The Diviner is one of the five Beginner classes in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Nintendo's dedicated presentation gave it a single line of introduction, that Diviners can wield magic, and the class carries that job further than the sentence suggests: it trains both schools of Magic at once and still equips a physical weapon.
Field | Value |
|---|---|
Tier | Beginner |
Unit type | Infantry |
Proficiencies | Reason, Faith |
Weapons wielded | Sword, Axe, Gauntlet, Reason, Faith |
Movement | 4 |
Class mastery skill | Magic Basics |
The proficiency list and the movement value were read off the class screens in pre-launch footage. The blanks elsewhere on this page are fields that have not been filled in, not zeroes.
Two magic proficiencies on a Beginner class is the unusual part. Reason is the attacking school and Faith covers healing and support, so a Diviner can damage an enemy on one turn and patch up an ally on the next without changing class. The published Japanese class description makes the same point, describing a magic user who at times heals allies and at times fights enemies, and singling the class out for high Magic. No English class description has appeared yet.
The weapon list runs wider than the proficiency list. A Diviner can equip a sword, an axe and gauntlets alongside its two spell schools, which gives it something to do when an enemy closes to melee range. It gains no proficiency bonus with those weapons, so the physical option is a fallback rather than a build.
Because magic is the answer to heavily armoured foes in this game, a Diviner is the earliest counter a team has to the armoured classes. Weapons covers how the six weapon types divide up, including the split between the black, dark and white schools and the Reason and Faith proficiency names.
Only one Diviner class skill has been named. Mastering the class unlocks Magic Basics, reported to grant Magic and Resistance +1. The skill also turns up on unit skill lists outside the class itself: pre-launch combat screens show it on Hong Hua and on Anatolia, which is what mastery skills do once a unit has earned them.
The three Advanced classes with published data blocks each list two innate skills and one mastery skill. No innate skill has been shown for the Diviner, so whether the Beginner tier follows the same pattern is unknown.
The class has more attested users than any other Beginner class. The table records where each was seen, not a locked assignment, since units move between classes through Certification Exams.

Diviners fight on the other side too. One account of Sirocco's showcase describes a Lechner soldier facing him as a Diviner, casting thunder magic.
Requirements for Beginner-tier exams have not been shown. The only published figures are for the Advanced tier, where three classes list weapon and mount letter grades and a reported gate of Renown level 8 with a recommended character level of 35. One preview puts the unlock for Specialty-tier exams at Renown level 4. Nothing comparable has been published for the Beginner tier, which is where most units start.
The magic ladder above the Diviner runs through Shaman and Priest on the Specialty tier and reaches the Ovate, the Bishop, the War Monk and the Guardian on the Advanced tier. All of those build on Reason or Faith, so training the two schools here feeds every one of them.
No base stats, growth rates or stat modifiers have been published for the Diviner in this game. The movement value above is the only figure available, and every stat template in circulation for the class is empty. Stat tables that carry this class name elsewhere belong to other titles and do not describe this one. See Classes for the wider tier structure.
The two schools it trains at once are covered on Magic. For the Beginner tier it belongs to, see Classes, and for how a unit leaves that tier, see Certification Exams.
