Expanded Burn Specialty to template structure with Pokemon list, smelting recipes, unlock walkthrough, comparison, and tips
Burn is a Pokemon Specialty in Pokemon Pokopia. Pokemon with the Burn specialty can set fire to flammable objects, power smelting furnaces used to process ores into ingots, and light campfires and torches around your island. Burn is essential for processing iron, copper, and Pokemetal into their refined forms, making it one of the cornerstone specialties for any building-focused playthrough.
Powers smelting furnaces to convert raw ore into refined ingots
Lights campfires, ovens, and torches for cooking and warmth
Lights flammable terrain (dry grass, brush piles) on demand
Powers the Charizard-fueled Hot Plate cooking station
Provides Burn-themed Comfort Level boosts for nearby Fire-type Pokemon habitats

The Burn specialty is unlocked naturally early in the main story when you befriend your first Burn-capable Pokemon. The recommended first-encounter route is:
Reach Withered Wasteland after completing the initial Palette Town tutorial sequence.
Use the dowsing machine or visit the Charmander habitat (#005) to befriend Charmander.
With one Burn Pokemon befriended, the smelting recipes unlock at Tinkmaster's crafting menu.
Burn specialty Pokemon power the following refinement processes at smelting furnaces:
Input | Output | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Used for tool upgrades and building kits | ||
Required for wiring and electrical structures | ||
End-game material for legendary tools | ||
Rarify specialty Pokemon (Porygon2) can upgrade smelted Pokemetal further |
Burn pairs naturally with the Eat specialty (Snorlax, Munchlax) at cooking stations, and with the Generate specialty (Magnemite, Magneton) for industrial-grade setups that produce ingots and electricity in parallel. See also the Best Pokemon for Each Specialty overview for cross-specialty comparison.
Befriend at least one Burn Pokemon early in the game (Charmander or Growlithe is the fastest path) to unlock smelting recipes.
Place the Burn Pokemon's habitat directly next to your smelting furnace; idle Burn Pokemon will automatically power the furnace during their daily routines.
Stockpile fuel materials and ores before sleeping; the Burn Pokemon will continue processing through the night cycle.
For high-throughput smelting, set up multiple Burn habitats around a furnace cluster. Each Burn Pokemon contributes to total processing speed.
Combine Burn with Litter-specialty Pokemon (Grimer, Muk) to recover Pokemetal Fragments from the discarded slag piles around smelting stations.
