Reliable Blunderbuss is a Rare / Epic blunderbuss-class ranged weapon in Windrose. A practical blunderbuss for firing in cramped crew quarters. Its only purpose is to throw a hail of shot in the enemy's general direction.
Blunderbusses are two-handed close-range scatter firearms that scale with Agility. They fire a dense cone of shot and are the shotgun-equivalent of the firearm family. Blunderbusses reward committed aggressive play: at point-blank range a volley can cripple elite enemies, at mid-to-long range the spread renders them ineffective. Like all firearms, they consume Gunpowder and require Master's Tools in the upgrade bands.
Field | Value |
|---|---|
Weapon Class | |
Rarity | Rare / Epic |
Damage | 180 Pierce |
Scaling | Agility (C at Rare, B at Epic) |
ATK (Item Level 15) | 380 |
ATK (Level 1 crafted) | 100 |
Stack Size | 1 |
Flavor | Reloading fast matters more than aiming true. |
Rare and Epic variants share a base effect. Ascending the Rare to Epic at the Weaponsmith Workshop preserves the Rare effect and stacks an additional bonus on top.
Tier | Effect |
|---|---|
Rare | At close range, shots have a small chance to knock enemies down. |
Epic (adds) | Shots consume less gunpowder. |
Craft at the Weaponsmith Workshop (Level 1). Base recipe: Wood x10, Copper Ingot x7.
Upgrading raises the item level (and therefore ATK) in bands, each with its own material cost. Leveling from 1 to 15 is the standard path for every firearm before ascension. Master's Tools becomes a required ingredient from Level 7 onward.
Item Level | Station | Materials |
|---|---|---|
Lvl 2-5 | Weaponsmith Workshop Lvl 1 | Wood x10, Copper Ingot x7 |
Lvl 6 | Weaponsmith Workshop Lvl 2 | Hardwood x5, Foothills Iron Ingot x4, Master's Tools x3 |
Lvl 7-10 | Weaponsmith Workshop Lvl 2 | Hardwood x10, Foothills Iron Ingot x7, Master's Tools x3 |
Lvl 11 | Weaponsmith Workshop Lvl 3 | Hardwood x4, Mire Metal Ingot x4, Master's Tools x3 |
Lvl 12-15 | Weaponsmith Workshop Lvl 3 | Hardwood x7, Mire Metal Ingot x7, Master's Tools x3 |
Ascending the Rare variant at the Weaponsmith Workshop converts it into the Epic variant and unlocks the Epic bonus line. Ingredients: Reliable Blunderbuss x1, Tumbaga Ingot x9. The ascension consumes the Rare weapon. See Tumbaga Ingot for sourcing notes and Upgrade System for the full ascension mechanic.

This weapon rolls from the shared Pirate Chest Loot Pool at a 20% per-chest chance across 13 chest spawns (Blackbeard Crew, Buccaneers', Decrepit, Old Skeleton, Smugglers', and Thomas Richards' chests). See that article for the full chest list and locations.
The top-end blunderbuss by raw damage (180 Pierce, Agility B). Close-range knockdown chance opens up follow-up melee windows, and reduced gunpowder cost at Epic extends the ammunition loop significantly. The default boarding-crew scatter weapon; pair with a saber or two-handed sword for a full Agility kit.
Close the distance before firing. Blunderbuss damage craters past mid-range so every shot should be at point-blank or near. Boarding actions, interior fights on ships, and tight jungle-cave corridors favor the weapon most. Pair with a melee two-hander (Two-Handed Sword, Dueling Greatsword) for a full Agility kit; the Agility stat investment covers both weapons.
Agility-scaling weapons pull from the Agility and Fencer branches of the Talent System. Relevant picks include talents that boost Pierce damage, Critical Hit Chance for light attacks, and Retaliation duration. Agility firearms also benefit from melee-speed talents since the typical blunderbuss or Infantry Musket pairing runs with a saber or greatsword main-hand.
See the Talent System article for the current list of unlockable talents and their exact bonus values. Every firearm consumes Gunpowder, so stockpiling Sulfur and Charcoal for the Workbench conversion remains a background chore for any ranged build.
Reliable Blunderbuss sits alongside 2 other blunderbusses on the current live index. Consider the alternatives:
Blunderbuss: Uncommon, 150 Pierce, Agility (D). no special effect
Dragon's Breath: Rare / Epic, 160 Pierce, Agility (C). Dealing Damage has 60% chance of triggering fire explosion around the target.

The Reliable Blunderbuss's knockdown chance at close range is the reason it remains relevant even once higher-damage blunderbusses are available. During Boarding actions, a knockdown at the edge of a ship deck can fling the struck enemy off the side of the vessel and into the water. A pirate who goes overboard is removed from the fight entirely, which counts just the same as a kill for the purpose of clearing the deck.
Positioning the knockdown shot. The knockdown comes from the raw impact of the close-range volley rather than a specific pellet landing, so the aim rule is the standard blunderbuss center-mass aim rather than a headshot. Close in on the target until the pellet spread is tight enough to hit in one cone, then fire directly into the chest. The knockdown chance is probabilistic rather than guaranteed, so expect some shots to stagger without flinging, especially against larger enemies.
Pair with a two-handed sword. Enemies that go down without going overboard spend a brief window on the deck unable to attack. A Greatswords follow-up during that window lands clean hits against a target that cannot defend. Since both the Reliable Blunderbuss and the greatsword class scale with Agility, the same stat line powers both weapons in the loadout.
