Rain is the main protagonist of Final Fantasy Resonance. A knight of the Kingdom of Grandshelt, he is exceptionally skilled and was entrusted with command of an airship squadron at a young age. Clifford Chapin voices him in English and Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese.
The official synopsis opens on Rain receiving a royal decree: investigate the Earth Shrine, where the magical barrier protecting it has waned, and determine the cause. He takes the mission together with Lasswell, his childhood friend and deputy commander. The investigation ends in disaster. In the innermost chamber of the shrine the two are overwhelmed by a mysterious man clad in black armor, the Earth Crystal is shattered before their eyes, their airship is wrecked, and their comrades fall.
Rain narrowly survives and returns to find Grandshelt itself under attack by the same man, Veritas of the Dark. The knights rescue the king but suffer a second crushing defeat. To protect the remaining Crystals scattered across the world, Rain sets out in pursuit of Veritas, joined by Lasswell and by Fina, the mysterious girl they met in Grandshelt. The premise is covered in full at Story and Setting.
Official material describes Rain as bright, earnest, and deeply principled, a knight trusted by many. He refuses to choose one side over another even in dire situations and stays determined to protect everyone. That forward drive has a flip side. Preview coverage of the opening chapter describes him as the cheerful, charging half of the lead duo, with the calmer Lasswell stepping in when Rain's impulses run ahead of his judgment. The official biographies make the same point: Lasswell, who was raised by Rain's own family, often gets dragged along by Rain's impulsive nature.
Rain holds complicated feelings toward his father, Raegen, a knight who left the family behind and disappeared without a trace. Official material says nothing more about Raegen than that. Hands-on previews note how differently the two leads treat the subject: Rain speaks of his father dismissively, while Lasswell respects Raegen as a knight, and the first chapter sets that difference up as an ongoing thread.
System descriptions use Rain as the example party member. He and his allies equip Visions, crystallized essences of other characters, to gain stats, skills, and magic in battle, so the vision Rain carries shapes the role he plays in a fight.
Rain is voiced by Clifford Chapin in English and Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese. The developers have said the main scenario is fully voiced. The rest of the announced cast and their voice actors are listed at Characters.
