Judgment of the Soul is a Dodge attack Abyss Gear that summons a charging soul entity wielding a spear after a successful evasion. The soul lances forward in a straight line and hits extremely hard when its charge lines up with the enemy. The community ranking puts the gear into A tier alongside Ancient Wrath, with a slight tilt toward higher damage and slightly worse usability than the tracking-fireball alternative.
Where Ancient Wrath leans on tracking, Judgment of the Soul leans on burst. A clean alignment of the charging soul against a stationary or large target produces one of the largest single-proc damage numbers in the dodge-gear group. The trade-off is that the soul does not track, so positioning matters: a target that strafes after you dodge can step out of the spear lane before the charge lands.
Judgment of the Soul triggers off any successful Dodge. The dodge does not need to be a perfect Parrying frame, just an evasion that the game registers. The soul spawns immediately after the dodge animation and charges in the direction the player is facing, so the lane the spear takes is set by where the camera is pointing rather than the direction of the dodge roll itself.
Damage is the standout stat, scoring 9 out of 10 in the community video. When the spear lands flush on a large enemy or a stationary boss phase, the damage rivals the strongest S tier dodge proc, Spirit's Judgment. The reason the gear caps at A tier rather than S is the situational alignment requirement: against fast, lateral-moving targets the spear can clip wide. Boss fights with predictable patterns let Judgment of the Soul show its ceiling, while chaotic group encounters favor the more reliable Ancient Wrath.
A community ranking video titled All Abyss Gears Tier List (Best to Worst Ranked) scores every Abyss Gear out of 30 across three categories: damage, usability, and utility. Each category is worth 10 points, and the totals are bucketed so that 25 to 30 is S tier, 20 to 24 is A tier, 15 to 19 is B tier, 10 to 14 is C tier, 5 to 9 is D tier, and anything below that lands in F tier. Treat the numbers below as one experienced player's testing rather than a hard rulebook, but the overall ranking lines up with what most Best Abyss Gears Guide tier lists are converging on.
Overall Score: 24/30
Damage: 9/10
Usability: 7/10
Utility: 8/10
Community Tier: A Tier
A tier covers gears that perform well in almost every build. They are not quite the standout picks of the whole list, but they pull their weight and rarely feel like dead slots.
Hits hard when aligned, but the alignment is on you. Boss fights with predictable openings reward this gear; messy crowd fights reward Ancient Wrath instead. Both are A tier picks inside the dodge-gear group.
Proc Reminder: Triggers off any successful dodge. The summoned soul charges in the camera-facing direction, so position the camera so the spear's lane covers the target.
Pair Judgment of the Soul with builds that already plant themselves on top of the boss and dodge into the boss rather than away from it. Combine it with Parting Gift on the boots slot for a layered dodge payoff: the boot drops bombs as you evade and the soul charges in for the burst hit.
Judgment of the Soul is a boss-fight specialist among dodge gears. Single-target encounters with telegraphed openings give the gear room to land the full spear charge. Crowd farming runs are better served by Ancient Wrath because the tracking fireballs cover for unpredictable enemy positioning. If you have both unlocked, swap between them based on the encounter type rather than committing to one all the time.
