Overview
Strange Strings are a rare crafting item in Pokemon Pokopia. They are dropped at low rates from rocks broken with Rock Smash and are the key ingredient in instrument-style crafting recipes used by music-themed Pokemon and habitats.
Where to Find Strange Strings
Source | Notes |
|---|---|
Rock Smash drops | Small chance to drop from rocks broken via the Rock Smash move. Rocks in caves and on rocky terrain have the highest drop rates. |
Gimmighoul trades | Tradeable with Gimmighoul and Gholdengo through their treasure-collecting interactions. |
Gholdengo exchanges | Gholdengo offers Strange Strings as part of its higher-tier trade pool once enough offerings are made. |

Uses
Strange Strings are an ingredient in stringed-instrument decorations and certain crafted items themed around music and sound. The most common recipe is the Guitar decoration; a related recipe produces the Bass Guits, a stylized bass-guitar prop used in DJ-themed habitats and stage builds. Both items are tied to the DJ specialty workflow.
Crafting Tips
Carry a Pokemon with the Rock Smash move when exploring caves and rocky areas; consistent breaking is the most reliable Strange Strings source.
Cultivate a Gimmighoul trade route by giving it Coins; once it transforms into Gholdengo, the trade pool expands to include more Strange Strings.
Reserve Strange Strings for music-themed builds. Their drop rate is low enough that wasting them on unrelated crafts will slow your progression on stage and DJ habitats.
Pair stringed-instrument decorations with a DJ specialty Pokemon to host concerts that increase nearby Pokemon Comfort Levels.
