Alongside its main scenario, Final Fantasy Resonance carries a slate of optional quests. The director put the count at around 30 to 40, depending on how they are tallied, and most of them are character stories.
Side quests are all-new scenarios written for this game rather than content carried over. They spotlight Rain and the other main characters as well as the supporting cast drawn from the source game; see Relationship with Final Fantasy Brave Exvius for how the rebuild treats that material. Many of the episodes fill in pasts and relationships among the cast. The director described the majority as character-focused, and the producer added that puzzle-style quests and minigames round out the variety.
Completing a side quest grants rewards tied to the featured character. Side quests also gate real power: some Visions are earned by clearing sub-quests that open up as the story progresses, and espers, the game's summons, are unlocked through story progress and side quests as well.
Optional content extends past quests into a dedicated endgame layer with the wandering swordmaster Gilgamesh, a Colosseum, and more; see Side Content and Endgame. Developer playtime estimates bracket the difference: 30 to 40 hours covers the main scenario, while engaging broadly with the optional layer pushes a run to 60 to 80 hours.
