May 2026 Update
June 22, 2026 at 08:01 AM
Updated next-update framing: June 2026 content patch shipped June 19 as v0.9.0; added cross-link to June 2026 Update
May 2026 was a hotfix-only cycle for inZOI. Five hotfixes shipped during the month (v0.8.2 on May 2, v0.8.3 on May 11, v0.8.4 on May 13, v0.8.5 on May 15, and v0.8.6 on May 28). No major content drop landed in May. The next major content update, headlining the High School expansion, was announced for June 18, 2026 and ultimately shipped one day later as v0.9.0 on June 19, 2026.
The headline event of the month was the cleanup of an infinite NPC spawning bug introduced earlier in the v0.8.0 cycle. The bug caused Zoi NPCs to spawn without limit in certain areas, clogging save files and degrading framerate. v0.8.3 stopped the spawning and a scheduled server-side cleanup ran on May 12 at 9:00 AM to clear excess NPCs from existing save files.
As of May 28, 2026, the live build is v0.8.6 (Windows PC Steam 20260527.12759.W, Mac Steam 20260527.12751.M).
Build: Windows PC Steam 20260502.12303.W / Mac Steam 20260503.12314.M. The Mac build received the same hotfix on May 4, 2026.
A short stability hotfix targeting two visible issues from the v0.8.0 release.
Area | Fix |
|---|---|
Fixed an issue where Zois appeared brighter than expected when graphics settings were set to Very Low. | |
Mods | Fixed a crash that occurred when enabling mods that reference specific asset paths. |
macOS | Adjusted the default graphics preset values used on Mac. |
As with every patch, all installed mods were auto-disabled on May 2 and had to be re-enabled through the in-game mod manager.
Build: Windows PC Steam 20260511.12456.W / Mac Steam 20260510.12448.M.
v0.8.3 was the most consequential May hotfix. It targeted four bugs, two of which were severe enough to disrupt long-running save files.
Area | Fix |
|---|---|
Fixed an issue where some Zoi NPCs spawned infinitely in certain areas, causing save-file bloat and framerate loss. | |
Portraits | Fixed an issue where a Zoi's hair appeared incorrectly in portraits on an intermittent basis. |
Deceased Interactions | Fixed an issue where the Enshrine Deceased interaction did not proceed correctly after the relevant urn was placed. |
Fixed an issue where business actions related to the massage service did not proceed correctly. |
Because the spawning bug had been accumulating extra NPCs in existing save files since v0.8.0, the hotfix itself only stopped new spawns. A separate one-time cleanup pass was scheduled for May 12, 2026 at 9:00 AM local-server time to remove the excess NPCs from affected saves. Players who had been experiencing tanked framerates from population bloat should have seen performance recover after the cleanup ran. No player action was required; the cleanup applied automatically the next time an affected save was loaded after the cleanup window.
Build: Windows PC Steam 20260512.12483.W / Mac Steam 20260512.12485.M.
A stability and simulation hotfix released two days after v0.8.3. Targets needs-decay regressions and city traffic glitches that had surfaced in the post-v0.8.3 reports.
Area | Fix |
|---|---|
Fixed an issue where some Zois' needs would not decrease properly over time. | |
Fixed issues related to city vehicle simulation errors, including stuck traffic and AI-vehicle pathing. | |
Stability | Crash and freezing fixes targeting reports from after the May 12 save-file cleanup. |
Build: Windows PC Steam 20260514.12524.W / Mac Steam 20260514.12520.M.
A short interaction-handling and stability hotfix released two days after v0.8.4. v0.8.5 reintroduces the ability to cancel certain longer-running interactions in progress and resolves a Build Mode regression where Zois could not sit on certain modded furniture pieces. The patch also bundles a small set of crash fixes targeting reports from the post-cleanup hotfix window.
Area | Fix |
|---|---|
Interaction cancellation | Improved the ability to immediately cancel certain interactions mid-action. Interactions such as Hack Bank and Take a Bath can now be cancelled immediately while in progress. |
Fixed an issue where the 'Sit' interaction was not working on certain mod furniture pieces. | |
Stability | Resolved several crash issues affecting a small number of save files. |
Build: Windows PC Steam 20260527.12759.W / Mac Steam 20260527.12751.M.
A stability hotfix released roughly two weeks after v0.8.5, and the final patch of the May cycle. It rebalanced the Hunger need, fixed a Build Studio loading hang, restored the effect of the Road Traffic Density setting that had been doing nothing, and bundled crash fixes.
Area | Fix |
|---|---|
Gameplay | Improved Hunger need balance. |
Build Studio | Fixed an intermittent infinite loading issue when entering Build Studio. |
Vehicles | Fixed an issue where changes to the Road Traffic Density setting in Simulation Options had no noticeable effect on vehicle count, and improved city vehicle simulation errors. |
Build Mode (Mac only) | Fixed an issue where furniture and walls could not be properly deleted under certain steps. |
Graphics | Fixed an issue where the lobby intermittently appeared completely white under certain option settings. |
Crashes | Fixed several crash issues. |
As with every patch, all installed mods were auto-disabled on May 28 and had to be re-enabled through the in-game mod manager.
Each of the four May hotfixes auto-disabled all installed mods on patch day. Players had to re-enable mods through the in-game mod manager after each hotfix. The auto-disable policy continues unchanged from earlier patches and applies to every Early Access build through the 1.0 launch window.

Next major update | Shipped June 19, 2026 as v0.9.0 (active High School plus foundational systems) |
Update: the June content patch shipped on June 19, 2026 as v0.9.0, the High School update. It delivered the active high school system previewed below, along with a clothing store business, expanded romance and baby systems, and large Create a Zoi and Build Mode additions. The dev messages described in this section reflect what was confirmed during May, ahead of that release.
Director Hyungjun "Kjun" Kim's May 9 dev message confirmed that the June 2026 update would headline PlayStation 5 foundational features rather than the High School expansion previewed in April. June targets include DualSense-powered interactions (microphone-based birthday candle blowing, a fishing mini-game leveraging adaptive triggers), a customizable ring menu for console and PC, video streaming from local files (with adjustable audio, video speed, and camera angles; direct streaming from media companies remains unavailable due to licensing), and enhanced physics including cause-and-effect reactions such as water-spill slip and improved ragdoll responses.
The High School expansion previewed by Kjun in his April 12 forum post (full classrooms, gym, cafeteria, band room, art room, prom, non-height-changing high heels) did not ship in May. The expanded Schools content remains in development. The rabbit-hole school implementation present in v0.8.x is unchanged from earlier patches.
Producer Hyungjun "Kjun" Kim's May 24, 2026 development diary confirmed that the June 2026 update will headline an active high school system alongside the foundational systems previewed in the May 9 message. Players will be able to follow children and adolescents to school, enroll them in extracurricular activities, and experience school-related gameplay and social dynamics for the first time, replacing the rabbit-hole school implementation in v0.8.x.
Academic activities: classroom interactions across subjects, presentation skills that affect grades and project outcomes, art class with instructor guidance, science lab classes with experiments, a cafeteria lunch system with freely available meal options
Sports and extracurriculars: cheerleading with skill progression, American football with practice and gameplay on a dedicated field, soccer activities, arcade games
School events: prom in a decorated auditorium, graduation ceremony with stage-walking, diploma acceptance, handshakes, and speeches; sports games and competitions
Create-a-Zoi assets: cheerleading, football, and soccer uniforms; graduation caps and gowns; crime masks; new tights and stockings
Social features: new couch interactions (chatting, cuddling, showing items), new phone calls and chance card pop-ups, new social outings and events
Auditorium transformations whose decorations change based on event type (sports, prom, graduation)
Kjun's diary emphasized that community feedback would continue to drive refinements after launch. The original April 12 preview of the school setting (full classrooms, gym, cafeteria, band room, art room, prom, non-height-changing high heels) is largely reflected in the May 24 update preview, with the addition of the cheerleading and football progression systems.
Separately, Kjun's May 15, 2026 development diary confirmed that the PlayStation 5 version of inZOI is "currently planned to launch on PlayStation 5 in the first half of 2027." The team explicitly stated they will not simply port the PC version: the interface is being redesigned around the DualSense controller with on-screen controls and radial menus, the UI is being tuned for television screens viewed at greater distances, screen transitions are being reworked, and performance is being optimized for the PS5's fixed hardware while preserving the large open cities and autonomous Zois. Unlike the PC's Early Access model, the team intends to deliver a polished and complete experience from day one on PlayStation 5 without a large-scale public beta. Gameplay demonstration videos will be released to gather feedback before launch.
