The Abyss of New Atlaan is a full dungeon instance in the Valley of Eternal Autumn, tuned for level 16 and held by the fish-folk Nepsids. It is the deepest of the game's underwater instances, and the only one built around a sunken settlement. In-world it is said to hide the fabled sanctuary of Skover, a rumour that has cost the lives of many explorers; their wrecked ships now sit on the sea floor being picked over by the Nepsids.
The Dungeon
Like every instance in Farever, the Abyss runs for parties of one to four players and follows the standard loot rule, so every member of the group leaves with at least one piece of gear. See Dungeons and Instances for the full system.
What sets this run apart is that a good part of it is spent underwater, which puts your breath on a timer alongside your health bar. The developers have patched the run twice on exactly that point: an oxygen spot was added at the entrance of the Abyss, and a second one after Sponge Blob is defeated, so the fight and the swim out are no longer a single unbroken breath. For the swimming and diving systems this leans on, see Exploration and Traversal.
Enemies
The Nepsid garrison here mirrors the roles the faction fields elsewhere, rebuilt for the abyss, with elemental and crustacean company.
Enemy | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Wavemonger of New Atlaan | Caster | The Nepsids' ranged spellcaster, reworked for the abyss |
Oracle of New Atlaan | Healer | Keeps the rest of the group standing, so it is the usual first target |
Runner of New Atlaan | Skirmisher | Fast spear-armed attacker |
Breakwater of New Atlaan | Tank | The heavy front-line body of the Nepsid line |
Slick Nepsid Whale | Brute | The oversized Nepsid variant found throughout the valley |
Abyssal Crab | Wildlife | The abyss's own crab variant |
New Atlaan Sparkle | Elemental | An underwater Sparkle bound to the dungeon |
Sponge Blob
Sponge Blob waits at the end, a level 16 boss that the game classes as a Golem despite fighting for the Nepsids. It is one of the few bosses whose faction and creature type disagree, which is a fair warning that it does not behave like the fish-folk you fought on the way in. For how boss encounters are structured, see Bosses.
Notable Drops
Clearing the Abyss can reward the following standout gear, alongside crafting materials and lower-rarity loot. The two weapons and the glider are its signature rewards; the armour comes from the shared Nepsid pool.
Reward | Kind | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Book of Mi'Mizan | Weapon | A two-handed book, the run's headline caster reward |
Horns of the Wind | Weapon | A two-handed bow, also awarded by Robin Hoof in Ramburg |
Acidic Wingfish | Glider | An Epic glider awarded only here |
Fin Armor | Gear | Part of the shared Nepsid chest pool |
Jacket of the Last Pirate | Gear | Part of the shared Nepsid chest pool |
Charm of the Fisher King | Gear | Part of the shared Nepsid pool |
Tungstene Ore | Material | The high-tier ore used across the crafting professions |
For where these sit against the rest of the arsenal, see Weapons and the Arsenal, and for the wider loot economy see Gear, Items and Economy.
