Content update (2026-02-19)
On December 26, 2025, Director Hyungjun "Kjun" Kim published the Fundamentals First & 2026 Roadmap letter on the official inZOI forums and Steam. A follow-up titled Beyond the Fundamentals — 2026 Roadmap Part 2 was posted on January 2, 2026. Together, these two documents outline KRAFTON's plans for inZOI across 2026. The core philosophy is to add new content each quarter during the first half of the year, while shifting greater emphasis toward Fundamentals First — strengthening the game's core experience in jobs, building, and simulation depth — during the second half. A dedicated internal team works on the "Beyond" features (modding, multiplayer, AI NPCs, Canvastown) alongside the core development team handling quarterly content drops.
KRAFTON is targeting approximately seven to eight free updates throughout the year. All content is included at no extra cost for Early Access owners. The scope of each quarter gradually narrows toward the latter half of the year as more resources shift to fundamental improvements. KRAFTON has repeatedly stressed that all timelines and feature scopes may shift depending on development progress.
The first quarter focuses heavily on expanding the career system, deepening social interactions, and introducing new lifestyle features:
Enhanced job system: Zois can hold multiple jobs simultaneously, attend job interviews, work remotely from home, and receive performance evaluations. New career tracks include beauty-related roles with appearance customization gameplay and a police career with patrol cars and criminal search mechanics.
Competitive interactions: A new system where interactions determine a winner and loser, adding stakes to social encounters.
Rivals: Zois can develop adversarial relationships with other characters who compete toward the same goals, creating tension and drama in social dynamics.
Reputation system: A local community reputation mechanic where Zois earn and lose reputation based on their actions, affecting how other Zois treat them.
High school campus properties: Functional school lots appear in the city for the first time, giving teenage Zois a proper educational environment.
Flower farming and arranging: A new hobby that lets Zois grow flowers, harvest them, and create arrangements — tying into the existing business system for potential florist shops.
Memory system: Zois form lasting memories tied to significant life events, including trauma and milestone moments. These memories influence mood and behavior over time.
Fate Engine and calendar: A birthday calendar system integrated with the new Fate Engine framework, alongside age adjustment options for more control over how quickly Zois age through their life stages.
Emotional state overview: A new UI element providing an at-a-glance view of a Zoi's current emotional state.
Contact exchange and blocking: Zois can exchange contact information when they meet, plus a wall messaging system. Zois can also block others they want to avoid.
Childcare-specific urges: New urge types related to caring for babies and toddlers, expanding family gameplay.
Architecture expansions: New European architectural styles, furnishings, and clothing alongside Hanok (traditional Korean) architecture with Hanbok outfits, all available in Build Mode.
Multitasking and group actions: Improved behavior systems for Zois performing multiple activities simultaneously and acting as a group.
Engine optimization: Under-the-hood graphics improvements to boost frame rates, improve rendering quality, and reduce system load.
The second quarter introduces creative and freelance career paths alongside performance content and themed environments:
Freelance careers: Writing, game development, photography, and blogging are added as self-directed career options that Zois can pursue from home.
Taxi driver and elderly careers: New career tracks designed for broader age ranges, including jobs specifically suited to elder Zois.
Prison properties: Functional prison lots with detailed facilities including a yard, library, workshops, lounge, cafeteria, showers, and a visitation area — expanding the consequences of the criminal system introduced in v0.5.0.
Voice customization: Zois gain adjustable voice parameters, giving players more control over how their characters sound.
K-pop and stage performance content: New stages, themed environments, idol styling options, choreographed dance motions, and superstar events for Zois pursuing the Idol career. This builds on the existing Adam Entertainment career path in Dowon.
Themed environments: New settings including neon slums and fantasy environments that add visual variety to the world.
Life aspiration enhancements: Expanded Desired Life system with new aspirations and goals.
Reward system expansion: Ranks and tiers added to existing systems, giving players longer-term progression goals.
New urges and missions: Additional urge types and mission content to diversify daily gameplay.
The third quarter broadens career options available to younger Zois and adds journaling:
Part-time jobs and teenage careers: Teenagers can take on part-time work, earning Meow and building skills before entering the full workforce. Expanded career availability across all age groups.
Event Memory and Diary system: An expanded version of the memory system that includes a diary where Zois record their experiences. Events are logged with emotional context, creating a readable history of a Zoi's life.
Curved wall support: Build Mode gains the ability to create curved walls for windows, walls, and pools, opening up architectural possibilities that were previously impossible.
Value system enhancements: Deeper personality modeling affecting how Zois perceive and respond to the world around them.
The final quarter addresses long-requested building features. The scope is deliberately narrower as more development resources shift to fundamental improvements:
Basement construction: Zois can build underground levels beneath their homes, adding a new dimension to house design in Build Mode.
Terrain editing: Still in the development phase as of the roadmap announcement, terrain editing would let players modify the landscape around their lots — raising hills, flattening ground, and reshaping the environment.
Wall decoration modules: Interior and exterior wall decoration options expanded with modular components for more creative freedom.
Content enhancements: Additional gameplay content and game balance adjustments.
The multiplayer system is one of the most ambitious components of the 2026 roadmap. It runs on a separate development track with its own phased milestones. The team describes the online frontier for life simulation games as "largely uncharted" and is navigating technical hurdles through rigorous testing. inZOI Online is being developed while continuously migrating and matching the base game to ensure feature parity. See the Multiplayer and Canvas article for full details.
Key milestones include:
January 2026: Persistent, account-linked Zoi characters with save-and-resume functionality for hosted sessions.
February 2026: Web-based Main, Plaza, and Lobby pages with online chat channels and updated "My Zoi" social features.
March 2026: Personal house decoration with persistent cloud saves, plus multiplayer house visits where players can invite others inside.
June 2026: Host tools for rule adjustment and participant management, plus official mod compatibility for multiplayer sessions.
October 2026: Large-scale multiplayer with dedicated servers supporting hundreds to thousands of concurrent players for exploration and social interaction.
Canvastown is a brand-new, compact world designed from the ground up to run smoothly on lower-specification hardware. It is being built on the Fate Engine, a new engine layer that aims to reduce system requirements and optimize PC resource usage. If the Fate Engine proves successful in Canvastown, KRAFTON plans to port it to the existing cities — Dowon, Bliss Bay, and Cahaya — to improve performance across the board.
The design philosophy behind Canvastown is "shared narratives" — players capture interesting life scenarios they have experienced and let others enter that life to play it themselves. The world has a smaller footprint than existing cities, with the surrounding neighborhood becoming part of the player's interactive space.
The Canvastown timeline is as follows:
March 2026: Fate Engine and Canvastown integration begins.
May 2026: Fate Engine capabilities ported to existing metropolitan areas. Canvas update and download features are added.
June 2026: Canvastown #1 launches — a boutique village featuring approximately 40 customizable lots.
October 2026: Canvastown #2 launches — expanded to roughly 50 lots with a pastoral, rural countryside aesthetic.
Modding support evolves throughout 2026 in a series of progressive releases. The team is creating wizard-style tools to simplify modding given Unreal Engine's complexity, while advancing toward script-based modding for deeper customization:
January 2026: JSON-based asset structure in the ModKit for more accessible mod definitions, plus a native in-game mod management interface.
March 2026: Expanded CAZ Wizard supporting accessories, animations, and facial modifications with MetaHuman guides. Enhanced project management with asset merging. Revamped Sound Wizard for audio replacement. "Hot-swapping" for graphical assets during gameplay with immediate changes applied.
June 2026: Vehicle customization tools. Migration to Unreal Engine 5.6. Content template modding testing (e.g., farming systems). CLO virtual fashion platform integration research. Preparation for PS5 and Mac mod support, though availability may be restricted by platform policies and partnerships.
October 2026: Multiplayer-compatible mods pilot testing. AI-powered data modding assistant research.
December 2026: Full Lua script modding support, enabling scripted behavior modifications and deeper gameplay mods. Script modding was deliberately delayed to December to support the transition to Lua and ensure stability.
In August 2025, KRAFTON officially announced that inZOI is coming to PlayStation 5 in H1 2026 (the first half of the year). The official @PlayinZOI account posted: "We're excited to announce that inZOI is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 in 2026. Our team is working hard to bring you the best possible experience on PS5." The PS5 version will be fully optimized for the console hardware. An Xbox release is under consideration but has not been confirmed as of February 2026. Cross-play between PC and console has also not been confirmed.
Pets are among the most requested features in the inZOI community. The official @PlayinZOI social media account teased the feature with an image showing a cat tree and paw prints alongside the words "coming soon." The original March 2025 roadmap included an August update for Kucingku Cat Island — using the Malay and Indonesian word for "My Cat" — which was ultimately released as the Cahaya / Island Getaway DLC in August 2025. Pets were marked as a high priority for future updates during a February 2025 AMA on the official Discord server. All updates during Early Access are free, in contrast to competitor life simulation games that charge for pet expansion packs.
Beyond the quarterly content, the Part 2 roadmap letter outlines several ongoing priorities that the development team is addressing across the full year:
Per-family story progression: Options with adjustable intensity toggles so players can control how dramatically events unfold for each household.
Birthday management system: Planned for implementation before inZOI's first anniversary in March 2026.
Skill systems and autonomy: Enhanced achievement tracking, granular autonomy controls for risky behaviors, and staged expansion of fine-tuned interaction controls.
NPC and daily life: Focus on family interactions, children, and babies. Improved autonomous personality-driven behavior and realistic daily routines for non-player Zois.
Beyond the officially confirmed features, the inZOI community has been vocal about additional wants that have not yet appeared on the roadmap:
Dogs and other animal species beyond cats
Full 1.0 release timeline and what defines "leaving Early Access"
More city environments beyond Dowon, Bliss Bay, Cahaya, and Canvastown
Weather system improvements (storms, snow buildup, seasonal effects)
Larger household sizes beyond the current cap
More detailed baby and toddler gameplay mechanics
Director Kjun has been responsive to community feedback through the official inZOI forums and developer video diaries, with February 2026 updates already addressing animation smoothing and expanded baby features based on player requests.
