List of Visions
September 12, 2026 at 07:59 AM
Replaced the inferred-pairing framing throughout with the sixteen-slot entry mapping now published by Square Enix, corrected the legacy artwork count from ten slots to sixteen, and dated the roster counts to 12 September 2026
Final Fantasy Resonance includes 26 Visions in total, according to the producer: 16 legacy heroes from the mainline series, one for each numbered title from FINAL FANTASY I through XVI, and ten more tied to this game's own story. FINAL FANTASY XI is represented by Shantotto and FINAL FANTASY XIV by Y'shtola. As of 12 September 2026, 25 of the 26 have been individually named: every legacy slot is filled, and nine of the ten story-side Visions have names. Square Enix now publishes the entry pairing for all sixteen legacy slots itself, so none of them rests on inference. One Vision from this game's own cast was still unrevealed on that date, and this page lists no guesses about it.
Eleven Visions were individually named during the announcement period: eight legacy heroes and three story-side characters. The July and August 2026 additions are listed further down this page. Official role words and element profiles appear below where Square Enix has provided them.
Vision | Origin | Role / Elements | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
FINAL FANTASY | Earth, lightning, and light attacks; abilities that protect allies | Official bio calls him a warrior of light chosen by the crystal | |
FINAL FANTASY VI | Commando; fire, water, and ice magic with consistently high damage | Listed under her Japanese name Tina on the official Japanese character page | |
FINAL FANTASY VII | Lightning and water attacks; abilities focused on critical damage | Former SOLDIER 1st Class; keeps his signature Cross-slash | |
FINAL FANTASY IX | Steals items; saps enemy vitality and speed while augmenting his own abilities | Named at announcement; detailed as a member of Tantalus in July 2026 | |
FINAL FANTASY X | Hastes the party, then staggers foes with wind and water physical attacks | Named at announcement; detailed as a blitzball player from Zanarkand in July 2026 | |
FINAL FANTASY XI | Commando; repeated lightning, water, and dark casts | Leads the Federation of Windurst's Senate; one of the Three Magi | |
FINAL FANTASY XIV | Fire and ice stagger magic plus HP restoration | A Miqo'te met in La Noscea; grows stronger as more varieties of magic are used | |
FINAL FANTASY XVI | Staggers enemies and deals massive damage with Fire and Wind physical attacks | The firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria; his first kit was published on August 24, 2026 | |
Story | Defender; ice and water attacks with high durability | Active-service Grandshelt knight, a peer of Rain and Lasswell | |
Story | White mage; recovery, defensive, and status-cure magic | Once fought in a war in another world; Resonance named Healing Wind in preview coverage | |
Story | Black mage; fire, ice, and lightning magic suited to staggering | Once fought in a war in another world |
Role words such as Commando and Defender come from the official English bios. Every entry in that table now carries a role or an element profile: the July and August 2026 releases filled in the ones that were blank at announcement.
Every one of the sixteen legacy slots now has a named representative, and Square Enix publishes the pairings itself: the official Japanese character page carries a sixteen-slot sprite gallery in which each slot is captioned with an entry title and a character name, running from FINAL FANTASY through FINAL FANTASY XVI. As of 12 September 2026 that gallery holds exactly sixteen slots and no more. The August 24, 2026 information release closed the last three at once with Firion, Vaan and Lightning, and each of those profiles names the character's home realm, which identifies the entry without guesswork: Firion moves against the emperor of Palamecia, Vaan is an orphan of the former Kingdom of Dalmasca, and Lightning serves in Cocoon's Guardian Corps. The same release anchored Noctis to Lucis and Clive to Rosaria.
Entry | Vision | What the Official Materials Say |

FINAL FANTASY II | Officially described as a young man who joins the rebel army, seeking to take down the emperor of Palamecia. | |
FINAL FANTASY III | His profile names no realm, but the official character page captions his sprite FINAL FANTASY III. | |
FINAL FANTASY IV | Officially described as the former captain of the Red Wings, the empire's airship fleet. | |
FINAL FANTASY V | Officially described as travelling on his chocobo Boko. | |
FINAL FANTASY VI | Listed under her Japanese name Tina on the official Japanese character page. | |

FINAL FANTASY IX | Officially described as a member of Tantalus. | |
FINAL FANTASY X | Officially described as a blitzball player from Zanarkand. | |

FINAL FANTASY XIII | Officially described as a member of Cocoon's Guardian Corps. | |
FINAL FANTASY XIV | Named by the producer as this entry's representative, captioned FINAL FANTASY XIV on the official character page, and met in La Noscea. | |
FINAL FANTASY XV | Officially described as the crown prince of Lucis. | |
FINAL FANTASY XVI | Officially described as the firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria. |
Onion Knight was the last pairing to be said outright. His profile describes a young man whose life changed when a simple excursion led him to a crystal that granted him his calling as a warrior of light, and it names no kingdom, so for a time FINAL FANTASY III followed only from the producer's structure and from the character being that entry's standard representative. That gap is now closed. The official character page's gallery captions his sprite with the entry title directly, which means every one of the sixteen pairings in the table above is published rather than inferred, and the reasoning this page used to carry is no longer load-bearing.
Legacy heroes are unlocked at vision crystal sanctums scattered across the world, where you revisit stories from the original games. Story-side Visions come from character events, side quests, and bonds. Every Vision is earnable in-game, with no DLC. Each one also powers its own Resonance attack with a unique cinematic; see Resonance Attacks. Ability inheritance across Visions is covered at Abilities and Mastery.
Two systems sit on top of the roster and are easy to confuse with each other. Vision Awakening spends magicite to deepen a Vision you already hold, granting stronger abilities along with higher-level skills and magic across three stages, each stage demanding higher-grade magicite. Limit Bursts belong to the party members rather than to the Visions: a character fills a limit gauge by staggering an enemy or by taking damage, then spends it on a powerful attack or on a boon that helps for the rest of the fight. Neither one replaces a Resonance attack, which still requires every enemy on the field to be staggered in the same turn.
Square Enix detailed six more Visions in the July 16, 2026 information release: one from this game's own cast and five legacy heroes. Each entry below records only what that release says about the character's role in this game.
Vision | Origin | Role in Resonance |
|---|---|---|
This game's cast | A weaponsmith as adept at wielding weapons as forging them; lowers enemy defenses with her Pilebunker, and forges weapons for the party from adamantite. | |
FINAL FANTASY IV | Former captain of the Red Wings, the empire's airship fleet. Light and dark attacks; can also defend and heal. | |
FINAL FANTASY V | Travels on his chocobo Boko. Wields a sword imbued with fire and ice magic; staggers foes with relative ease. | |
FINAL FANTASY VIII | A candidate for SeeD. The more he uses standard attacks in a battle, the more damage they deal. | |
FINAL FANTASY IX | A member of Tantalus. Steals items, and saps enemy vitality and speed while augmenting his own abilities. | |
FINAL FANTASY X | A blitzball player from Zanarkand. Hastes the party, then staggers foes with wind and water attacks. |
Aileen, Cecil, Bartz, and Squall are new names in that release. Zidane and Tidus had already been named at announcement and gained their first kit details there. The official site publishes legacy Vision artwork for all sixteen slots, each captioned with the numbered entry it represents.
Two more legacy heroes were individually named earlier in August 2026. Both arrived with the same wording: battle alongside the character, resonate with his Vision within the Sanctum of Light, and unleash his abilities in combat. Nothing else was published about either one at the time, and their kits followed in the August 24 information release.
Vision | Named | What Square Enix has said |
|---|---|---|
August 14, 2026 | Confirmed as a Vision obtained by resonating with it at a Sanctum of Light. The crown prince of Lucis, he supplements Ice and Lightning spells with an onslaught of Light physical attacks. | |
August 17, 2026 | Confirmed as a Vision obtained by resonating with it at a Sanctum of Light. His Fire, Wind and Earth magic deals more damage the fuller the limit gauge is. |
The realm named in Noctis's later profile, Lucis, already settled his entry as FINAL FANTASY XV without leaning on the producer's structural statement. Onion Knight's profile names no realm, so his pairing waited on the official character page's gallery, which captions his sprite FINAL FANTASY III.
August 24, 2026 brought the largest Vision drop since the announcement. It named the last three legacy representatives, published first kits for three legacy heroes who had been named without detail, and introduced five more Visions drawn from this game's own cast.
Vision | Origin | Role / Elements | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
FINAL FANTASY II | Excels at staggering enemies with Wind, Lightning and Light physical attacks | A young man who joins the rebel army, seeking to take down the emperor of Palamecia | |
FINAL FANTASY XII | Fire and Earth physical attacks; staggering an enemy can also trigger a chance effect on the turn order | An orphan from the former Kingdom of Dalmasca. Official English and Japanese material describe the turn-order effect differently, so this page records only the part both agree on | |
FINAL FANTASY XIII | Excels at staggering enemies, and gains abilities that strengthen that power further | A member of Cocoon's Guardian Corps | |
FINAL FANTASY XVI | Staggers enemies and deals massive damage with Fire and Wind physical attacks | The firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria; his inclusion was confirmed at announcement, but this was his first kit | |
FINAL FANTASY XV | Ice and Lightning spells backed by an onslaught of Light physical attacks | The crown prince of Lucis, a kingdom with modern advancements achieved through the power of the Crystal | |
FINAL FANTASY III | Fire, Wind and Earth magic that deals more damage the fuller the limit gauge is | A young man whose life changed when an excursion led him to a crystal. His profile names no realm; the official character page supplies the entry pairing |
Five Visions from this game's own cast landed in the same release. Several of them are tied to the two nations revealed alongside them, the Zoldaad Empire and Mysidia.
Vision | Origin | Role / Elements | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
This game's cast | Fights with Fire-aspected guns; an ability occasionally lets her repeat attacks | A maid in service to the Zoldaad Empire's Crown Prince | |
This game's cast | Water and Earth attacks; can obtain an array of abilities granting exceptional strength and speed | A seasoned mercenary monster hunter | |
This game's cast | Draws the enmity of all enemies at the start of battle, becoming the party's shield | An imperial general who often joins the fray himself, clad in the most resilient suit of armor | |
This game's cast | Dark magic, plus spells that inflict status ailments such as Poison and Silence | A black mage with deep ties to Sakura | |
This game's cast | A dedicated healer who restores allies' HP and dispels status ailments | A talented frontier-born white mage chosen by Sakura to be her pupil |
With those additions the individually named total reaches 25 of the 26 Visions: all sixteen legacy heroes, plus Charlotte, Leah, Tronn, Aileen, Amelia, Camille, Wilhelm, Victoria and Ayaka from this game's own cast. One story-side Vision had still not been revealed as of 12 September 2026, and it joins this page the day Square Enix names it.
