Dungeons and Instances
September 7, 2026 at 12:51 AM
Named the two difficulty tiers as Normal and Normal Plus and recorded that ten instances shipped at launch with two more arriving in July
Instances are the highest-intensity content in Farever. The term is the game's official umbrella label for dedicated, demanding encounters that test combat, teamwork, and mastery. Each instance is a condensed slice of what a sub-region has to offer, featuring stronger versions of creatures you have already met out in the world.
Instances run for parties of one to four players, so every one of them can be cleared solo or with a full group. The small party cap is a deliberate design choice: it lets the developers craft tighter, more carefully tuned encounters than a large-scale raid would allow.

There are two kinds of instance:
Dungeons: multi-room areas you explore and clear from start to finish.
Boss lairs: a single dangerous boss waiting in its own lair. These fights are multi-phase and built entirely around one opponent.
Instances come in difficulty tiers. Two shipped with the game: Normal, which runs the instance at its own level, and Normal Plus, which scales it to the level cap instead. That is why the harder tier was re-tuned when the Nightling Update lifted the cap to 25; it follows the ceiling rather than sitting at a fixed number. Clearing the harder tier is where the strongest gear comes from. A third tier, Heroic, has been announced for later in 2026 and is meant to sit clearly above both of the current ones, with new attacks for enemies and its own rewards.
Instances give the strongest loot in the game. Completing one is a reliable way to earn unique gear and weapons that outclass what you find in the open world, and the rewards can come either as finished equipment or as recipes you craft yourself. Defeating an instance boss can drop powerful gear and weapons that unlock brand-new skills.
There is also a generous party rule: when an instance is finished, every player in the group receives at least one piece of gear. A July patch tightened that further, so boss drops in dungeons and Rifts now always come in at Rare quality or better, and everyone leaves with at least one weapon plus one gear piece. Players who die during the fight still get credit for the kill, and a spectator camera lets them watch the rest of it.
Ten instances shipped at Early Access launch, five full dungeons and five boss lairs, and the Nightling Update added two more in Ramburg for a current total of twelve. All of them are listed below, and each has its own page with the details known so far.
