Tingen
罪恶廷根 (Sinful Tingen), also written as 城市暗面 (the city's dark side), is a second layer over the same streets and it is live in the launch build. Clearing its main-line event on the first day pays gold-tier gear, and its recurring activities build a bounty meter that converts into bound gold pounds under a weekly cap, so the meter is meant to be spent rather than banked. From the fourth day the same activities also pay the upgrade materials 蓝山晶石 and 金纺石. Launch-week reports describe a nightly window after 20:00 when the layer's usual restrictions relax and a voucher good for a free outfit from the shop can drop.
Hidden Spaces
隐秘空间 (Hidden Spaces) are instanced side rooms threaded through the city and the outdoor regions, and they are puzzles rather than fights. Three of them have been shown directly: a numbered-tile logic room (恶灵之屋), a ritual stage set piece (开膛手剧院), and a coordinate-grid puzzle (失序之书). Completing a recommended Hidden Space feeds progression currencies back into the daily loop.
Landmarks
Three named Tingen landmarks carry their own pages. The February 2026 Crimson Test surfaced the same three, adapted from the source material:

Iron Cross Street Market: the open-air market in the North Borough. Beyonder ingredient vendors and a low-tier potion broker, and one of the two streets the shipped city region is built around.
Gandren Department Store: the city's largest retail destination, a multi-floor anchor in the Golden Indus Borough. Cosmetic vendors, mundane gear shops, and the city's most prominent civilian-side surface quest-giver bank.
Evildoers' Tavern: the rougher Tingen alternative to the canonical Diviners' Tavern. Player base for shadier side quests, alley-fight encounters, and Sequence 9 underworld contacts.
Faction Presence
The Nighthawks of Tingen are the most prominent supernatural law enforcement body. They operate undercover as the Blackthorn Security Company, with offices in Golden Indus and a covert lair under the cathedral district. The Nighthawks hold operational primacy in Tingen's North, West, and Golden Indus Boroughs.

The Mandated Punishers field a small auxiliary force in Tingen but mostly route through the larger Backlund detachment. The Seven Orthodox Churches each maintain at least a chapel-and-investigative-officer presence in Tingen, with the Church of the Evernight Goddess having the largest footprint.
Investigation Cases
Tingen is the setting for the campaign's introductory investigations. The February 2026 Crimson Test ran three case lines through the city:
Hill of the Sun Disturbance: cathedral-district anomaly investigation. Introduces the Acting Method and Sequence 9 ritual mechanics.
Iron Cross Smuggling Ring: tracing illegal Beyonder ingredients through the Iron Cross Street Market. Introduces vendor relationships and the brewing system.
Evildoers' Tavern Cellar: a deeper supernatural conspiracy under Tingen's underbelly. The first dungeon encounter the player runs.
The launch campaign runs on two parallel tracks through the same city. A personal line follows the player's own Beyonder, starting with the induction at Blackthorn, while a source-faithful line retells Klein Moretti's history beat for beat. See Quests and Story for the chapter structure.
Tingen in the Source Material
In the source material, Tingen is the city where Zhou Mingrui transmigrates into Klein Moretti's body, draws his first Sequence 9 Seer potion under the eye of a senior Beyonder, and joins the local Nighthawks under captain Dunn Smith. The novel's first arc is set almost entirely in Tingen and surrounding villages. The game preserves this geography but reframes it for the player's own original Beyonder character; Klein appears in-game as an NPC and the player can witness key novel scenes through the Mr. Fool visions system.
