The Odeck's Protector Plate Set is a five-piece plate armor collection in Crimson Desert distinguished by its striking samurai aesthetic. Named after the ancient general Odeck, the set is scattered across the world and tied to some of the game's most rewarding exploration puzzles. Each piece can be found individually through open-world exploration, or the entire set can be earned at once by defeating the Forgotten General, one of the hardest boss encounters in the game. All five pieces can be upgraded at a Blacksmith and remain competitive well into endgame content.
The set consists of five armor pieces: the Odeck's Protector Plate Helm, Odeck's Protector Plate Armor, Odeck's Protector Plate Gloves, Odeck's Protector Plate Boots, and the Odeck's Protector Plate Cloak. Like all armor in Crimson Desert, the set does not provide a set bonus when all pieces are equipped together. However, the individual stats on each piece are strong enough that wearing the full set offers an excellent balance of defense, attack power, and mobility.
There are two ways to obtain the set. The "easy way" involves tracking down each piece individually through exploration and environmental puzzles scattered across multiple regions. The "hard way" involves completing a long chain of faction quests in the Pailune region, culminating in a brutal boss fight inside the General's Tomb. Defeating that boss awards the complete set along with the Awakened Spirit halberd.
The table below summarizes all five pieces in the Odeck's Protector Plate Set, including their base stats and general locations.
Piece | Slot | ATK | DEF | Notable Effects | Location |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Head | - | 10 | Defense +3 | Hexe Sanctuary (north of Demeniss) | |
Body | - | 13 | Ice Resistance Lv 1, Damage Reduction 1.0, Defense +3 | Waywood Woods, Four Pits (Pailune) | |
Hands | 18 | 3 | Health +0.2/sec, Climb Speed +2.0% | Perwin Quarry (Witchwoods) | |
Feet | 17 | 5 | Damage Reduction 1.0, Move Speed Lv 1 | ||
Back | - | 12 | Minor resistances | Black Bear Hideout (Silverwolf Mountain) |
The most direct way to earn every piece of the Odeck's Protector Plate Set at once is to complete the Odeck Tribe faction quest line in the Pailune region. This method requires significant story progress and a substantial time investment, but it rewards the full armor set plus the powerful Awakened Spirit halberd in a single encounter.
You must be past Chapter 8 in the main story to unlock the Pailune faction missions. The Pailune region becomes accessible during Chapter 7, but the faction quest chain that leads to the Odeck Tribe does not open until after Chapter 8.
Reaching the Odeck Tribe requires working through a sequence of faction unlocks. Each faction becomes available only after completing the previous one in the chain.
Pailune Militia: Complete 15 Pailune Militia quests. These are introductory quests that familiarize you with the region's politics and conflicts.
Skoghorn Tribe: Completing the Pailune Militia quests unlocks the Skoghorn Tribe faction. Work through their quest line to gain their trust.
Longleaf Tribe: Completing the Skoghorn Tribe quests opens the Longleaf faction quests. These often involve defending territory and clearing hostile camps.
Odeck Tribe: After finishing the Longleaf quests and clearing a fort (such as the Beast Hunters Camp), the Odeck Tribe faction finally becomes available.
The entire chain is lengthy but rewarding. Each faction offers useful gear, consumables, and lore as you progress toward the final confrontation.
Once you unlock the Odeck Tribe, you will receive the "Slumbering Soul" quest, which begins the Executioner of Justice quest line. This series of quests involves clearing corrupted areas and fighting through enemies as you trace the path to the General's Tomb. The tomb is located at the very edge of the map in a snowy mountainous area of northwestern Pailune.
Inside the General's Tomb, you will face the Forgotten General (also known as Odeck). This is classified as an Overwhelming Being, making it one of only three bosses in the game that triggers an explicit difficulty warning. The Forgotten General is widely considered one of the hardest fights in Crimson Desert.
Key mechanics and tips:
Extreme damage output: The Forgotten General can kill you in roughly three hits regardless of your defense level. Do not prioritize pure defense stats for this fight.
Prioritize stun: Fire-imbued attacks like Elemental Turning Slash and Volcanic Eruption deal maximum stun damage. Keeping the boss stunned is essential to managing its massive health pool.
Recommended weapon: The Vow of the Dead King (found in Frostveiled Castle Ruins) is ideal thanks to its high Attack and Critical Rate Lv 4 when upgraded.
Ranged cheese strategy: Equip Infinite Arrows III and Infinite Arrows II Abyss Gears for sustained ranged damage. Combine with Explosive Arrows (available from the Back Alley Shop in Demeniss) for a ranged build that trivializes the encounter. Use Evasive Shot (double Circle while aiming) to sidestep attacks while maintaining distance.
Cold environment: The tomb is in a freezing area. Equip armor with Ice Resistance (such as Frostcursed Armor) to avoid taking passive cold damage during the fight.
Stock up on supplies: Bring plenty of Hearty Meals for HP and Spirit recovery, along with Palmar Pills that prevent death. You will likely need multiple attempts before mastering the boss's attack patterns.
Abyss Gear priority: Critical Rate, Stamina Regen, and Focus Regen Abyss Gears are far more valuable than Defense-focused gears for this encounter.
Defeating the Forgotten General awards the complete Odeck's Protector Plate Set (all five pieces) in a single drop. You also receive the Awakened Spirit, a unique halberd that was once wielded by the general herself. The weapon's description reads: "A halberd designed to knock foes down with its sharp spearhead and finish them off with its crescent blade, carrying the general's resolve to remain behind, even as a spirit, to protect Odeck."
The Awakened Spirit comes pre-loaded with the "Judgment of the Soul" Abyss Gear, making it immediately powerful without further investment. It is one of the strongest halberds available and pairs thematically with the full armor set.
Every piece of the Odeck's Protector Plate Set can be found individually through exploration, without ever fighting the Forgotten General. Each piece is hidden behind environmental puzzles that typically require the Focused Force Palm ability (unlocked during Chapter 4) or specific traversal techniques. Below is a detailed walkthrough for each piece.
Location: Perwin Quarry, Witchwoods (south of Hernand)
Prerequisite: Chapter 4 (Focused Force Palm ability)
The gloves are located in a mine near the starting region of Hernand. Travel to the Perwin Quarry in the Witchwoods area south of Hernand and look for a sealed wall with a visible glowing orb. Enter Focus Mode (L3+R3 on controller), aim at the glowing orb with R3, and activate Focused Force Palm to shatter the wall. Wait a moment for any gas to dissipate before entering. The treasure chest containing the gloves is inside.
Stats: ATK 18, DEF 3. Provides Health +0.2/sec and Climb Speed Multiplier +2.0%, making the gloves useful for both combat and traversal.
Location: Sanctum of Temperance
Prerequisite: Blinding Light or fire-imbued attacks
The boots are hidden inside the Sanctum of Temperance, located close to your camp. You do not need to clear the entire sanctum to reach them. Instead, enter through the side entrance on the lower cliff pathway. Once inside, turn right and crawl through a narrow crevice. You will encounter suspicious vines blocking the way. Burn them away using Blinding Light (hold L1 after pressing L1+R1) or any fire-imbued attack. The treasure chest with the boots is just past the vines.
Stats: ATK 17, DEF 5. Provides Damage Reduction 1.0 and Move Speed Lv 1. These boots offer the highest DEF value among all footwear in the game, making them an excellent early pickup.
Location: Black Bear Hideout, Silverwolf Mountain (near Frostwind Cave)
Prerequisite: None (combat readiness recommended)
The cloak is found inside a hidden Black Bear base in the Pailune region. Look for a crevice or suspiciously protruding section of wall near a bridge and watchtower. There is a ladder leading underground into the Black Bear hideout. Expect to fight through multiple Black Bear enemies as you descend into a large open chamber.
From the main chamber stairs, head left and look for a hole in the floor with a ladder leading further down. Drop to the lower level. The cloak is not inside a chest. It is a loose piece of gear sitting on the floor, which makes it very easy to miss. Search the ground level carefully. Despite being a world drop rather than a chest reward, this cloak can be upgraded at any Blacksmith just like the other pieces.
Stats: DEF 12. The cloak is a purely defensive piece that adds solid protection to the back slot.
Location: Four Pits, Waywood Woods (Pailune)
Prerequisite: Chapter 8 (Pailune region access + Focused Force Palm)
The body armor is located in the Waywood Woods forest area at a location known as the Four Pits. Look for visible cracks and fissures in the ground between two large trees. There is a pit in the floor with a glowing orb at the bottom. You must be past Chapter 8 for this area to become active. Use Focused Force Palm while looking straight down at the orb to open the way.
Inside, you may encounter abyss cells that can be grappled and stored for crafting Cuckoo items. Navigate through the underground area to find the treasure chest containing the plate armor.
Stats: DEF 13. Provides Ice Resistance Lv 1, Damage Reduction 1.0, and Defense +3. This is the highest-defense body armor piece in the set and is well suited for cold environments like Pailune.
Location: Hexe Sanctuary (north of Demeniss)
Prerequisite: Chapter 9 (partial progress required)
The helm has the most restrictive requirements of any piece in the set. You must be past a specific point in Chapter 9, having completed the Cooling section, the first two story parts, the Veiled Witch section, and the Fragments of Darkness sanctum. You do not need to defeat the Chapter 9 story boss.
Travel to the Hexe Sanctuary north of Demeniss. Locate the cliff wall with a glowing metal barrier hiding a cave entrance. Three abyss cells guard the entrance and must be cleared before you can proceed. Wait for each cell to glow, punch it with Focused Force Palm, and seal it away. After clearing all three cells, break through one more wall to reach the treasure chest with the helm inside.
Stats: DEF 10. Provides Defense +3. A straightforward defensive helm that rounds out the set's protection.
Since each piece has different story and ability prerequisites, the following order is recommended for collecting the set naturally as you progress through the game.
Plate Boots (Sanctum of Temperance): Available early with no chapter restriction. The high DEF and Move Speed bonus make it an excellent first pickup.
Plate Gloves (Perwin Quarry): Available after Chapter 4 once you unlock Focused Force Palm. The attack power and climb speed are immediately useful.
Plate Cloak (Black Bear Hideout): No chapter prerequisite, but the Black Bear enemies inside are dangerous. Tackle this once your gear and combat skills are solid.
Plate Armor (Waywood Woods): Requires Chapter 8 progress. The body armor slot provides the biggest defensive upgrade in the set.
Plate Helm (Hexe Sanctuary): Requires partial Chapter 9 progress. Save this for last as it has the most restrictive story requirements.
While not part of the Odeck's Protector set, the Hwando katana pairs perfectly with the samurai aesthetic of the armor. This unique two-handed sword is located at Lion Crest Manor in the Hernand region and is widely regarded as one of the best early-game weapons available.
How to obtain: If you have already completed the Lion Crest Manor quest line, simply walk into the side building to find the chest. If the quest line is not complete, you can sneak in by approaching from the edge of the property. Look for a wooden window (not glass) on the side building. Climb the wall in Assassin's Creed fashion, stand near the window, hold Square to open it, and hold X to hop inside. Turn right inside, use a key on the locked door, and open the glowing treasure chest to claim the Hwando.
Stats: ATK 19. The Hwando comes pre-loaded with three Abyss Gear slots, making it immediately powerful. Combined with the samurai styling of the Odeck's Protector set, the full ensemble makes for one of the most visually striking loadouts in the game.
Every piece of the Odeck's Protector Plate Set can be upgraded at a Blacksmith, including the cloak (which is picked up as a loose item rather than from a chest). Upgrading increases the base ATK and DEF values of each piece and can unlock additional Abyss Gear slots.
Because the set offers strong base stats across all five slots, investing upgrade materials into these pieces is a solid long-term strategy. Players who collect the full set early and upgrade progressively will find that the Odeck's Protector armor remains viable through endgame content, particularly when combined with well-chosen Abyss Gears that complement the set's defensive strengths.
Upgrade materials can be gathered from gathering nodes, enemy drops, and vendors throughout the world. Higher refinement levels require rarer materials typically found in late-game zones like Pailune and the areas surrounding Demeniss.
You do not need to choose between the "hard way" and the "easy way." Pieces collected individually still count toward your inventory even if you later defeat the Forgotten General. Duplicate pieces can be sold or dismantled.
The Plate Boots are arguably the most valuable individual piece due to their DEF 5 rating (highest among all footwear) and Move Speed bonus. Prioritize picking these up even if you are not collecting the full set.
Focused Force Palm is required for the Gloves, Armor, and Helm. If you have not yet unlocked this ability, progress through Chapter 4 first.
The Plate Cloak in the Black Bear Hideout is on the floor, not in a chest. Turn up your brightness or use Focus Mode to spot the item glow. Many players walk right past it.
For the Forgotten General boss fight, a ranged Infinite Arrows build with Explosive Arrows is the most reliable strategy. Stock up on Explosive Arrows from the Back Alley Shop in Demeniss before heading to the General's Tomb.
The Awakened Spirit halberd earned from the boss fight is one of the strongest weapons of its type. If you enjoy halberds, the faction quest chain is absolutely worth the time investment.
All five armor pieces and the Hwando Katana come with pre-loaded Abyss Gears. Check each item's gear slots after obtaining them, as some combinations may overlap with gears you already have equipped.
