Sleep and Beds

Comprehensive expansion with sleep mechanics, bed details, dream system, and tips
inZOI has eight needs: Hunger, Hygiene, Bladder, Sleep, Energy, Fun, Social, and Recognition. Sleep and Energy are separate needs. Sleep represents the physical requirement for rest. Energy represents mental stamina, which recovers through preferred activities and relaxation rather than just sleeping.
Sleep is considered a high-priority need. When autonomy is on, Zois prioritize sleeping over most other activities when the Sleep bar gets low. If the Sleep need drops to zero, the Zoi risks death from exhaustion (see deaths). A warning message appears before death, giving you a short window to get the Zoi to a bed or couch.
When a Zoi goes to bed between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, game time automatically speeds up to 30x. This means nighttime sleep passes quickly. If a Zoi sleeps outside those hours (an afternoon nap, for example), time passes at normal speed, which makes the nap feel much longer in real time. This encourages keeping a regular sleep schedule aligned with the in-game day/night cycle.
KRAFTON adjusted sleep duration in a post-launch patch. The original implementation had "realistic" sleep patterns where Zois slept in when tired and regularly overslept. Players found this created too much downtime, so sleep was shortened to keep gameplay moving.
Beds in inZOI are built from customizable components in Build Mode:
Frame — the base structure. Multiple styles available from minimalist platforms to ornate headboards.
Mattress — placed on the frame. Different comfort levels affect how quickly the Sleep need recovers.
Sheets — the visible bedding layer. Purely cosmetic with color and pattern customization.
Two sets of pillows — decorative and functional. Each set can be customized with different sizes, colors, and styles.
Each component can be changed independently, so you can mix a modern frame with classic sheets. Colors and patterns are adjusted through the Build Mode customization panel. Zois can also nap on sofas for partial Sleep recovery, though sofas restore sleep more slowly than beds.
Toddlers do not use regular beds. When a toddler's Sleep need gets low enough, a toddler rug or mattress spawns on the ground near the toddler, and they lay down on it. This happens automatically. Purchased toddler beds from the furniture catalog in Build Mode are decorative only in the current Early Access build and do not function as actual sleep spots. Toddlers ignore them and use the spawned ground mattress instead.
While sleeping, Zois can experience dreams and nightmares. A dream image appears in a thought bubble above their head during sleep. What the Zoi dreams about is influenced by:
Current mood and emotions at the time of falling asleep.
Recent events from the day (positive or negative).
Traits and personality.
Relationship status with other Zois.
A Zoi who had a good day with positive emotions is more likely to have pleasant dreams. A Zoi who experienced conflict, fire, financial stress, or low needs is more likely to have nightmares. Dreams and nightmares affect the Zoi's emotional state when they wake up.
Zois can sleepwalk, and when they do, the player loses control of them. The Zoi gets out of bed while still asleep and performs random actions around the house or neighborhood. Observed sleepwalking behaviors include:
Booking vacations on the smartphone.
Donating Meow to unknown causes.
Wandering around the house or outside.
Interacting with furniture and appliances.
How frequently a Zoi sleepwalks appears to be connected to their dream frequency and emotional state. There is no way to prevent sleepwalking in the current build. The Zoi eventually returns to bed and continues sleeping normally.
