Overview

Garlic is an all-season crop in Starsand Island, described in-game as "a great seasoning to remove fishiness and enhance flavor; regular consumption can boost immunity." Unlike most crops that are restricted to certain seasons, Garlic can be planted and harvested during Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, making it one of the most reliable income sources on the island. It matures in 1 day and 12 hours and yields 4 Garlic per harvest.

Garlic Seeds unlock at the Apprentice Farmer tier of the Farming profession and are purchased from the Happiness Seed Shop for 60 Coins. Garlic is one of the few Apprentice-tier crops that can be grown in both standard farmland and in a Planting Box. The Planting Box is a portable growing container that lets you cultivate crops anywhere on the island, including inside your house. This makes Garlic especially convenient because you can place Planting Boxes near your kitchen or crafting stations to keep ingredients close at hand.

Garlic is a versatile ingredient used in four cooking recipes and can be processed into Vegetable Juice at the Separator or turned into Ripening Fertilizer II at the Fertilizer Box II. Several island residents love receiving Garlic as a gift, and its year-round availability means you always have a steady supply for both cooking and friendship building.

How to Obtain Seeds

Garlic Seeds are sold by Graminova at the Happiness Seed Shop for 60 Coins per seed bag. The shop is located in Starsand Town and operates daily. You must reach the Apprentice Farmer tier before Garlic Seeds appear in the shop inventory.

To unlock Apprentice Farmer, complete the initial Farming certification with Graminova. This is one of the earliest profession milestones in the game, so Garlic Seeds become available very quickly after you begin farming. Once unlocked, Garlic Seeds (along with other Apprentice-tier seeds like Water Spinach, Cabbage, and Cucumber) remain permanently available for purchase.

Seeds are not locked by season at the point of purchase. You can buy Garlic Seeds during any season and plant them immediately since Garlic grows year-round. There is no need to stockpile or wait for a specific planting window, which is one of the biggest advantages of this crop.

You can also occasionally find Garlic Seeds through general exploration by chopping trees and shrubs, foraging weeds, and opening Treasure Chests scattered across the island. The Grinder at the Happiness Seed Shop can convert harvested Garlic back into Garlic Seeds if you want to recycle part of your crop into planting material.

Growing Garlic

Garlic can be grown in both standard farmland and in a Planting Box to grow. Unlike crops planted on standard farmland or Trellises, you place a Planting Box on the ground and then plant the seed into it. Planting Boxes are portable containers that can be positioned virtually anywhere, including indoors. This means you can set up a Garlic farm inside your house, next to your kitchen, or in any other convenient location.

The Planting Box blueprint is unlocked during the Apprentice Farmer tier, which is the same tier that grants access to Garlic Seeds. You can craft Planting Boxes at the Workbench using basic materials. Each Planting Box holds one crop at a time, so you will need multiple boxes for a larger Garlic operation.

After planting, Garlic takes 1 day and 12 hours to reach maturity. Water the crop every day for it to grow on schedule. If you skip a day of watering, growth will stall until the next time you water it. Once the plant is ready, harvest it to collect 4 Garlic.

Garlic is a single-harvest crop. After you pick the Garlic, the Planting Box becomes empty and you need to plant a new seed to start another cycle. There is no regrowth phase. This means your total return from one seed is always 4 Garlic, and you will need to buy or obtain new seeds for each subsequent planting.

Planting Box Mechanics

The Planting Box is a permanent farming structure that does not break or disappear after crops are harvested. You can reuse the same Planting Box for unlimited planting cycles. Each box occupies a single tile of space. Because Planting Boxes can be placed indoors, Garlic is one of the few crops you can grow without needing outdoor farm space.

You can place sprinklers near Planting Boxes to automate daily watering. This is recommended if you are running a large number of boxes, since manually watering each one every day can consume a significant portion of your morning stamina.

The only other crop that can be grown in both standard farmland and in a Planting Box is Reishi Mushroom. All other crops use standard farmland, Trellises, or Paddy Fields.

All-Season Advantage

Garlic grows in all four seasons, which is its biggest selling point. Most crops in Starsand Island are restricted to one or two seasons, meaning you have idle farmland during the off-season. Garlic never goes dormant. You can plant it on the last day of Winter and it will grow right through the season transition into Spring without any issues.

This all-season availability makes Garlic an excellent fallback crop. If you are between seasonal plantings or have run out of seeds for your main seasonal crop, you can always plant Garlic to keep your Planting Boxes productive. Other all-season crops include Wheat, Potato, Mountain Rice, Cucumber, Peanut, Soybean, Sugarcane, Rice, Corn, and Pasture Grass.

Sell Price and Profit

Each Garlic sells for 27 Coins. Since one seed (60 Coins) produces 4 Garlic per harvest, a single planting yields 108 Coins in revenue, for a net profit of 48 Coins per seed. Over the 1.5-day growth cycle, that works out to 32 Coins of profit per day per Planting Box.

Garlic is not the highest-earning crop per day, but its year-round availability means you can generate consistent income during every season. Crops like Water Spinach (Summer only) or Strawberry (Spring only) may earn more per harvest, but they leave your farm idle for much of the year. Garlic fills that gap.

For higher returns, consider selling your harvest to the Merchant Ship when it docks at Starsand Town. The Merchant Ship pays roughly double the standard vendor price for select goods, which could push Garlic revenue significantly higher per unit. Timing your harvests to coincide with the ship's visits maximizes your earnings.

Recipes Using Garlic

Garlic is used as a cooking ingredient in four recipes. The table below lists each recipe, its required ingredients, the cooking station, cooking time, stamina recovery, and sell price.

Laba Garlic is the simplest recipe, requiring only 1 Garlic and 1 Vinegar with no additional processed ingredients. It sells for 68 Coins and cooks in just 32 seconds, making it a quick way to add value to your Garlic harvest. The recipe is obtained from the Spring Festival event.

Fortune Clam Broth offers the highest sell price at 451 Coins and restores 146 stamina, but it can be grown in both standard farmland and in a Clam, 2 Winter Melon, and Fine Salt in addition to 2 Garlic. This recipe is also unlocked through the Spring Festival event.

Fire-Kissed Garlic and Golden Garlic Crisps are both purchased from the Aureleaf Kitchen in town. Fire-Kissed Garlic uses 2 Garlic and 4 Cooking Oil, selling for 262 Coins. Golden Garlic Crisps combines 2 Garlic with 2 Flour and Fine Salt for 146 Coins. Both recipes are cooked in the Oven.

Processing Options

Beyond cooking, Garlic can be processed at two different stations to produce useful materials.

Processing Garlic at the Separator yields Vegetable Juice, one of the most commonly required cooking ingredients in the game. Any vegetable works for making Vegetable Juice, so Garlic is interchangeable with Cabbage, Cucumber, Potato, Tomato, or Leek for this purpose. If you have a surplus of Garlic beyond what you need for cooking and gifting, running it through the Separator is a practical way to build up your Vegetable Juice stockpile.

Garlic can also be combined with Moonflower Pollen and Poop at the Fertilizer Box II to produce Ripening Fertilizer II. This fertilizer instantly advances a growing crop's progress, letting you speed up harvest times on valuable seasonal crops. It is a niche use, but worth knowing if you have excess Garlic and need to accelerate a late-season planting.

Gifting Preferences

Garlic is a useful gift item for building friendships with island residents and animals. Giving Garlic to a character who loves it provides a significant boost to your friendship level. Below are the known preferences.

Since Graminova loves Garlic and she is the Farming profession mentor, gifting her Garlic is a convenient way to raise friendship while you are already visiting the Happiness Seed Shop to buy seeds. Marston and Sagewood are also easy to find in town, making them good gifting targets as you go about your daily routine. Keep a few Garlic in your inventory at all times so you can hand them out whenever you cross paths with a character who loves them.

Everlasting Garlic Seeds

Like all crops in Starsand Island, Garlic has an Everlasting variant. Everlasting Garlic Seeds produce a plant that does not become spent after harvest. Instead, the crop continues regrowing and producing Garlic indefinitely, eliminating the need to buy new seeds and replant after every cycle.

There are several ways to obtain Everlasting Garlic Seeds:

• Islandpedia Rewards: Completing certain entries in the Plants section of the Islandpedia may reward you with Everlasting Seeds for specific crops, including Garlic.

• Eternal Blessings Skill: The Senior Farmer tier unlocks the Eternal Blessings skill, which gives a chance of receiving an Everlasting Seed when harvesting any regular crop. The higher your farming proficiency, the better the odds.

• Random Harvest Drops: Occasionally, harvesting a normal Garlic plant will yield an Everlasting Garlic Seed alongside the regular Garlic.

Everlasting Seeds are safe to relocate. If you remove an Everlasting crop from a Planting Box, the seed returns to your inventory so you can replant it elsewhere without losing your investment. Over time, building up a collection of Everlasting Garlic Seeds lets you maintain a permanent Garlic operation that produces 4 Garlic every 1.5 days without any ongoing seed costs.

Tips

• Use Garlic as your year-round baseline: While seasonal crops like Strawberry or Blueberry may offer higher per-day profit, Garlic never stops growing. Keep a set of Planting Boxes filled with Garlic at all times and supplement them with seasonal crops when they are in season.

• Set up indoor Planting Boxes: Since Planting Boxes work indoors, place a row of them inside your house near your cooking stations. This gives you instant access to fresh Garlic whenever a recipe calls for it, without needing to walk to your outdoor farm.

• Use sprinklers on outdoor Planting Boxes: If you have a large outdoor Garlic field, set up sprinklers to automate watering. This frees up your morning stamina for mining, fishing, or other activities.

• Gift Garlic to Graminova: She loves it, and you are already visiting her shop for seeds. Raising her friendship level unlocks additional rewards and dialogue.

• Cook Laba Garlic for easy profit: Combining 1 Garlic with 1 Vinegar (obtainable by processing Potato at the Brewing Barrel) makes Laba Garlic, which sells for 68 Coins. Compared to selling the raw Garlic at 27 Coins, that is a 41-Coin improvement per unit for minimal effort.

• Process surplus into Vegetable Juice: If you have more Garlic than you can sell or cook, run it through the Separator to make Vegetable Juice. It is one of the most frequently required cooking ingredients and having a stockpile saves time later.

• Work toward Everlasting Seeds: Once you reach Senior Farmer and unlock the Eternal Blessings skill, every Garlic harvest has a chance of dropping an Everlasting Seed. Since Garlic grows fast and year-round, you get more harvest events per season than most crops, increasing your chances of receiving Everlasting Seeds over time.
