One-Eyed Jackal

Overview

The One-Eyed Jackal is an NPC in Crimson Desert. The One-Eyed Jackals are an opportunistic bandit faction led by Ludvig. They once lived in Pailune alongside the Greymanes, but when the Black Bears drove the Greymanes out, the Jackals revealed their true intentions. As if they had been waiting, they swore loyalty to the Black Bears, were promised control of the capital of Pailune, and ruthlessly oppressed its people.

Faction Background

The Jackals were originally one of the bandit groups in Pailune, unified under one banner by Jian, the former leader of the region, as a defensive measure against the growing power of Gabriel Caliburn in neighboring Demeniss. After Jian's assassination during a surprise raid by the Black Bears (carried out with aid from the Jackals themselves), the faction fully aligned with Myurdin and the Black Bears to control Pailune through force.

Under the combined rule of the Black Bears and the Jackals, Pailune suffered greatly. Citizens were shoved into cages and sold as slaves, and the region's resources were plundered. The One-Eyed Jackals represent the enforcement arm of this occupation, patrolling key areas in the lower portions of the Pailune territory.

Ludvig's Leadership

The Jackals are led by Ludvig, an ambitious and envious leader whose loyalties shift with the wind. Ludvig's jealousy of the Greymanes and his desire for power drove the faction's betrayal. Under his command, the Jackals transformed from a loosely organized bandit group into a structured occupation force.

Players encounter Ludvig directly during Chapter 7: Homecoming in the Lonely Jackals quest, which culminates in a two-phase boss fight against Ludvig and his transformed state, Awakened Ludvig. Later in the story, players also encounter One-Armed Ludvig, a further variant showing the consequences of his earlier defeats.

Appearance

One-Eyed Jackals are distinguishable from regular Jackal foot soldiers by their larger build and the eyepatch they wear. They carry heavier armor and more dangerous weapons than standard Jackals. The One-Eyed Jackal Captain variant stands even taller than ordinary One-Eyed Jackals and carries a distinctive helm and fur cloak.

Operation Challenge

There is an Operation Challenge tied to the One-Eyed Jackals: defeat 10 One-Eyed Jackals while wearing the Black Bear's Leather Helm. Completing this challenge rewards the player with an Abyss Artifact. The challenge is unlocked by picking up a Sealed Abyss Artifact found along the road northwest of River Breeze Hearth in Pailune.

Players should complete this challenge before liberating Pailune, as One-Eyed Jackals may despawn from the overworld after the liberation storyline concludes. Purchase the Black Bear's Leather Helm from the Tailor's shop in Pailune before advancing too far in the Chapter 7 storyline.

Location

One-Eyed Jackals roam the lower portions of the Pailune region in groups. They are accessible during Chapter 7 of the main storyline, when the Greymanes return to Pailune to liberate it from the joint occupation by the Jackals and Black Bears.
