Awakening is the magicite-driven upgrade track for Visions. Square Enix detailed it on August 24, 2026. Magicite found along the journey awakens a Vision, granting it stronger abilities along with higher-level skills and magic. Magicite is limited, so which Visions to awaken is a decision the player makes rather than something every Vision eventually receives.
What Awakening Grants
An awakened Vision gains stronger abilities plus higher-level skills and magic. Awakening runs in three stages, and each stage calls for higher-grade magicite to draw out greater power. The September 28, 2026 Japanese system video frames it from the Vision's side: a newly obtained Vision cannot yet draw out all of its power, and awakening it with magicite unlocks higher-tier techniques and magic. What separates one stage from the next in numbers has not been published as of October 11, 2026.

Where Magicite Comes From
Magicite has three confirmed in-world sources. Dungeons hold it inside treasure chests, certain powerful monsters award it when defeated, and an official Japanese system video published on September 28, 2026 adds quest rewards. Those monsters have a name: Mighty Foes preside over the caverns dotted across the land, and defeating them grants magicite. That spreads the supply across cavern hunting, dungeon exploration and quests.

Awakening Is Not Bond Growth
Three separate tracks strengthen a Vision, and each runs on a different input. Awakening spends magicite. Affinity grows by fighting battles with the Vision equipped, unlocking more of that Vision's abilities as it rises. Mastery Ranks accumulate from mastery points earned in battle and pay out permanent stat boosts and further equippable abilities. The affinity and mastery layers are documented at Abilities and Mastery.
Track | What Advances It | What It Unlocks |
|---|---|---|
Awakening | Spending magicite, in three stages | Stronger abilities, plus higher-level skills and magic |
Affinity with a Vision | Fighting battles with that Vision equipped | More of that Vision's abilities |
Mastery Rank | Mastery points earned in battle | Permanent stat boosts and equippable abilities; see Abilities and Mastery |
The Mastery Ring from the Digital Deluxe item pack boosts affinity with Visions while equipped, so it speeds the bond track and leaves the magicite bill untouched.
Not Yet Detailed
No magicite grades have been named beyond the Magicite Shard that ships with the pre-order pack, and nothing published through October 11, 2026 changes that, the September English breakdown of the battle system and the free demo's own materials included. As of that date Square Enix has not published how much magicite each stage costs, what each stage adds in numbers, whether an awakening can be undone or reassigned, or whether all 26 Visions can be awakened. For the full roster, see List of Visions.
